A great walk exploring the Cage and seeing cows and deers on the grounds. Amazing customer service at the cafe below the house, they were really helpful and friendly.

A lovely house to have a walk around but for me the grounds and the gardens were the best, they are absolutely huge, you can spend hours just walking around, plenty of toilet and cafe facilities around aswell .

Superb location magnificent views and a great house. For a change with National Trust properties we actually saw many rooms and they are splendid. A great visit and a superb house. Only one problem the size of the essential cafe. A bit small but possibly after effects of Covid?
For those who like walking it goes on for miles so a day visit can easily be filled.

Visited here today. It’s quite a steep climb from the car park to the house. The house is stunning. Lots to look at and as usual the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Couple of negatives. Bad signage for the toilets, I walked all the way to the toilets in the garden (which are horrid) as there was inadequate signage to the toilets by the cafe.
We bought a cake, a scone, a latte and an americano in the cafe. The cake and scone were very dry and the americano had no flavour at all, it was like hot brown water.
Visit the house but give the cafe a miss.

We love visiting all these old places with history
First of all this is a large estate with lots of walks and things to see
You can visit the walks for a fee each person pays not per car
However the house and inner gardens are extra and are worth the extra
What a great place and lots of places to get a snack will return

Don't bother going on a weekend! They have 1 person checking National Trust membership and letting cars in. We were sat in a the queue for 40 minutes and couldn't get out because the drive is too narrow to turn around in. The queue was around 3 miles long. While we were waiting a lot of cars were coming in the opposite direction, which we thought was odd. Once we got in and were directed to the "overflow" car park, we quickly realised why people were leaving in such droves. There were queues everywhere - for the toilet, for food. There was 1 person serving at the cafe and the queue was pretty much stationary and about half a mile long. Full of screaming kids and people walking in the middle of roads as well.
I would avoid on any day that is a weekend, or sunny, or a just has "day" in it tbh.

Beautiful big well kept estate. Lots to see so you could go repeatedly as you’ll never see it all in one day. On the expensive side to go if you’re parking.

I was taking my 90 year mother from her nursing home for a cup of tea with 2 other non-members and was asked to pay £18 to park. I am an NT member and my mother was a member for most of her life until her disability made it impractical for her to visit the houses. We visited the courtyard tea room which was very dirty with leftover food on all the empty tables. It was not a busy time. The overpriced cup of tea consisted of a teabag dumped in a disposable cup of hot water. The walks were not suitable for wheelchair use. We will not be going again.

Hi H K,
Lyme doesn't have a parking charge, rather a per person admission charge. As a charity, admission fees help us fund vital conservation work. This fee goes directly to Lyme, allowing us to care for this special place for many years to come.
With that being said we're sorry to hear you had a bad experience and we would like to find out more. Would you be able to send an email with your details to Lyme@NationalTrust.org.uk?
The National Trust is committed to to make it easy for disabled visitors to enjoy the places we care for. I'm not sure if you're aware that depending on your situation your Mother may be eligable for discounted or free entry to our places. You can find out more at this website - nationaltrust.org.uk/features/access-for-everyone
Best wishes,
Victoria

Lovely place to visit, volunteers very friendly and helpful. However beware sat nav directions may take you down a one way dirt path that doesn't let you into the grounds

Hi Ally, we're glad you had an excellent day. Though we're sorry to hear you had a spot of trouble finding us, if you're visiting again we would recommend popping SK12 2NR in to your SatNav. Best wishes, Victoria

Overall the whole day was very good with well kept grounds and buildings. The Timber Lodge was nice for lunch but the choice was quite limited. Lots to see in the house with helpful, volunteer guides. The available maps were appreciated very much.
One thing that was lacking were signs for The Lantern walk. We started to do the walk on the path past the stables but there was no indication of the right hand stile, so we walked way further than we needed to go. In the end, we didn't have time to complete the walk which was a shame.
There are lots of things to see. We spent 7 hours at the property.

With lyme park is it the £8 peradult charge to enter the actual grounds or is that charge just to enter the house?
Does anybody know if the children's plat area is open now?
Michael N
Cheadle Hulme, UK3.845 đóng góp
If you are not a NT member then £8 is a car park charge. Until Dec 2nd all indoor facilities are closed then as Lyme is in Cheshire it is Tier 2 so the house will reopen.
You should not travel from Tier 3 e.g. Greater Manchester to Lyme after lockdown.
You must also book a 1/2 hour time slot to arrive on the day you wish to go otherwise you will be turned away even if you are a member. Once in you can stay until closing time.
Hope this helps, NT website may have more info or contact Lyme directly.
Not sure if play area open, it was not earlier in the year

No it is currently closed. You will need to check the national trust website for details of when they might reopen.

The park grounds are free to walk around and extensive. The house, car parking and gardens you do have to pay for unless you are a National Trust member and it’s all free of charge.
Does the shop sell venison?

There were lots of walkers with their dogs going around the slight hills. Not a lot of flat ground that I noticed so maybe not good for kids biking. Perhaps in a different area in the national park rather than close to the house?

I will be taking the Skyline 199 bus from Buxton. I understand there is a shuttle bus from the information kiosk that takes visitors to the house? Is that available every day the house is open? If not, what is the walking distance from where the bus drops passengers off to the house? Thank You.

Think the shuttle bus operates every day but if not it’s about 150 yards (up a fairly steep but well surfaced path) to the house.

Would I be able to drive to see the front of the house? My mother is a wheelchair user and would not be able to walk but she would love to see the front and the lake.

Sorry for the late reply. As far as I remember, there was a disabled car park at the entrance and the area was wheelchair friendly.
