I made the mistake of buying a $50 holiday gift card from this theatre yesterday, and it's been nothing but frustrating! They were out of the physical bonus packages that come with a $50 purchase, but the staff member indicated a QR code on a display and explained that I could visit the link and get a virtual bonus package. Sadly, this was wrong - when I went to the site at home, it turned out that you could only get the virtual bonus packages if you purchased an e-card. Today I went back to the theatre for a refund, and the manager told me that gift cards were non-refundable purchases. I explained what I'd been told by his staff, but he didn't care. His only suggestion was that I could use the gift card to buy another gift card - again, wrong, when I got home and tried his suggestion, the site would only accept credit cards. Do none of these people know what they're talking about?

Poor customer service. The lady that worked here on January 9th in the evening was not asking anyone for ID- A lot of couples/ individuals that appeared in their 20s. We come along and she refuses entry. Totally appreciate that you need physical proof but the most annoying part of this is that we must have been the only ones she had I'D 'd all night. When I confronted her and asked her why she wasnt asking anyone else for her ID she looked stumped. Myself and my partner are 31 for context and have just moved over from the UK. Why you would need to carry your physical ID to the cinema in the 21st century is beyond me. Won't be returning unless the staff have some training on how to interact with customers.

MICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at the late show here (Fifth Avenue Cinemas… theatre #3 balcony level). Was waiting for the movie to start and a mouse ran out about 2 feet from me. It could probably smell my popcorn. Disgusting and literally terrifying for someone scared of mice (I'm sure some of you can relate). Not to mention the disease they carry around and you SERVE FOOD. Plus, a great way to completely lose one’s appetite. I would have left, but didn't want to waste my money and really wanted to see the movie.
Moved to the lower level (not like that would help because if you see them darting out, there are TONS more where that came from, but thought it would at least be busier down there so I was hoping that would deter them from roaming around until I left) ... and saw them literally crossing the aisle during the movie. Can’t even focus on the movie after this happens – can’t even keep your feet on the floor. Most people never notice because of course, it's dark and you would hope there are measures in place to prevent this. And imagine they run on the seats and really catch you off guard. Sick!
The whole complex must be infested… and talk about rodent heaven when all of the scraps are left out all night. YUCK!
On top of that, the manager lady (I'm guessing Manager, as she was dealing with the cash register after closing) could have cared less when I told her as I was leaving, so that just tells me they see zero urgency in this issue.
Here is a tip: when the movie industry is DYING and there are LITERALLY only a handful of people in your theatre, perhaps you should take something like MICE seriously and actually at least "act" like you give a crap when a customer comes and tells you this. Have you heard the phrase "customer service" or "customer experience"???
I have always loved this theatre and it hurts my heart to know I could never return now, even if I wanted to. I can only imagine where the mice are running around at night. YUCK!

Fifth Avenue in Kits in Vancouver is friendly & welcoming from the moment one walks though its sliding doors.
I was coming back from having a good dinner at Nova Pizzeria, next door to the movie complex, when I saw Belfast was showing.
I spent some time in Belfast in 1977 in the height of what was known as “the troubles”, & was then considering moving there with my son to do a masters at Queens University, after completing my undergrad at UCT, & to escape apartheid South Africa.
Well I decided not to find myself & my son in yet another violent situation.
During my time there I developed a love of the city, the people I met there & a full-blown dislike for the way Britain was treating the Catholic majority, as well as a horror at the way Protestant forces brought in by the British were treating the Catholic citizens of NI.
I went back with my husband of 30 years in 2007, immediately feeling the same affinity with the place.
The very helpful Ben at the ticket desk said I would have to wait about 2 hours plus for the next showing.
Well I was there & interested in seeing the movie so I decided to sit in the lounge & slip a beer & have a further nibble while I waited for the late night showing.
The lounge staff, Tucker & Chris, were also very helpful.
I decided on a three selection cheese & charcuterie plate at 16$
I was plentiful, with olives & nuts as well as chutney, as shown in the picture here.
The Stella on tap was 10.93$
It was the first time I had been to a movie house since Covid lockdown in March 2020, but I felt safe enough & I was the only one booked for the screening.
While I was waiting some one came in for takeout pop corn. Strange times.
It cost 8$ & time getting a bag, but I suppose it is one of life’s comfort foods.
In these times anything can happen.

