We did this hike this morning basically from Sunrise Point down into the valley then back up to the ridge at Sunset Point. 3 miles of so with some climb but temperature in the 70's today so perfect. View from the ridge line is stunning but to see the hoodoo's from below as well as the cracks, crevasses, and washes was amazing. If you are only coming to Bryce for one day do this hike and you will see the best it has to offer.

A couple of books said to start at Sunrise Point and hike to Sunset Point. This will put you into the Queen's Garden first and then make your way over to the Navajo Trail. The climb out is steeper but shorter. One ranger said the pain is quicker and over sooner. Take your time and enjoy the scenery and you may need a few stops on the way up. I recommend go early when it is cooler.

While my wife likes to hike. I tend to go much faster. Decided to queens garden only since I was carrying my Nikon 18-270. Got the fever and can’t wait for tomorrow and do Delicate Arch for a 2nd time

Gorgeous hike and my kids did great! (11 year old, 9 year old, and baby). The red rock was beautiful and the weather wasn’t too hot. Highly recommend.

A MUST do trail if visiting Bryce, so much fun! If you are relatively healthy you should have no problem completing this loop. We started from Queens garden and came up from wall street as suggested, my favorite trail ever!

I did this hike as part of a solo road trip to Bryce, Page and the Grand Canyon. This one was harder than the GC - South Kaibab trail (same mileage but probably because of the elevation). The Natl Parks site recommended you go clockwise but I did the opposite and started at Sunset and ended up at Sunrise, then walked the 15 min paved trail along the rim back to Sunrise - which was a heck of a lot easier than the trail!
Like other reviews have stated, go early - I started at 7:15 am and had long stretches of hiking all to myself, which was ideal (for me). Even encountered some deer grazing peacefully along the trail. Weather was perfect - I started with gloves and an extra shirt and ended up shedding those about halfway. Although I avoided the bad heat, I ended up drinking about 1 L of water from my hydration pack - highly recommend that. The hike is also best done with hiking shoes but every teen I saw was wearing sneakers and they seemed ok (I guess?). Poles unnecessary IMO, even the really steep parts - just go slow and be careful (eg, use common sense). I'm in decent shape and did the whole 3 miles (round trip to Sunset) in under 2 hours.
Truly, I felt this was an ideal way to experience Bryce. I did the scenic drive afterwards but walking among the hoo-doos was the perspective I wanted. Loved every minute of it!

Amazing views, amazing hike. Wall Street was a little tough due to elevation and asthma, but well worth it.

I fell and broke my femur in April, and had to have a hip replacement.
( Stupid...I tripped on my flip flop) I was doing great, but a bit of a setback with swelling. My trip is planned for 2 weeks out. Are there places to stop and rest, so I can still do the hike?

I was wearing flip flops because I broke my little toe, and my other shoes hurt.
Yes, I was able to hike the entire trail, and within the average time. (Wish your response would have been a bit more substantial)

We were at Bryce for one day 2 weeks ago, so our time was limited as what we could do, We are in our upper 60's and both have bad knees so we could hike to far so we decided to do the Queens Garden loop and come up Navajo Trail. This turned out to be a great decision. We had read several reviews that said do this hike counterclockwise. So we did and that was a good choice. The hike down through the Hoodoo's was really cool and then there is a mile or less over to the Navajo Trail. We talked to some other hikers when we got to Navajo that convinced us to go up Wall Street. Good choice. It was steep and not an easy hike but well worth the effort. Enjoy Bryce!

We have been there and want to return to hike a trail. We did not have time to do this as we were with a group. I want to know if this is too much for some one who so a very new hiker. Do you need to take water food etc. or is it a shorter trail and not necessary to do that/

Hi Jean, this is not a difficult hike at all. If you start at Sunset Point you'll have a more gentle descent down into the amphitheatre. You only need to walk down one half of the Queens Garden loop to get to the bottom, the left branch looks like the least steep and slightly shorter (you can see the trail shape on google maps if you zoom in correctly. Just search for Sunset Point, Bryce Canyon) but neither are hard going. Just take your time and enjoy the incredible scenery!
The Queens garden trail starts off fairly flat and eventually starts to steepen as you approach Sunrise Point but again it is not very steep. Just take your time and the whole Sunset Point to Sunrise Point hike will take approx 2.5 hours to 3 hours at the very most. You'll get amazing photos from the top of Sunset Point and also the top of Sunrise Point there is an observation platform where the best views are. The views as you walk through the bottom of the canyon are also truly breaktaking. Enjoy and let us know how you get on!

Hi! Question for the Bryce Canyon Experts! I am trying to decide between the Navajo/Queens Garden loop or the Fairyland loop. My bf and I are big hikers, time is not an issue and we are both in shape to do a strenuous hike. Does one loop have better views than the other? I am a fan of the Fairyland being the loop less traveled, but would I be missing out of something by not doing the Navajo/Queens? Or is the best option to do the mid length Peek-a-boo loop? I am more focused on views than anything. Please give me insight!

Hi Dominique - the Fairyland loop is much quieter and a good length hike, although I think the views are better if you take the Queen's Garden / Navajo trails PLUS detour via the Peek-a-Boo loop (this will add about three or so miles to your hike). The views up in the Peek-a-Boo loop are stunning, and it is far less walked. When we visited in August we only saw a handful of people on the Peek-a-Boo trail. Have fun...!!

Are any of these hikes starting at the top, going down, and then somehow walking out of the park without having to go back up again? Sounds crazy, but I'm not in hiking uphill shape by any stretch of the imagination. And what kind of shoes to wear for men and women? Thanks!

There's a hike along the rim, but the best view is to go down into the canyon and unfortunately back up. If you start by Sunset Point, the way down is steeper than the way up. I am 46, in mediocre shape and from flat low Louisiana. We trained by walking 2-3 mi per day with an occasional 5mi walk for about 2mo prior. A hiking stick helps and good hiking boots/shoes. Lastly, you need water, 2-3L, many people make the mistake of not enough water.

Hi all. We are traveling to Bryce Canyon in late December. We are couple of Seniors, capable for Easy and Moderate hikes. I read that the Navajo loop and Queens garden loop is not accessible in December. Can anyone suggest nice hiking in the canyon for late December? This is our first time in that region and would like to get the maximum from the one day visit we have there...

We are visiting in mid-October. I've read many reviews that say we should start the hike at Sunset Point, go down Navajo Loop and come back up Queen's Garden. Three questions: Will we be able to see Thor's Hammer doing it this way? Do we pass Wall Street doing it this way? And if we park at Sunset Point and come back up Queen's Garden, will we be far from where our car is parked?
Thank you!

Sunrise and Sunset Points are only about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile apart from each other at the rim. I believe more visitor parking is closer to Sunset point, but either way you won't be very far from your car, and the walk along the rim is flat and paved. We received conflicting advice about which way was better up than down...I think the best answer is that Wall Street / Navajo is steeper with a lot of switchbacks, so this might be harder on the knees and feet going down this way, but harder on the heart/lungs coming up this way. We made a mistake/deviation from our original plan and wound up coming up through Wall Street. It was fine. There is room at the curve of almost every switchback to stand in the shade and drink some water. If you take your time is will be fine. Thor's Hammer is close to the rim near Sunset Point. There may be a fork in the trail though -- I feel like because we did Wall Street we may not have walked by Thor's Hammer, but it was very visible from the rim or a short walk down into the canyon. Wall Street was open at the end of July.
