I don't know what I was thinking. Hedgehogs are nocturnal, so to have multiple people constantly waking them up and handling them is so cruel. We picked them up once and then couldn't bring ourselves to do it again. They are incredibly stressed and jittery. Can you imagine being woken up every minute of the night and man-handled by a stranger? As for the meerkat - that had me in tears. He is in a complete state of fight or flight - he runs around from one side of his cage to another, on a leash, in a state of absolute panic and distress. It's horrific to watch. Horrific. We had to leave. I am so upset with myself for even booking it. It was really thoughtless.

原宿店で、4年半前にお迎えしました。
六本木店では、立ち寄った時に餌を購入させていただきましたが店員さんもとても感じが良く、また外国の方に向けてグローバルな方も揃っているようで、好感が持てました。カフェのハリネズミさんをお迎えした理由は、ペットショップのハリネズミよりも人に慣れており、いざお家に来る時にも比較的人間に対して安心感を持って来てくれたと思います。愛し過ぎて、可愛過ぎて、少しビビりな性格も世界で一番の我が子になりました。毎日たくさんの幸せをもらっています。そして、幸せに思ってくれていると嬉しいです。
他のハリネズミさんも、きっと幸せに暮らしていると思います。
店員さんも、毎日のお世話は大変だと思いますが頑張って下さい。
感謝と応援の気持ちを送ります。

Pretty cool. Would recommend it but 30minutes was ample. The meerkat was the highlight. The hedgehogs were cool. Unlike the owls they are pretty much the same just varying colours. Do it!

This “cafe” is awful. Hedgehogs are confined to tiny plastic cages while people hold them and they tremble in fear. They have no proper nourishment and their plastic containers don’t even try to offer them any sort of enrichment (or opportunities to burrow).

Okay, it's completely a touristy thing to do, but we had so much fun holding these little guys! One fat one, named Chardonnay, fell asleep in my hands. The place itself is nice and the staff is helpful and friendly. I've never seen a hedgehog up close, so this was a really fun experience.

I was sceptical about coming here as I always have concerns about using animals for our own human pleasure. However, the staff were excellent at setting the rules and boundaries around who to interact and behave with the hedgehogs.
The prices vary depending on the time you spend with them. A half hour is plenty, especially as they are nocturnal and my little “Gen”‘wasn’t up for being sociable. 1400Yen gets you to sit with one for a half hour and add a little more if you want to feed them. Definitely go the love food as the hedgehogs are virtually blind and so live food will get a better reaction if you’re after photos.
Read the website for directions. They were useful and very accurate. The shop is on the first floor, which says second floor due to different understanding of floor levels.
Plenty of cute paraphernalia to purchase - got 3 little hedgehog keyings for the kids.
Staff were excellent and very firm about how to behave but also happy to snap photos for you if you’re on your own like me.
Free drink on offer with the entry fee which for me was a cup of water.
I didn’t pick up my hedgehog. Just didn’t feel right. Others were right into it and probably being a little over enthusiastic. Anthropomorphising the hedgehogs is common. They aren’t people, they are wild creatures. I’m in a moral dilemma on how I feel about this and if I transposed this to someone setting up a similar business in Australian with echidnas, I’d baulk at the idea.
Anyway - I’d say it’s worth a visit but curb your urge to touch and manhandle them.

We had a lovely visit, the animals were well taken care of, in clean accommodations, there were enough animals that were rotated out that they didn’t get handled too much. The biggest surprise was that they had a meerkat! I sat on the floor and he cuddled up in my lap, it was an amazing experience! The staff was friendly and spoke adequate English, everybody there was friendly.

Hedgehogs and hamsters were cute. Chinchilla and prairie dog were a novelty as was friendly meerkat. Felt a bit sorry for. Meerkat but it seemed happy enough. Am entertaining 30 minutes.

So I had mixed feelings going into this, and I came away with mixed feelings, but I can tell you that they are adorable. I have never seen a hedgehog in person, and was surprised with how cuddly they are and how easily they get comfortable with people. Do I think this is okay as a business model, not really, but it is what it is, and the animals seemed well looked after.

Hello! I very much want to make a reservation and tried to through the website, but had trouble. How did you make a reservation? Or did you just walk in? I am nervous because I really want to do this and would be sad if I go all the way to Tokyo and then cannot!

I hope this reply is not too late. I e-mailed for the reservation. We were there in March 2017 and there was a line of people with reservations to get in so I would suggest try again. It's a super unique experience- my teen daughters loved it as much as they loved the deer in Nara.

Is this café suitable to bring a 2.5yr old child to, with two supervising adults?

I have a 2.5 year old nephew and I would not take him. the whole experience is to hold the hedgehog but they are sharp to touch. plus the space is small and tight, so unless your child can sit still for an hr, I think your child might lose interest and would want to walk around.
I suggest the bunny cafe above 1 floor. The rabbit is much more calm, allowing you and your child to pet it easily.

Trip Advisor should update their page ASAP...they are not open at midnight!!! They don't open till Noon. It was so miss leading and we got there early.

Yes, that's true. I would reccomned booking an appointment online and not go in as a walk-in. That's what we did. The hedgehogs need downtime and I noticed they were quite sweet and perky for us, but even after 1 hour they faded. So I think the best slot would be right when it opens @ 12 noon. I'd go back again, but am having second thoughts about the kindness of animals cafes(to the animals).
