2021年12月24日、谷町の山本能楽堂で人間国宝奥村旭翠独演会が行われました。
演目は『那須與市』『斎藤實盛』『羽衣』『安宅』の4曲でしたが、『羽衣』だけは出演されませんでした。『安宅』は大曲でした。
奥村氏は2016年重要無形文化財保持者認定、今年文化勲章「旭日小綬章」を受章されました。
毎年「旭翠会」の発表会にご招待いただいているご縁で今回山本能楽堂に足を運びました。
山本能楽堂は昭和2年に創建されたものの、戦災で焼失、戦後1950年に再建されたものです。現在は「国登録有形文化財」に登録されています。
山本能楽堂には観能のため数回訪れたことがあります。
能楽堂での琵琶の演奏は、所柄ゆかしい趣が加わった感じがしました。

大阪市中央区徳井町にこの「山本能楽堂」はありました。今日の公園はないようでしたが今月11月は11日・16日・29日・30日に開館され料金も1000円からとリーズナブルなっています。一年中にイベントがあります興味のある方は来てください。

徳井町にある見た目は住宅のような能楽堂です。中にははいれませんでしたが、雰囲気は落ち着いた建物です。

10月28～29日開催された《生きた建築ﾐｭｰｼﾞｱﾑﾌｪｽﾃｲﾊﾞﾙ大阪》の機会を利用して 訪問しました。こちらのような本格的能舞台を初めて鑑賞しましたが、関係者の方に 1.能舞台における《鏡板》に【松】が描かれる理由、2.能舞台周囲を囲む《白州》が持つ効果 3.音響効果を高める舞台下の甕の仕組み 4.席を固定席ではなく 可動席としている理由 などを説明頂いたおかげで 能への世界にほんの1ﾍﾟｰｼﾞですが 開くことが出来ました。こちちらでは《能楽堂見学会》を実施しておりますので 関心を持っておられる方は 訪問されることをお薦めします（見学会申し込みの詳細は ﾎｰﾑﾍﾟｰｼﾞ内《能楽堂見学会》に掲載されています）。物事には何事も 全て 理由があることを実感します。なお こちらの能楽堂及び能舞台は国指定登録有形文化財です。

新しく建て替えられたそうですが、未だ以前の建物部分も残っており、歴史を感じます。能の普及に力を入れており、分かりやすく説明して頂きました。又、海外からのお客様も結構いらっしゃるようです。

It's one of Japan's traditional forms of theatre. The attraction: Audiences know the stories but come to see how well the actors portray the characters and express their emotions.
While I wasn't able to see a performance, I was kindly invited by the manager to a tour and had the good fortune to meet a living treasure Noh drum player who was about to give a private lesson. He kindly showed me how to hold and hit a drum, giving me an appreciation of doing the right thing in the right way - no small achievement especially when the woman waiting to meet the master told me she had been taking lessons for 20 years.
My good fortune continued when a Noh actress showed us six masks (“man or woman? How old?” – I scored only two out of six) and demonstrated how holding them at different angles conveyed different emotions and feelings e.g. up = happy, down = sad.
That means when you walk on stage with a mask on – which I did, after being shown how to stand and walk (and bowing to/thanking the mask before and after) – you have to look at the poles at the four corners of the stage to judge where you are on the stage, because unless you are trying to look sad you can’t look down or it will convey the wrong emotion.
I also tried on a kimono – orange for hot summer, blue-green for spring.
Now knowing some of the back story, I definitely need to return to sit at the front of the stage for a performance.

大阪の能楽堂、、、座席が簡易なものであったり、座布団敷きだったり、背もたれがなっかったり、で、座りにくいところもあるのですが、ここは椅子席で、客席も広く、安心して、ゆったりと高齢者でも、楽しむことができます。

知り合いの会に行きましたが、とても綺麗にリニューアルされていました。二階席は後ろがベンチ形式の椅子になっていて、正座が苦手でも大丈夫です。
お手洗いもウオッシュレットですが、スペースの都合でかなり狭いです。

The Yamamoto family established this intimate-size theater in 1927 to preserve Noh, a traditional Japanese performance art.
The Noh Theater and an Osaka theater art support group prepare occasional variety shows. The evening we attended with a group of visiting college students, short Kyogen, Rokyoku, Rakugo as well as a Noh, were offered. Where possible the performances were in English (with translated handouts), and the MC introduced the performers and briefly discussed their specialty in English. When the performance couldn't be translated, for example, the Noh piece, the organizers used a video projector to display a running translation in English, Chinese, and Korean (and modern Japanese) on a side wall.
What was amazing to me was the stuffiness that usually colors traditional Japanese art forms was completely missing. All of the performers were relaxed and even joking. And it should be noted that Rakugo and Kyogen are comedic arts that everyone can enjoy. A few members of the audience were also invited on-stage to try Noh masks and be briefly tutored in its specialized posture and movement.
The combined performance lasts 2 hours, but the time passed quickly as each performance was just long enough to give a distinct impression of the talent and dedication necessary to be a master performer.
The Theater (http://www.noh-theater.com), and an organization promoting Osaka's theater arts (http://kamigata-night.com/), both have multi-lingual web sites. However, sometimes the Noh-Theater English site is not up-to-date, and the visitor might have to inquire directly with the Theater (in English) or find someone to translate the more complete Japanese site's calendar.
