Wine making & wine tasting

We visited Numisi’s as the first stop on a winery tour of Karkheti. The museum is run by a couple, and the woman took us on a great tour of the grounds, wine cellar, and house museum. We learned a ton about traditional wine making and got to see many cool artifacts from the region and beyond. After our tour, we enjoyed a lovely wine tasting of their homemade wines and cognac. It seems like lunch is also available if you arrange in advance, but we had other lunch plans so didn’t stay. Their wine and cognac are available to purchase as well.

The woman was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Her English was only okay, so I recommend coming with someone who can translate either Russian or Georgian (our group had both). However, I do really recommend coming - it’s not too far from Signagi and was a good value. A very unique and local-feeling experience!

Винный погреб Numisi - интереснейшее место, в полной мере дающее представления об секретах грузинского виноделия! Не просто погреб, каких полно, а полноценный музей, хранящий атмосферу грузинских традиций с давних времен. Мы приехали по рекомендации друзей на дегустацию правильного вина, без особых амбиций, но уже зайдя во двор стало понятно, что в этом месте все делается с душой: уютный, со вкусом оформленный садик изобиловал зеленью, цветами, всякими штуками, которые хочется потрогать-понюхать-сфотографировать, тут и там примитивно-милые инсталляции из хозинвентаря, предметов быта непонятного назначения, бочек, корыт, орехов, лозы - изобильно, колоритно. Внутри нас ждал гид Леван, сразу нас расположивший к себе свойским отношением, знанием дела и позитивным настроем. Леван провел краткий экскурс в историю грузинского виноделия и технологию создания вина с наглядной демонстрацией процесса. Очень круто! - ты не просто смотришь и слушаешь, а сам принимаешь участие в этом таинстве (уточняйте на месте)). На первом этаже сама цитадель, в подвале - ларцы с сокровищами, а на втором небольшой музей. В завершении действа нас ждала дегустация вина и чачи, - вкусно, весело, благодушно)))) В погребе конечно же есть магазин с большим выбором напитков, а также ресторан. В это место хочется вернуться!

Место восхитительное!
Нам с такой любовью и воодушевлением рассказывали историю про эту винодельню, что равнодушных просто не может остаться!
Нас угостили потрясающим винном, жгучей чачей, и отменным коньяком,
показали погреб n-го века(не помню точно) и рассказали технологию приготовления вина. Это невероятно интересно...И пьяно))
Мы не смогли уйти с пустыми руками, и прихватили с собой Саперави 93го года за 80 лари. Так как за пару часов до этого мы поженились в Сигнахи, эту бутылочку откупорим на какой-нибудь юбилей) Поэтому конкретно по этой бутылке, отзыв не дам)

Очаровательно место, куда хочется вернуться. Прекрасный гид Леван создал позитивную и дружескую атмосферу, у него очень неформальный индивидуальный подход, увлекательный рассказ со знанием дела. Было очень интересно послушать, увидеть и попробовать. Нам доверили даже помешать ви но в квеври, сводил в подвал.В винодельне создан отличный антураж, очень ухоженная территория вокруг. Для нас это было самым интересным посещением в Кахетии. Вкусное вино и лучшая чача. Уезжали с желанием вернуться. Спасибо Ливану, он создал теплую атмосферу!

Not wine tasting as you would know it

This place has some old evidence of wine production, they give a brief explanation of the wine production. Considering its meant to only have Quervi (Georgian technique) production, actually you dont get to try any. I wouldnt be in a hurry to go back here, as it was wine with the dinner they sold you, it wasnt wine tasting, and no idea if they produced it. Felt a bit of a con, although not having been to other wine production sites in the area nothing to compare it to if its the norm.

Une cave musée qui vaut la visite

De Sighnaghi, notre chauffeur Giorgi nous a emmené visiter 2 caves.

L'une, qui exporte beaucoup sa production, est une grande coopérative qui possède des chais importants et des chaines d'embouteillage.

L'autre est ce lieu à taille humaine qui est aussi un musée du vin et de la vie rurale.

Cette cave prétend avoir cinq siècles d'existence. Des qvevris (jarres de terre cuite enduites à l'intérieur de cire d'abeille) sont intégrés dans le sol.

Ce sont les tonneaux géorgiens, dans lesquels se fait le vin et qui servent de fût une fois le processus de vinification achevé.

Un jeune russe, parlant anglais, nous a guidé pour une visite des lieux, nous expliquant le processus et nous présentant les instruments utilisés.

Cette cave a beaucoup de charme. Le propriétaire y expose ses collections de vieux outils, instruments de musique, de cuisine, vieux postes de radio et TV, machines à écrire, photos anciennes, vieux meubles lavabo...

Satisfaits de notre jeune guide, nous lui avons remis un porte clé Tour Eiffel qui semble lui avoir fait plaisir.

Very good example

Visited here with a small group tour, the visit was in two main parts, first the visit to the winery itself to see what the history was around the wine making. This was very interesting and we had a very good english speaking guide for this. We were able to see the actual Qvevri in the ground and the process was explained well to us. The qvevri were of differing sizes and there was also a plan posted on the wall. At the upper level was like a time machine of all kinds of old technology, harking back to the old soviet era. TVs, radios, typewriters, all kinds of gadgets.
Following that we had the chance to watch a lady make the local shoti bread. We watched her rolling out the dough and then smacking it in the side of a preheated original furnace oven. The actual process did not take long and soon we were able to tuck into some of the lovely cooked bread.
Well presented and well worth the visit.

Instructive Wine Museum

This is a winery that claims it is 500 or so years old. From the qvevri embedded in the floor, one can't really disagree.
We received a very instructive tour of the premises, which is a working winery using the traditional qvevri (large ceramic jars buried in the ground) method. The wine making process was fully explained as well as the implements used. It is amazing how the qvevri method can produce good, drinkable wines.
The winery has an old world charm. We enjoyed walking around and imbibing the atmosphere.
You can purchase the wine produced here. The grounds are compact but pleasant to walk through.

Historical Winery

The place is beautiful and full of historical information. The guide was very informative and made it fun for us. This place is my favorite and I would deffo come back. Their wine samples are great and their chacha is so smooth. Their chacha is the only chacha i did like and had too many shots after. 😂 The restaurant is so nice and place looks like you’re inside the family kitchen with your grandma. Smells good. Too bad we didn’t eat here because we need to visit more and we are running out of time.

Its a must visit!!
