It was just the season of autumn colors. The view from the gondola is spectacular. At the end of September, the weather is just right, as long as it's sunny, and you don't have to wear heavy clothing to feel comfortable with long sleeves and windbreakers. I enjoyed the magnificent scenery of the Daisetsu Mountains.

This cable car-chair lift combination is essential for the ascent to the plateau that is the heart of the Daisetzuzan Park. The complex of two cable transport systems in fact takes you from an altitude of 670 mts (Sounkyo Onsen) to 1520 mts. (upper station of the chair lift).
From here various paths branch off for the different destinations of the massif, although it seems to me that by far the most popular route is the one towards Mt. Kurodake, which represents the most direct access route to the central plateau, and requires an additional climb of over 460 m.
It should be noted that the chair lift doesn't have seat closures with movable parapets: a feature that I found here for the first time, and which I imagine isn't allowed in Europe.

I stayed in Sounkyo for 2 days at the beginning of March 2024. I took the Mt. Kurodake cable-car around 10am - there were only 3 other people in the gondola! I was lucky that the weather was fantastic - clear, blue sky and little wind. The view from the observation platform on top of the cable-car station was amazing - 360 degree mountains as far as you could see. I was the only one on the observation deck when I arrived!
Skiers and snowboarders can take a chairlift which you can walk to from the top cable-car station - only skiers and snowboarders were allowed to take the chairlift. I saw some skiers that climbed further up Mt. Kurodake from the top of the chairlift.
I saw them coming down from the summit - you would have to hike to get that high! I also saw ski tracks off-piste. You can buy an all-day lift ticket for the cable-car and chairlift if you are a keen skier / snowboarder. There is only one on-piste run down the mountain, so I think the people that are skiing all day are advanced and are going off-piste.
If the weather is good, even if you're not a skier the view from the cable-car and observation deck is breathtaking!

I've been on the Kitami National Highway several times, so I've looked up at the cliffs of Sounkyo many times. It was cloudy and I was a little worried, but I heard that the cloud base was relatively high, so I took the long-awaited Kurodake Ropeway, changed to the lift and climbed up to the entrance of Kurodake, but the cloud base was still high so I was able to look down. I walked to Ameyuri Falls, afraid of bears, and unfortunately I couldn't see the top of Kurodake, but the waterfall looked beautiful. The lift was cool and refreshing, and I was satisfied with the view of Sounkyo from above on the ropeway.

地上でロープウェイの乗車券を購入する際に、５合目からさらにその上の７合目まで行くペアリフト券との共通券を購入するか聞かれました。このペアリフトは本来スキー用リフトですが夏場は観光用に稼働しているとのことです。15分ほど乗る長いリフトで景色もさらに良くなるのでペアリフトとの共通券を購入することをお勧めします。
ロープウェイは急斜面を登っていきました。力強い緑色の景色が印象的でした。５合目に到着した後に展望台の最上階に行き黒岳やその他の山々を鑑賞しました。お手軽に素晴らしい景色が見られる黒岳ロープウェイ、お勧めです。

旭岳ロープウェイが大雪山の表側とするなら黒岳ロープウェイは大雪山の裏側という感じです。どちらがオススメかと問われればどちらもオススメですと答えるしかありません。旭岳ロープウェイには忠別湖を一望して遠く旭川市街地を望むことができます。黒岳ロープウェイは層雲峡の岩の摂理が並び立つ様子が一望です。旭岳ロープウェイは旭岳に登らなくとも裾合平という一面チングルマの花咲く七月やチングルマの紅葉の見事さを見れる九月と季節ごとにアクセスが簡単にできます。黒岳ロープウェイはリフトを使って黒岳の七合目まで登れるというのが最大の利点です。あともう少し頑張れば大雪山黒岳に登頂できます。
どちらも旭川駅からバスで二時間ほどでアクセス可能です。スイカは使えず現金を用意する必要があるのが難点ですが。

This famous ropeway in the Sounkyo Hot Spring area facilitate travel up Mt. Kurodake. It is at the front entrance to Daisetsuzan National Park region. The large-scale gondola fits 101 people and takes you up to the 5th station of Mt. Kurodake. It is used by both casual tourists, and mountain climbers and takes 7 mins one-way and comes at 20-minute intervals. Adults round trip cost 1,200 yen but we paid lesser as we are in a tour gp..
We were the first gp here on a Thursday Oct morning so were alone. Enroute there were moment that we got above the cloud-sea and see the vast Mt. Daisetsuzan Mountain Range. A very steady ascend.
There are 2 small shops at both the bottom & top level selling some souvenirs. But the hot kohi from the vending machine was what made our day, with a chilling 7 deg at the top with gust of chill wind. Great experience!

初日は雲っていたので次の日乗ることにしました。
駐車場が満車にちかかったので混んでいるのかと思ったら登山者のものらしく、ロープウェイはそんなに混んではいませんでした。(早く行かないと満車になりまする)晴れていたので絶景ですばらしかった、天気しだいでは料金が少し料たかい

標高1,300メートルの５合目まで約7分で到着します。101人乗りの大きなゴンドラなので揺れることもなく景色を楽しむことができました。9月下旬ということで、日本一早いとされる大雪山系の紅葉は見事でした。

I'm not sure if it will be frozen but there'll definitely be snow. Lots of snow. I was there in early June this year and the snow was still there.

気温については黒岳ロープウエイのＨＰに本日の気温が記載されていますので参考にされると良いと思います
歩く所ですが、ロープウエイからリフトまで徒歩5分くらいは歩きますが、平たんな道で散策気分で歩くことができます
リフトは、いわゆるスキー場のペアリフトと同じですので、高齢の方でもリフトに乗り慣れた方なら大丈夫かもしれませんが、もし私が母（77歳）を連れて行いくならリフト乗り場までにすると思います。リフトの乗り降りが心配だからです。
ただ、リフトは楽しく、上がったところの風景は素敵なので、リフト乗り場で係の方と相談したうえで決めたらいかがでしょうか？
