Would 100% recommend going on a sunny day but besides that just be in shape and be prepared to have an amazing interaction with nature.

Wow wow wow.... First off this is a hike that requires you to be in shape. They say it takes 5 to 6 hours to and from but we started at 926am and didn't finish till 610pm. Bring water, start early like 7am and bring prepared food. Once you get to the beach there is fresh spring water you can refill your water bottles with. Travel as light as possible as this is a very strenuous hike. Its rated a 6/10 in difficulty and definitely do this hike with Shaun from Hike Life Adventures. He is the absolute best. Truly a gifted hiker. The beauty of this hike is the journey and finishing it. There is a boat that can take you to the beach but you miss the hidden gems along the way. I saw things many tourist never get to see. This was one for the books...

Visited this place on the morning of my last day in Trinidad. It is a beautiful cave and even has an area where you can swim in if you'd like. There are steps and handrails almost everywhere but you must wear good footwear - sneakers - to avoid the risk of slipping. Bring your cell phone fully charged in case you also want to use the flashlight on it for extra assistance. The boat is about 30 minutes each way (no toilets on it). There are toilets by the pier on either side - start or finish point. You need about 45-60 minutes in the cave for everything. Afterwards, you may also walk up to two vantage points to see the old naval military weaponry that is now sitting idle. This would have been nicer if they cut down all the shrubbery for a proper view point of the Trinidadian harbor.

*Bring a sun hat as there is minimal shade leading up to the cave and military guns so the sun will bear down on you.*

Initial inquiries for the government trip informed us we needed over 10 people: after rallying around, when we came to book we were then told we needed 1 week's notice for the permit. How is this good for tourism?

Went on a different trip to the caves and Monos Island which was great. The caves were interesting with a short walk to get to them, and we were given information about their formation by the guide. The bay we visited on Monos Island was lovely- warm water, secluded and surrounded by soaring birds and towering cliffs. It was marred however, as are many of the beaches in Trinidad by litter around the margins including broken glass, sharp metal bottle tops, plastic water bottles and other undesirable items. It is such a pity no one can be bothered to make this place better for tourists visiting- everywhere you go there is litter.

We booked our tour thru our driver for 12 of us and we were met by the CDA reps and some other tour goers at the port. The CDA guide gave us a safety chat before we got on the boat to take us out to the island. We had a small but brisk walk to the cave. Once there our large group was separated into two so our group of 12 stayed together and took the first tour into the cave. We walked down a large amount of steps arriving around 100 feet below into the caves. I would recommend taking antibacterial lotion to use afterwards as the handrails has bat droppings on them in places. Our guide reminded us not to touch our face or mouth. The pool below was beautiful. What a sight to see and it was fairly easy for all of our group to get to the bottom. The guide is great in waiting and took s group photo for us too. After we came back up we waited at the little house on the terrace and watch birds as the other group went to the cave. We brought snacks to eat while the other group was in the cave. It was a very nice day and we enjoy all of it.

The inner cave was a sight to behold. The knowledge and tactfulness of the CDA tour guide handling the group was excellent, customer service at its best. Words cannot describe the sightseeing of the hidden treasure.

Visited here with some friends some time ago. It was truly beautiful. The tour boat takes you from Chaguaramas to Gaspar Grande Island. The tour guide takes you through the hike and then into the cave in batches. The geology and geography is amazing. The pool inside the cave is very deep so once you're a swimmer, knock yourself out! The view from up top is gorgeous as well. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a beautiful cave with gorgeous clean blue pool beneath the cave opening. With the right tour group you might even be allowed to swim in the water, and not many people can say that they've swam in a cave before, A must see when in Trinidad.

Note: Bring a swimsuit.
We asked our Uber driver to get us to the Chaguaramas Pier. Once there we paid $20TT per person to enter the pier. They sell snacks and beer there. Paid $150TT per person to Captain Hans with 'Down The Island Tours' (they're on Facebook). Hans took our group picture halfway to the island. There is a bit of an uphill (1mile) walk to reach the cave but an easy hike if you use the posted shortcut. I recommend you wear sneakers or snug walking shoes. there was a rest area, (sheltered building) with a washroom outside the cave. Upon arrival, we followed signs to the Gasparee Cave. Marvin, who is a salaried guide for the city, greeted us. He told us a quick history of the caves, rock formations and what their shapes represent. At the end, he allowed us to jump into the warm cave pool/water. it was quite the peaceful swim. he was very friendly and patient with us. He did not rush us. We took our time and truly enjoyed ourselves by jumping in and taking pictures on top of the rocks. This is a nice tour for adults, families and singles. Especially when you want a low stress tour on your own time and schedule.
