10 ++ for everything! The owner is lovely, so much fun to talk to. He lives what he does and his products reflect that love. A little sign offers hot chocolate or hot cocoa. I've been drinking hot chocolate beverage most of my life and didn't know there was a difference. Master Chocolatier gave me a little education!!! The hot chocolate is some of the best I've ever had. He gave me a divine chocolate sample & I bought 2 pcs of artisanal chocolate. Don't miss this place if fine chocolate is your Achilles!

Still the best chocolate, ever. Artisanal chocolate by chocolatier who is present, delicious chocolates, great gift for friends and family; box of chocolates, and home-made ice cream. Excellent chocolate truffle ice-cream especially. Still the nicest treat in Montreal and just south of the Musée des Beaux-Arts, on Crescent street. Gracious, expert service, seats outside or do take-out and online orders/delivery in these special times.

Strolling southward on Crescent Street, I could not suppress a smile, then a chuckle. For I realized, I am a thrice-blessed man.
Firstly, I have been properly introduced to the marvels of the stars and our solar system. Secondly, I have recently listened to Stradivarius' Red Violin in person. And thirdly, I have sampled concoctions from the chocolate collection to be found at the Divine Chocolatier.
In a short space of time, I have experienced the epitome of visual, auditory, and gustatory delights.
One can contemplate the wonder of the stars so simply. Just step outside, find a spot ambient-light-free, and gaze upward. Imagine for a moment the immensity and magnitude. Then contemplate the dedication of those bringing us the truths and beauty to be found there: Kepler with his mathematics, Newton's profound apple, stalwart Galileo risking the stake for his discovery. Appreciation of truth and beauty often demands great sacrifice and risks.
Have you viewed the movie, "The Red Violin"? If not, by all means do so. Yet even this account falls so very short. How did this musical genius determine what grove, even which tree, to select for his instruments? What patience did it demand to produce any one of his masterpieces? And with what magic did he imbue this particular instrument to produce the notes it does? The present holder of the Red Violin has devoted two-and-a half decades to it with stunning results.
Two-and-a-half decades ago, Rich, the master chocolatier at Divine, had already invested twenty years of an apprenticeship "fencing the Unicorn" of fine chocolate. Consider that for one moment. How many artists do you know dedicating so much of their lives to one specific endeavor?
The results of such stewardship, like the views through a fine Newtonian telescope or the notes singing from the strings of a Stradivarius, are matchless. As the senses of sight and hearing can be thrilled, so too can your sense of taste.
Satisfaction of sorts may be attained through standard ingredients, rote recipies, and cellophane wrapping. True magic, ever elusive, can never be captured thus.
You citizens of Montreal, you happy visitors, you fortunate few, have upon your doorstep a unique strain of magic. Do not hesitate. The Divine Chocolatier is a treasure, one of Montreal's unheralded pearls, and one you must experience to appreciate. Enjoy, and, better still, share your magical discovery.

Visited this delightful chocolate shop after being recommended it by a local... best advice I’ve ever followed! My favourite was the ‘Mozart’, a trio combination of pralines and it most definitely lived up to its name. What a masterpiece!

The chocolate are somewhat fair; the shop is unpleasant, full of signs saying if you break it you buy it.
The owner is very unpleasant and the shop assistant is not better. I will be never go back.

I love just walking in this shop! The smell of chocolate just envelopes you.
I always go for the build your own box, but also got macarons this time too and they were so good too!

"Are You Going to San Francisco?" Yes, I'll confess, I'm a child of the 60's. We were seekers, every one. But what "Elusive Butterfly" did we seek?
And what had that to do with a visit to the Divine Chocolatier?
First, one must carefully work one's way past the inevitable group photographing the display window. Every season this display is artistically conceived and meticulously arranged. Now, with Ogilvy's surrendering their famous Christmas window, the Divine's seems all the more precious.
Next, down the curving steps to the shop, where a pull of the door announces your arrival with the jingle of antique bells.The shop is intimate. Nothing could be more distant from the noisy, seasonally-sprouting "mall-stalls".
Take your time. Deeply inhale the aroma. Study the stunning truffle display. Savor the sample that will be offered.
Those samples elicit smiles, from both sides of the counter. Conversations start. With luck, you will meet the shop owners, Rich and Jindy. These two conceive and concoct every exquisite "smile-making' chocolate there. You begin to think of the deserving people in your life, those you would love to light up with a delicacy so special.
Relax. Reflect. Life is good. Who could you share this little bit of joy with?
But originally....you were expecting a simple stop for a box of chocolate. But no, you've found the Divine Chocolatier. You didn't need to go to San Francisco. You will find "some gentle people there." People in the shop. People in your life. People who will love these chocolates.

i usally go here twice a year, but have not reviewed in awhile, that being said, every time i come here there are new creations to savor, there so good, take a bite , savor the flavour, and have another bite, these are not choclates, they are perfect creations, so good, andenjoy the hot choclate on a damp cold day, its heart and stomach warming

My daughter and I were the only customers in the store - any more and I might have felt claustrophobic. I guess I expected so much more with this being rated so high on things to do in Montreal. The prices did seem high and there was no artistry displayed on the chocolates. I am a huge fan of Norman Love in the states and there was no comparison. We were only offered a sample AFTER we purchased our chocolates.
