Definitely more impressive on the inside than the outside. A large church with a main altar, and two large side altars. Several places have glass panels set in the floor where you can see the more ancient walls and foundations on which this church has been built. Beautiful ceilings & artwork.

Bon une église de plus, mais celle-ci attire à la visite avec sa belle façade, richement décorée et ornée un choeur magnifique, des couleurs resplendissantes et une lumière exceptionnelle! l'autel est remarquable ainsi que le plafond, donc levez la tête.

Eine schöne Kirche darf natürlich auch in Locorotondo nicht fehlen. Im Zentrum des kleinen Städtchen findet man die Kirch Madre San Giorgio. Die Kirche ist nicht überladen, aber trotzdem schön anzuschauen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich.

In giro tra i vicoli del centro storico di Locorotondo, reso ancor più suggestivo dalle decorazioni e dalle luci natalizie, ci siamo ritrovati dinanzi a questa chiesa monumentale, dall’aspetto grandioso, dedicata a San Giorgio martire e risalente agli anni tra il 1790 ed il 1825 ma edificata su altre chiese, come si può notare dai resti conservati e ben visibili all’interno. Molto particolare il presepe con Gesù Bambino sul grammofono, realizzato davanti all’altare maggiore che, incuriositi, abbiamo fotografato prima di rituffarci tra le stradine illuminate e affollate del paese, in una fredda serata di inizio anno.

The church, dedicated to St. George the Martyr, was built between 1790 and 1825 on the site of previous churches.
The construction is based on cross plan with neoclassical influences, as well as the implementation of Renaissance and Baroque parts of previous churches..
Admission is free, although a (small) donation will always be appreciated.

Domina il centro storico con la sua grande facciata in stile neoclassico, l'interno invece è d'impronta barocca e conserva dei pregevoli dipinti di scuola napoletana. L'edificio attuale è stato realizzato a cavallo tra settecento e ottocento sulle fondazioni di due vecchie chiese, alcuni resti si possono vedere attraverso le lastre in vetro sul pavimento.
