Such a pretty spot not just to take pictures of the viaduct but as well of the stunning scenery the viaduct was smaller then what I was expecting but did not disappoint I went on boxing day and it was packed there is a parking fee and no public toilets I would highly recommend bringing suitable footwear due to the fact the path can get very muddy if going further up the track

Drove 3 hours from Glenshee to see the viaduct, the parking was closed, one side was having works the other not!! No reason given, we had to park 30 minute walk from the viaduct, walk with our 2 young children 10 and 12, along a 60mph road no foot path, risking our lives.
Unbelievable, probably the busiest time of year and the parking is closed. The view was good, the people in the parking horrid!

Very nice visitor centre and staff. The path to see the viaduct up high, is just at the left hand side of the visitor centre.
You can take a walk from the car park too, to be closer to the viaduct.
The Bonnie Prince Charlie tower was closed due to ice, but maybe salt could have been put down first thing ???
The visitor centre has a very well informed museum about Prince Charles and it’s free.
If in the area visit

Stopped here to see this famous viaduct, it is really neat to see. Bit of an easy hike to walk out to the actual viaduct but worth it if you are a Harry Potter fan or a fan of train viaducts! Easy to find, plenty of public parking when I was there but I can see it being much busier during high tourist season. Hundreds of visitors were there when I visited on an October Tuesday afternoon, plenty of tour buses too. Added bonus is you can also visit the Jacobite Memorial on Loch Shiel as it’s a quick walk from the visitor centre, much closer than the actual viaduct. The hike to the viaduct is fairly level on gravel paths with only the last 100 feet involving any climbing as you get closer to the actual viaduct. The path runs beside the stream so a nice walk and great views of the viaduct as you walk.

We waited for the first train 🚂 in the morning to pass through , it passed through at 10:50am , advice to come early an hour before as you need to park your car (if you’re driving ) and parking is limited .

A must for every Harry Potter fan.
Large parking lot, but doesn't want to know how crowded it is in season,
Beforehand it is best to check the times of the train so that Mans does not miss.
Good footwear and possibly rain jacket is recommended, as it can be quite muddy.
The trail from the station is a bit hidden (you have to go through between the lifts standing there. Otherwise very nice trail once you have found it. Again: good footwear is a must!

This is a very cool place to see the “Hogwarts Express”. You have to pay to park. There are 2 different viewpoints. You can hike up the mountain or view it from the field. There are times listed on when the steam train will pass. There’s also a small exhibit and statue

As an adult, I've never believed in magic, and the thought of those that do, makes me cringe! That said, the setting of Glenfinnan Viaduct is truly spectacular, and there does seem to be something magical about the trail leading to it, from the static sleeping carriage and restaurant car, at Glenfinnan station. Decades ago, I intended visiting it by motorcycle, but wasn't able to, because it unexpectedly failed its MOT, on account of a cut on the rear tyre! Long before it became immortalised by the Harry Potter films, as a train enthusiast, seeing The Jacobite passing over it, was a 'must do'!
Now, railway photography is often more pain than pleasure: weather conditions are usually suboptimal at the moment you press the button, and there's no second chance if you get it wrong. That said, when you do get that master shot, it all seems worthwhile. So, last year, at long last, I visited Glenfinnan Viaduct and was totally enthralled by both its setting, and the happy ambience amongst fellow travellers (many from far-away places, and all well behaved). Unfortunately, it was a blazingly hot day in June and the train was diesel assisted, with the steam engine at the front, nothing more than a mascot. What an anticlimax; I'd have to return early autumn to witness the true splendor!
With Labour pledged to introduce road pricing next April, I decided to pay it another visit before then, towards the end of the summer period, when weather conditions permitted, hence my visit on 22nd September, 2024. Off at 4 am, arriving to unexpectedly cloudy conditions, with no likelihood of the strong sunshine predicted (so it seemed!). Furthermore, I missed the morning Jacobite, because I hadn't allowed half an hour for walking along the trail. Oh well, there's the afternoon service to photograph; one for the record I guess; never again, ever!
Back at the car, an hour later, at about midday, sunshine started to appear. Yes, but we're almost at the autumn equinox, so no chance of any transformation, I thought. Wrong, wrong, wrong! By 1 pm, everywhere was sunny and the viaduct seemed almost perfectly floodlit by it. Yes, but when the train passes over it, there won't be much steam visible; it's too warm and they'll be taking it easy to reduce the risk of forest fire. Wrong again!
Eventually, amidst strong sunshine and very good visibility, it emerged onto the viaduct, with a few whisps of steam. Not too bad, but nothing spectacular. Oh well, could be a lot worse! Nothing, however, prepared me for what was to follow. The locomotive drew to a hault and waited a couple of minutes, this time with white steam pouring from its chimney, and then restarted. The gruff bark soon turned into a roar, with copious amounts of pure, white, steam. The driver handled it brilliantly: there was no wheel slipping at all. Yes, the spectacle was truly captivating and as it got closer, the noise imparted gave the impression of a living monster; not at all like a normal train. Together with echoing, the atmosphere was surreal; beyond anything one might have expected! Yes, I went away awestruck and feeling that I had I paid double, it would still have been worthwhile.
On a more sobering note, even at the end of the season, Glenfinnan is difficult place to find car parking spaces. The main car park was full, and anyone leaving their car by the roadside faces the wrath of the both police and local residents. I was given a dressing down by a local resident, for injudicious parking!
Accommodation in Glenfinnan is often more expensive than Fort William. Overall, Fort William is much better option, and I'd thoroughly recommend taking the train from there to Glenfinnan, leaving the car at the hotel or guest house, rather than going by road. Also, Fort William has a good bus service to Glencoe (journey time 32 minutes) and there's the cable car service up Aonach Mor (the 8th highest mountain in Britain) and It's also a convenient base for visiting Ben Nevis. Of course being a town rather than a village, you've got much better shopping facilities, including supermarkets and restaurants.

