We had a great time at Pench National Park and saw a tiger on our morning safari at Turia Gate. We highly recommend our driver if you need someone to show you the area (Amit 62617 27830) and our favourite guide was Ajay. We saw the park for morning, evening, and night safaris and also explored the local villages and nature areas. A great chance to see a unique jungle environment and learn about local life

Yesterday we went to Teliya gate for evening Safari. We spotted tiger named jugini with its cubs. The guide named Mukesh with his driver was very experienced, his only goal was to make us spot a tiger. Very good analysis by him.

within 5 min of driving inside Pench (Madhya Pradesh), i came to the following realization. this is a leopard country, despite its much touted association to mowgli and the jungle book.
now, some background. pench is heavily forested by teak trees, with patches of mixed forest comprising bamboo, saja (crocodile bark), etc. terrain is hilly and rocky, interspersed with many river gullies. these are all the favorite hideouts for leopards, who love to perch themselves on rocky outcrops, tree branches, or inside the gully.
such landscape is particularly apparent in the Teliya / Khawasa buffer zone. at least 3 tiger families are known to roam this area. however, due to the lack of open meadows, sightings are challenging. during my visit, a mother with 4 cubs were spotted drinking by the river bank in the morning, but there was no trace of them by the afternoon. leopard was sighted instead.
in Touria core zone, there are a few open plains, with occasional water bodies. the latter are unfortunately quite far away from the vehicle route for the most part. forest remains the mainstay here. there were 3-4 reported leopard sightings in a single morning safari, with some guests seeing all of them. i saw one of the leopards (but poor quality sighting) and were also lucky enough to be present when a tiger decided to climb down the rocks towards the backwater.
i also saw two new species for the first time in India at Pench
- Nilgai, the largest antelope in Asia
- wild boar, the Asiatic cousin of poomba
in short, this is not really a park i would recommend to someone who must see a tiger, due to its inherent challenges in landscape. i have heard however that tiger sightings are more encouraging / impressive in the Khursapar zone on the Maharashtra side (as of May 2024), while Sillari zone (also on Maharashtra side) is known for its animal density.

Well managed trip
Well mannered and knowledgeable guide and driver
Managed to see tiger and other wildlife
But needs better coordination between various guides so as to allow all visitors to enjoy the safari

I went to Pench with my family (spouse and 2 teenage children) in last week of April 2023. It was VERY hot (close to 40 deg celsius) but a good hat [not just cap] + plenty of liquids + sunglasses did the trick.
TravelGleam Wild (9958993316 , 9899954675) helped arrange the logistics - taxi from/to Nagpur + hotel accommodation + safari tickets. They usually don't arrange accommodation but on my request, they did.
I’M VERY HAPPY with their engagement.
We went for 5 safaris with one of them being a night safari. It was a GREAT experience. The terrain is not as dense as places like Jim Corbett. Therefore, chances are high of spotting wildlife – tiger etc. Of the 5 safaris, 2 were evening safirs in Khursapar - the Maharashtra part of Pench. 2 were morning safaris in Turia – the MP part of Pench. And 1 was night safari at Khawasa (MP). NOTE : Night safari is ONLY ALLOWED in buffer zone. Turia and Khursapar though are core zones.
We were lucky that in all the 5 safaris we spotted tiger. In one of the morning safaris we spotted a mother and a cub (pretty grown). We didn’t get to spot leopards though but were told that a trip before ours had spotted one at Khursapar.
We stayed at Tiger Meadows. A simple and warm place. Folks at the hotel went out of the way to make us feel comfortable. As mentioned earlier, the place is simple – nothing 5 star-ish. If you’re looking to spend good amount of time in safaris and other outdoor activities, and are happy with warm people serving you simple food in simple accommodation, Tiger Meadows is a great place to stay. The rooms have A/C. The owner is himself a wildlife buff and is familiar with the details and people – a very nice person – not money minded and easy to bond/connect.
IMPORTANT : THERE IS NO option to stay within the forest. The forest guest house IS NOT AVAILABLE to the public. So be careful of agents and hoteliers telling you otherwise. I appreciate TravelGleam about this as they were honest about this instead of exploiting me.
Apart from safaris there is :
** motor gliding (WONDERFUL – go at sunrise if you want to be mesmerised by nature’s beauty)
** Kohka lake for boating and some water adventures. We took a look from outside and didn’t do boating etc
** Pottery village. Around 20-30 minutes from from Turia gate. If you would like to try your hand at making pots with guidance from expert potters, it is a very nice place. You also get to buy some interesting pottery
** Jungle walk. This is organized by Tiger Meadows. However, due to lack of time, we didn’t opt for it
NOTE : Taxi – Nagpur to Pench and back to Nagpur – costed me 10.5 K. The vehicles were in very good condition and the driving was EXCELLENT. Thanks again for the good arrangement by TravelGleam. Regarding safari, each safari cost me approx. 8K with the whole jeep booked just for my family.

