I was a guest of Garden Villa Ha Giang and actually attended a tour with a business associate of Garden Villa, named Tung (Tommy) Luong. I was grateful for the recommendation as there are many tour operators operating in Ha Giang, but I now know that this hotel and its business associates are financially insolvent and are unable to pay their business debts. I would not be surprised if they are not fully insured or bonded, and therefore working with this company is an incredibly risky endeavor that could cost you your life.
In my case, I lost approximately 100MM VND (about $4,000 USD) due to my partnership with Tommy Luong, who borrowed money from me to fulfill his business commitments to Garden Villa. He also tried to leverage me for free legal services to fire / make redundant Garden Villa's Spanish customer service representative, Ben, and therefore tried to use me for his own interest against his own employer. Tommy did NOT want Ben working there any longer and actively undertook measures to undermine Garden Villa's ownership and Ben's employment relationship. I have proof of these discussions in text messages from Tommy himself.
Tommy spent the money he borrowed from me on equipment, legal services, and other expenses to carry out his duties to Garden Villa. He claimed for months he would pay me back and that he had the money to do so, but I later learned that Tommy is severely in debt to MANY other businesses in the area and can barely fulfill his commitments to Garden Villa to maintain their marketing or business operations.
THE HA GIANG LOOP IS RISKY. In addition to dangerous terrain, you may encounter law enforcement and other risky situations for which you need a TRUSTED, BONDED, INSURED company that is FINANCIALLY SOLVENT AND RELIABLE. If they cannot even pay a $4,000 debt to their colleagues, do you think you should trust them with your life? You could be imprisoned, fined, extorted for far more- and this company, if its business associates are any indication, are NOT going to be able to support you.

Is it commonplace for you to expect your guests to loan money to your business associates? Do all your business partners have financial solvency issues or only Tommy Luong?