Probably if it wasn’t for the Harry Potter movie, Glenfinnan Viaduct, it wouldn’t have all this tourism, but once you get here you’ll be enchanted by the location regardless of the movie. When the Hogwarts Express in fact (actually the Jacobite Steam Train) crosses the Highland Railway bridge, it thrills young and old alike beyond the wizard saga. Location to see absolutely, better if, at the passage of the train of course that happens 2 times a day.

From where to take the normal train for Harry potter famous Bridge journey? All the tickets are sold put for steam train

You can get Scot Rail tickets from Fort William station for a train that goes to Mallaig - which travels over the viaduct.

Does one need to bo ok seats on the West Highland Line? We'll buy the Spirit of Scotland ticket. We intend to stay overnight in Corrour and Fort William and was therefore wondering whether it is possible just to take the train without booking in advance. Travelling September 1st.

The steam train is fully booked but you can get the Scotish rail . We went on that and found it very good great views as the windows are much bigger you don’t have to book but may be cheaper if you do

hi! did you park at the train station and walk to the view point? I want to view the train from the "top" viewpoint.
thank you

Park at the visitor center located across the road from the Glenfinnan Monument. Easy walk to be directly at the viaduct or go to higher ground nearby for a different view. Several other interesting viewpoints on the route to Mallaig including another scenic viaduct bridge.

What is the post code of the car park ?
Đã viết vào 24 tháng 6, 2019
When we went up there, I put into google maps Glenfinnan Viaduct View Point and it comes up with the A830, 4LT Glenfinnan - Hope this helps. It's on the main road, there is a main view point car park and just abt 50m there's a small road on your right, where there is another small car park. Park up and keep walking up the gated road (gated to stop cars not walkers). Worth the walk up.

Hi, I wanted to visit Glenfinnan Viaduct in December from Edinburgh but traveling by train to Fort William takes a long time. Is there any other option I can do a 1 day trip to Glenfinnan?
Đã viết vào 29 tháng 5, 2019
Hi Mohammad, we travelled by car. As stated by others the weather and limited daylight hours would make a day trip by car from Edinburgh unlikely. I would suggest staying at Fort William to make the stay more enjoyable and less rushed.

Hi, we are planning a HP trip to UK in late December after Christmas. Just wondering whether the Jacobite train or ScotRail operates in December? Thanks!
Đã viết vào 15 tháng 5, 2019
The Jacobite Train doesn’t run in Dec. ScotRail regular trains do but on limited timing too. Check out their website for details. Even if you get to Glenfinnan station, with the museum closed, I’m not sure if there’s anyone there to direct you to the path up the hill (which offers beautiful views) to the viaduct. Not sure if GPS works on the hill as I didn’t try then.
