Keep on trucking because the colors jump out at you on every turn. The road is a fun diversion from the main drag. We loved the extra hikes along the way, as well.

Wow! Didn’t expect this. Not only is the scenery beautiful (colors, rugged mountains, desert) but the road itself is a work of art! It’s single lane but wide enough and slow enough for an RV to travel on. I would recommend taking this in a passenger car because if you want to stop, the pull outs along the road are too small and the big rig would be blocking the magnificent views. If you can, drive a ways back from the car in front of you so you can take in the sweeping landscape and the swooping beauty of the road. The road is one way traffic, once you are on you are on for the whole 9 miles until you get back on Badwater Rd. Near the beginning are two viewpoints with lots of parking.

Absolutely Beautiful, the color of the hills is worth seeing. Our Camera and Phone did not bring all the colors that the eye could see, to light.

Took a tour with small van and guide. Beautiful views on the one-way road drive and parked for on-foot exploration. Formations are multi-colored and make good photos. Climbing on rocks can be a little treacherous in spots and definitely not for people with challenged mobility.

We drove this drive twice - once after sunrise and again around sunset. Both were beautiful. The colors of the mountains are varied and colorful - hence the name. We were glad this was a one-way drive because you would not want to confront another car coming the other way. We stopped along the way and got some great photos. The road provided a fun drive - sort of like a roller coaster.

This was a beautiful drive in Death Valley. We especially appreciated how well maintained the road was since it is a mountain road. It is also a one way loop. I wish someone had told the driver who was driving her car the wrong way on the loop.

Arrived about an hour before sunset. Very nice and colorful. Hiked around for a while until sunset as the colors changed. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed the Artist Drive which lead us to Artist Pallet. Colorful views unlike anything I have ever seen. Great spot for photos with family and friends

You do not need AWD to do this drive, and you are handsomely rewarded about halfway through the drive with the varied colors and dramatic views of Artist's Drive!

We almost passed on this side drive coming back from the Badwater area---------glad we didn't---beautiful strange colors in the rocks and fun drive thru narrow rocks-----------they say 25 foot limit on your vehicle--they mean it

We just learned that Artist's Drive will be close first week in March when we will be there. Is There any other way to view this area? We have bicycles??

I'm not sure why this one-way road will be closing, it looked to be in great condition when I was there. I would say the bicycles would be ok but that really depends on what they are doing to the road going through Artist's Drive. I would not want to tell you to go ahead and use your bicycles if there are dangers ahead. I highly recommend asking the Rangers at the visitor center just around the corner from Furnace Creek Ranch.
