After the long walk uphill I most rewarded with a beautiful view of Sun Moon Lake.
The Cien Pagoda was built by Chiang Kai-Shem in memory oh his mother. The pagoda completed in 1971 and sits at the top of the 3,130 feet (954 meter) high Shabalan Mountain. The pagoda is 151 feet tall with a speculator view of Sun BBC Moon Lake.
The water in Sun Moon Lake is green and clear, reflecting the images of surrounding mountains and serene landscape.
Lalu Island in the middle of the lake separates the lake into a part shaped like a crescent moon and another part shaped like a round sun; I can see THE SUN, THE MOON, THE VIEW ... at Cien Pagoda.
Note: There is a water closet a little off to the left of the gate before beginning of stairs to the pagoda. No water closet at the pagoda on top.

Ci'en Pagoda was built by he late President Chiang Kai-shek to honour his mother. It is on top of a mountain that is 954 metres (3130 feet) high. The pagoda is 45 metress (150 feet) making the pagoda exactly 1,000 metres (3280 feet) tall. Ci'en Pagoda is the most prominent feature of the Sun Moon lake area. I have climbed Ci'en Pagoda serveral times. Chiang Kai-skek is conroversial these days but he did leave some attractive monuments.

Very nice view of Sun Moon Lake from the top of this pagoda. There are many steps to take to get to the top of area where the pagoda is located so make sure you are in shape to make the trek.

Cette pagode s'élève sur les hauteurs du lac à 900 mètres de la route. Une arrêt de bus permet de la rejoindre assez facilement. Ensuite, il faut gravir suivre la route d'accès jusqu'au parking et prendre les escaliers. La pagode est spectaculaire et offre une vue superbe sur le lac, mais sa construction est assez récente et due au général Chiang Kaï-shek.

Un peu à l’écart des grosses attractions touristiques et donc un peu moins fréquentée, il est possible de monter dans la pagode pour avoir des superbes vues sur le lac.

Forget all the politics why this pagoda was build.
The main, and maybe only, reason why you should visit it is for the breathtaking view of the lake and surroundings seen from the top.

慈恩塔位於海拔954公尺的沙巴蘭山上，當初建塔時，所有建料均利用船運過月潭水面，再用流籠送上山，工程相當艱巨，塔高僅46公尺，塔頂正好為海拔1000公尺。建成後，塔高聳入天，儼然成為日月潭著名的地標建築。從慈恩塔最高層往拉魯島(原名光華島)瞭望，拉魯島、玄奘寺與慈恩塔，約在同一條中軸線上，地形宛若是龍頭伸入潭中取水，拉魯島位於入水處，玄奘寺位於龍頭，慈恩塔則是龍之心臟部位。 慈恩塔入口大門處之「慈恩塔」匾額為蔣中正親題，塔內有一口巨大的鎮塔銅鐘，該塔建成後即懸掛至今。

We arrived just on the opening time (9am) to find no one else there. After a steady, but taxing climb of nearly 600m we came to the pagoda and it’s accompanying great drum. The adventurous can climb the pagoda (about 8 levels) for a great view over the lake.

There is a long walk uphill here, though not hard. When you get there is it worth it. The answer is probably just about. It's clearly a fairly recent structure and looks a bit tacky. Given the surrounding ground just gravel and run down. Although its located on the top of a hill, the views are not great.

It was a relatively easy hike up to the base of the pagoda. It was foggy on the day we went. Nevertheless, we still walked up 12 floors to the top of the pagoda. On a clear day, you’ll be rewarded with the panoramic view of the lake. We spent about an hour for the entire visit.
