Going to cannelli and not visiting an underground cathedral is a shame, we choose the winery Contract, because it was the one we found open first, reasonable price for the service, great, prodigal explanations, but not boring, I would say interesting, the premises are quaint, you understand why then certain wines have a price, it is really worth going there.

The cellar is very nice, definitely worth visiting. A disappointment the tasting: three wines plus a magnum probably opened the day before because it was completely bubble-free, with the prospect of a further taste, instead... a vermuth and the contract, an aperitif, like crodino, although more good. For 50 euros I would say it could have been done better.

Following Recommendation of this tour by a sommelier of the region, we made the guided visit to this cantine that produces foams by the traditional method. We were guided by the incomparable Giulia, who with great sympathy answered all our questions about this fascinating process of producing such a beloved drink. We tasted 4 sparks, passing by 100% Chardonnay, 100% Pinot Noir (wonderful), 80/20 and 90/10 Pinot/Chard. The table of colds and breads that accompanied the tasting and the red vermouth at the end were a positive surprise that added even more value to the experience. It is worth comparing with the traditional visits to red wine producers.

Spectacular these underground cathedrals with bottles piled neatly on top of each other or rotated in pupitres. A di-wine landscape to visit without any doubt. The young and knowledgeable guide accompanied us pleasantly on this itinerary completed by a tasting of five different qualities of wine that left its mark on our palates and hearts.

A very interesting visit to a winery that has made the history of Alta Langa. Riccardo, our Guide, was an excellent cicero: competence, passion and natural ability to tell the wine and the context in which the winery is inserted. Wine that is confirmed as a product of excellence of the Langhe. A nice discovery the white Vermouth!

We did some research and everyone said this was the best tour of the underground cathedrals in Canelli and it is !
The tour starts with cellar tour which is hugely interesting
Our guide was excellent at explaining everything and made the tour very interesting
The tasting upstairs afterwards was excellent and our guide was very informative about everything
Unfortunately I couldn’t remember his name
Tasting was accompanied by some lovely cheese and bread sticks
We purchased 2 bottles which we will enjoy back in Dublin !

The guided tour of the Contract Cellars is a spectacle.
The inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Site as Underground Cathedrals is highly deserved.
There are 5000 square meters of cellar, 2 million bottles.
The visit with the guide who explains the production method was very interesting.
The many galleries and corridors with vaulted ceilings are fascinating.
At the end, the tasting of four classic method sparkling wines, Alta Langa, high quality and very pleasant.
Definitely a visit that is worth planning specifically for this, even if the town is beautiful.
I recommend bringing a jacket or shirt, 13 degrees and high humidity are not so pleasant to stay in for a long period.

Beautiful visit very well organized. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained the history of the winery with great passion. Top tasting with a delicious platter. Excellent sparkling wine to buy...definitely to do

Hello ~ We will be touring Canelli area in late September and would like to take a tour of Cantina Contratto. I went to their site, but cannot read Italian. I was wondering if the tours run throughout the day, or if you have to prearrange a tour and if so, how does one do this.

We were lucky enough to have the BnB owner where we were staying ring and organise it for us. You would definitely need to contact them before turning up for a tour. It was a great tour, very worthwhile!
