A delightful hike with some challenging elevation gains and drops, and views all the way through. Very little traffic (which was awesome)! It was COLD at the start (7 degrees), the sharp blue sky, crisp air and bright snow dusting against the oranges of the hoodoos was mwah!

We went in July so of course it was going to be hot. We knew that going in. We started at Fairlyand Point at the small but almost deserted parking lot and hiked the 8 miles in a counterclockwise direction. This means the last mile and a half or so were very steep as we came out of the canyon. We started about 7:15 am and so the heat only got bad right at the end. Took us about 4 hours. Gorgeous. If you have a choice, I think the fall would be a better time.

We started in the morning, but the heat of the early afternoon made the steep elevation gains challenging. Bring plenty of water.

I have done almost all of the hikes in the Bryce newspaper given to visitors, and this is at the top. Okay, tied with whatever means you use to access Wall Street, but that is a far more demanding hike and no place to look for solitude. Fairyland is at the far end of the trail system, out beyond the crowds near the lodge and visitor center. It is longer in distance, but less physically demanding than many shorter hikes because the elevation changes are gradual. Wonderful scenery looking into the ampitheater from an angle you don't get from any other trail. Even the rim walk doesn't do this area justice, while Fairlyland gets you down into the ampitheater so you can walk among the formations and look at, or sometimes up, at them instead of down on them. Plenty of places to stop and rest. As long as you're making the trek be sure to take a very short (100 yards?) side trail to Tower Bridge, something you cannot see from any other vantage point or trail in the park. Note: the shuttle system will take you to the start/end of the trail, when operating, so you don't have to be concerned about leaving a car or arranging for pickup.

A very nice loop to do. Although I did the bigger loop before, I did this loop two times and you should ask what is best (clock or anticlockwise)

I've hiked hundreds of miles of trails all over Utah. I live in Moab and that should tell you something about my walking experience. This is the most beautiful trail I've ever stepped on. Hiked the Rim Trail to Sunrise point where I ran away because of the crowds and dove down into Fairyland Loop from there leaving all people but a few behind. It was breathtaking to say the least. Bring lots of water and take it all in. Not an easy trail. With Tower arch and everything else I clocked almost 9 miles. Loved every single step of it.

we started early from the parking and did the loop. it took about 4 hrs not including our stop at the general store. it was awsome with incredible views. I recommend start early to avoid the sun as much of the hike is exposed. there are amazing views so take photos. when you reach the rim trail take a detor to the general store. there is food and the amazing surprise of beer for as cheap as 0.75 per can.

Before you enter the park, you can go to this area without paying, and there's about a 12' pavement area for pets on leash - that's it. Looking over the edge it took me a minute to figure out why it's called Fairytale - the formation of rocks to the right looks like Cinderella's castle.

Unique landscape views of feeling other worldly. Enjoyed this walk quite a bit. There is some elevation change but reasonable and doable.

Are hiking boots necessary for the Fairyland Loop?

Hi from Minnesota 🤗. We are heading to Zion and Bryce Feb 27-March 5. I’m starting to plan some hikes but wondering what trails at Bryce are open this time of year- we would love to x-cty ski along the rim or snowshoe. Is there snow? We have traction devices for hiking. Snow and cold rarely slows us down. I do realize that weather changes and if there’s snow now- in 3weeks there might be none. And vice-versa.

Is this doable with a baby in a carrier or is it too steep? Thanks

we did both the "Navajo Loop to Peek-a-boo" trail (my favorite) and the "Fairyland Loop". The Navajo Lp starts out a bit steep but, then is up and down. Fairyland is less steep but more exposed (so you'd have to be careful of the heat, according to what time of year). So, of course, it would be dependent on your physical shape and the weight of the baby, as to whether you would be comfortable hiking with the extra weight. Loved, loved, loved hiking at Bryce Canyon!!!

I completely agree with the need for signage!!!! My husband and I are in pretty good hiking shape, and this loop just about did us in. We were out of water by the time we reached Tower Bridge, so it was a very long climb out. Thank goodness for a kind fellow hiker who shared some of his. Had there been proper signage, we would have rationed more appropriately. We didn't do the other hikes in the park after this experience.

There is a sign distinguishing the route to Tower Bridge from the last leg of the loop in the Canyon, but it is indeed easy to miss. ALWAYS HIKE WITH A MAP AND COMPASS, please. Two liters a day per person is the minimum to take with you on a longish hike.🙏

We are in our 60's and like walking and would like to do a walk/hike which would be no longer than 3 hours total (inc stops) on the Fairyland Loop. Can anyone suggest which would be the best for us to do, where to start and end to see as much scenery as possible and not get too exhausted (we do have hiking boots).

I personally loved the "Peek-a-boo" trail better than Fairyland Lp if you only choose to do one hike. Absolutely stunning. Do bring lots of water.

Do the gates close at night to Fairyland Loop? Hope this gets answered today...my bad...been told it doesn't..looking for confirmation...will be photographing Milky Way.

Also, since there are no lights at night near the rim, there will be many places near the rim to see and photograph the Milky Way with no light
interference.

This Tower Bridge 3 mile version of this hike sounds good because our time is limited. Is this portion of the Fairyland Loop mostly looking down at the hoodoos or are you down in the middle of the hoodoos seeing them up close?
Where exactly did you start? and will it be obvious which direction we should go or is there a choice (clockwise or counter clockwise)?
Did you get to the China Wall?
Thanks!

Hello! The Tower Bridge hike is extremely strenuous, and you barely get to see much of the hoodoos. I would recommend a small portion of the Rim Trail that begins at the parking lot at Fairyland Point.