1. You can reserve your seats
2. There is an in-house sit-down bar with table service for light meals & cocktails (there is a separate area for the usual popcorn, hotdogs, softdrinks, etc as well)
3. You can bring your wine/beer/cocktail and light meal into the theatre during the film
So, make your reservation on-line, show up 30 min or so before the film and have a light meal (pizza, sandwich, cheese plates, etc) and wine, if you don't finish before the film starts, ask for a container to bring your food into the theatre. Relaxing and stress free. No rushing from a restaurant to get to the movie!
Cons: Theatres (there are 5 or 6) are smaller with somewhat limited seating compared to more mainstream alternatives (though some would consider this a plus - more intimate and preferable viewing experience)
The sit-down bar can become crowded but turnover is fast, so usually not a serious problem
And do remember, because this is considered an alcohol establishment, you must be legally adult age to enter (ie. no kids - so not good for families with kids)

Fifth Ave Cinemas offer a great selection of contemporary films, mostly American but with a good share of foreign films as well. I especially like the smaller theatres inside. There is a bar with food, trolleys that sell wine by the glass and the usual concession food. There is also underground parking which, depending on the day of the week, spares you circling around to find a meter.

The theatres here are all quite small but because the seats in each theatre are so comfortable and the backs recline there isn't a bad seat in the place. We live on the North Shore but always enjoy coming here for a show.

Towards closing, probably the last 10 minutes the movie stopped abruptly. Nobody came out from the management for over 5 minutes. Audience was extremely polite and patient. I was the only one clapping hands to try to alert management. Finally someone showed up. Promises were made, but ten minutes later, nothing. Then the management claim that they do not understand why the computer has failed, and that it will take probably 5 minutes to reboot. That failed. They refund our ticket, and gave us one bonus ticket as compensation.
I inquired will my parking be refunded as well. The answer was NO.
That's was it, wasted over 130 minutes, without knowing the end, paid $12.- parking.
I certainly not going to return to see the end and have to waste over two hours to do so.
BTW, the chairs are really heavily used and extremely uncomfortable. Sound was good, and the screen was excellent providing if you sit within the last three rows.

We had bought our tickets online with reserved seating in Auditorium #4 for row D and seats 7 and 8 to see “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”. The seats were very comfortable and you can lean back quite a bit. Our seats were great for watching the movie and luckily there wasn’t anyone sitting in front of us. The sound system was decent. Entrance to the theatre is on West 5th Avenue.

My partner and I visited Fifth Avenue Cinemas a few months back while in town. We’d wanted to see “The Death of Stalin” and, during our quick foray into Vancouver, this was the only cinema showing it at the time. In the end, we were quite pleased with our overall movie-going experience.
First opened in 1996, Fifth Avenue Cinemas is fairly small by modern standards (5 screens). It was purchased by Cineplex in 2013 and underwent a nice $2-million-dollar renovation in 2015. Along with relocating the lobby/main entrance to fifth avenue (how appropriate), the cinema itself was expanded by approximately 21,500 square feet so that it could include a full-service, licensed lounge. As well, the auditoriums were upgraded and updated with new, high-back leather chairs, carpeting and a fresh coat of paint. The end result was the establishment of a cinema restricted to 19+ (yay!), with a sleek, stylish interior reminiscent of Cineplex’s larger VIP complexes. For me, this was a welcomed changed and lent itself to creating a unique film experience.
Even though I didn’t have the opportunity to try the lounge, it deserves at least a brief mention because it is, I think, what helps to make Fifth Avenue unique amongst Vancouver-area cinemas. Along with being fully licensed to serve alcohol, the lounge also functions as a restaurant with an emphasis on local ingredients (i.e.: “BC”). Here, movie patrons can procure such delights paninis, freshly made salads, artisanal cheese plates, ice cream and classic cookies. All of these items feature ingredients from in and around the Province, which is kind of a neat touch. And beyond the food, the space itself is pretty stylish. It features modern, comfortable chairs; beautiful fireplace; and low-level lighting to really impress upon you the relaxed atmosphere and vibe.
I don’t really have anything negative to say about this cinema; my overall experience was pretty excellent. Beyond the updated look and comfortable seating throughout, I really appreciate the fact that this Cineplex – unlike most others – seems to pay more attention to “art” films or those that have a limited release. It helps this place to stand out that much more! Highly recommended!

Meter parking right outside on the street.
No designated car park though for the cinema.