Visited the place with family and friends in December 2022. It was an wonderful experience in terms of stay, Forest safari, Nature walk and spending time with the nature. The reserve forest is very well maintained, the safaris are well organised and safe. We enjoyed every bit of it. The forest is very vibrant and lively. We have witnessed the life in a forest unfolding in front of our eyes.
The forest, however, is getting over exploited with large number of hotels and resorts coming up in the buffer zone. Lot of adventure activities are taking place around the forest. This will negatively impact the animals in long term. Also, I wish the authorities will take steps to reduce the noise and air pollution caused on daily basis by the large number of Safari vehicles. Probably, switching to electric vehicles would help.

This Tiger Reserve has been heavily commercialized. I felt nothing but SORRY for the Wild Animals there.
To add to the misery, the Safari Jeep drivers drive like mad when they see a Tiger. I wonder how terrified the animals must be getting due to all the chaos and engine noise.
During our last safari, we spotted a tiger near Turia Gate. Within minutes all the Jeeps gathered around. I think these people use their phones or some medium to let other safari jeeps know about the spotting. The whole situation gets chaotic.
The forest officials should take responsibility and ensure that Gypsy drivers do not race through the Jungle.
Resorts near Turia gate and in the buffer zone play loud music at night. This should not be allowed anywhere near a forest. Wild Animals must be getting scared.
It's so heavily commercialized that there's paragliding and balloon ride over the forest. Nothing is scarier for the animals than something approaching them from over the sky.
MP Govt should look into all of these activities. Only raising slogans of save the tiger will not help.
One should also avoid eating anything at the small restaurants near TURIA gate. My family got food infection after eating small snack items there.
I will not recommend anyone to go here. Not because this place is bad, but because it's not good for the animals.

Pench is a beautiful jungle located in the state of Madhya Pradesh in Central India with dense forest and grassland habitat.
We didi multiple safaris in Turiya and Khursapar zone and also went for a night safari in Rukhad zone.
We contacted TravelGleam Wild (9958993316 , 9899954675) for our bookings and the entire process was smooth and easy. It is because of their assistance we were able to book our cabs and safaris, and they made it a memorable trip for us.

Any Idea, when booking for the Forest Permits for Season Starting October 2021 open at Pench?
Instead of the names of the zones, the zones on the forest department permit booking website, now show as PH1, PH2, PH3, etc.
Is anyone aware, which of these is Touria?

We are visiting in November and have arranged a number of visitors to the park through our hotel. As I understand it the hotel provide a guide but I guess the National park also provide a guide as well as the driver.
Can anyone tell me what the tipping culture is? Do I need to tip all 3 people and providing I am pleased with Safari what is a typical typing amount?
Many thanks
Đã viết vào 28 tháng 10, 2019
Tipping is purely an individual's practice. There is no common culture or rule book. Also, Good safari or bad safari shouldn't be judged by what you sight. It should be more on the knowledge exhibited by the Guides / Driver and the interest they've shown. We've seen 12 tigers in one safari and we've seen virtually a deserted forest as well. We've been happy on both occasions as the guides / Drivers, go out of their way to ensure we've an enjoyable safari, by providing a lot of insights and sharing their experience. Hope, I've been of some help.
