Our Tour Guide was fantastic, so knowledgeable about the history of the home in addition to the Carr family. All the unique details of the history of the home were what made this tour truly incredible.

As someone who is not an art enthusiast, but a huge history buff, I found this tour fascinating. Something for everyone who enjoys the art of Emily Carr, her story, or in general the history of the area.

There is also a map of the general area that takes you on a historical tour. We didn't have time to do it on this day, but would recommend this self-guided tour following your visit to Carr House.

They are also offering pruning and other gardening courses.

Price is by donation - I highly recommend providing a good donation, the value of this tour is truly worth it!

A hidden gem that brings history to life. Knowledgeable staff that link Emily Carr and her family’s past to who she became. Tours were by appointment and were well worthwhile. Gardens were great and it was interesting to see them linked with Emiliy’s quotes and paintings.

As Vancouver Island residents my wife and I had intended to visit Carr House for almost 15 years, finally making it on August 7th, 2021. The fascinating tour was superbly written and delivered by history student, Pascale Halliday, who also knew the answers to every question we asked. An excellent tour for art and literature lovers, as well as history buffs.

Unfortunately closed now

I've been to this home in years past but unfortunately it is closed to the public now. Not sure if it will ever reopen. Was able to walk onto property but parking is a real problem in the neighbourhood.

Hi! I'm sorry you came by when we were closed. Due to the pandemic we had reduced hours for a while but we are not closed to the public. We are, however, open by appointment only this season for health and safety reasons. Please go to the events page on our website to book an appointment at https://carrhouse.ca/events. You can also park at the site within the gates. I hope you make it back for a visit during our season!

Seeing the famous painters Emily Carr's childhood house was a delight, although it was only from the out side due to it being late.
It was nice to see an old fashioned house, still very well maintained.
The house is a National historic sight of Canada.
Even seeing it only from out side was great, as Emily Carr is a world famous Canadian artist..
Emily Carr had used this house in her writings & paintings.

The curator and team were all knowledgeable and approachable. It was a treat to be able to read books and wander in the rooms rather than viewing items from behind a rope barrier. Next stop? An art gallery to learn more!

Was closed on the day we visited

Even although the house was closed on the day we visited, it was still possible to walk around the house and read about the history of the house and about Emily Carr. We enjoyed our visit.

Walking the neighbourhood - came upon this historic home

Every time I walk the streets of Victoria’s mature, established downtown neighbourhood I am surprised when I just happen upon Emily Carr’s house ... it is a mature historic home that is still in keeping with many of the home in the area ... wander around, after walking along - above the ocean paths near Mile 0 ...

The house was closed when we arrived however we toured the beautiful gardens and read the signs outside. The preservation of the house is beautiful and it was really nice to see.
