Great value for the cost, especially since my family was able to save twenty percent on admission since we are Malahat Skywalk members. The gardens seem to be well kept, workers everywhere tending to the plants and the animals, willing to have a chat. If possible, leave your jackets in the car, the gardens are hot! I would rather keep them in the car than hang them at the front, just a suggestion. You get to see all the life cycles of the butterfly, from eggs to caterpillars to cocoon to butterflies, it’s quite amazing to witness. I feel that, especially with young kids, I would try and do the Butterfly Gardens on a separate day than the Butchart Gardens. I think it would like a long day to do both and full enjoyment would not happen. The Butterfly Gardens are a must see when in Victoria!

It was less than $20 for a ticket so not sure what to expect but when we entered it was magical. Butterflies landed on me so that was great but there were macaws, turtles, flamingoes and koi. You are able to stay in as long as you want. Would recommend for families.

A truly magical place we really enjoyed, I would say almost on par with the amazing well known butterfly gardens located around the world:
- very helping older and super gorgeous receptionist (and my hello once again to her and her amazing lashes) detailing us where to go and see
- hard at work ants located near the reception area together with a few reptiles
- gorgeous butterflies in the main butterfly house, many large ones simply landing on you if you smell naturally sweet and have lively colours on you
- well thought arrangement with waterfalls and very happy tiny turtles, as well as pink flamingo, besides gorgeous plants and koi carp in the water
- several types of parrots, some friendlier than others, especially the green one (reminding me of the Ring neck parakeets I used to feed in Hyde Park in London, UK) who started paying attention and mimicking me in a matter of seconds: how clever is he!!!
- more tiny birds flying all directions and singing their happiness to their heart's content
- the entry fee is around 20 dollars, however groups of over 10 get discounts
- I would suspect at the weekend or summer time to be very busy

A great place to visit for anyone who enjoys tropical plants and animals. Butterflies everywhere you look, parrots and lizards roaming around the place, and a bunch of smaller enclosures with various, turtles and even a caiman! Fairly inexpensive, and a nice gift shop with a variety of unique souvenirs.

Our family loved it. We did not stay long as it was quite warm. I don't know if it would worth the full price, we had the Malahat Skywalk Pass which gave us 20% off.
Definitely a neat experience.

This attraction was lovely. So many butterflies and they were just freely flying around and nearly hitting you. There was parrots, flamingos, turtles and even a tarantula spider there. Lovely staff who told you everything about the place.

There are butterflies, parrots, turtles, tortoises, fish, poisonous frogs, a bird-eating spider, and at least one iguana, but the star was Mango the flamingo. It was great to get up close and observe how he spends his time.
It's worth spending an hour on the exhibit room, garden room, and gift shop, but you could easily get through in half an hour if pressed for time.

This place is absolutely spectacular. there are so many interesting species of birds, butterflies and other insects and reptiles. Along with Butchart Gardens, this is a place that you must go to if you are visiting Victoria.

I went with my class to butterfly gardens and they had an amazing experience. This is a great introduction to evolution units and explaining the diversity of the animal kingdom. They were thrilled to be there.

Question for the staff: Now that you've re-opened, what are the specific safeguards being taken to prevent infection via butterflies landing on so many different people(see reviews and pictures), or interaction with some of the exotic birds which have previously been allowed to be in direct contact with various tourists(see reviews and pictures)? The fauna which approach/land on people aren't really covered on their official website, and it's troubling that the staff could quickly answer trivial questions here in the past, but are so tight-lipped now. Also, will the owner and management of the Victoria Butterfly Gardens accept responsibility if there is a covid outbreak tied to them re-opening prematurely without sufficient precautions?

I have to fact check VicButterflyGrdns, if search terms like"flies vector covid" are used, there are several scientific articles on the first page alone suggesting that flies in fact can transmit covid as mechanical vectors. I uploaded a screenshot of one of the better ones so you don't have to just take my word for it, I suggest people read it and others, including "Mechanical Transmission of Turkey Coronavirus by Domestic Houseflies". As masks are not strictly mandatory at this business, and the interactive exhibits are not closed, the conditions for transmission are heightened. If a butterfly lands on someone's face, their legs can come into contact with virus through droplets or even mucus, and fly off to infect who knows how many people. We're not supposed to be touching our faces, but this is acceptable? If a housefly can serve as a life raft for covid, then a much larger butterfly is like a cruise ship. I'm certain that this business is unique in its hazards due to the "fly situation", and shouldn't just be treated like safer, more conventional attractions which are being re-opened.

Some important questions for the management: When the butterfly gardens re-opens, what is going to be done about the large bugs basically playing musical chairs with the faces of tourists from around the globe? Will you shut down those exhibits, or require people to use hand sanitizer on their faces before and after exposure? Also, how will you sanitize the parrots to keep them from potentially spreading germs from person to person? If you can't re-open with consideration for public safety, perhaps it's best to remain closed.

Your business has many tourists moving through it in tight crowds, and it seems impossible to properly clean some of the surfaces inside, what safety measures are the staff taking to prevent coronavirus from being spread at the Victoria Butterfly Gardens? If a sick person coughs/sneezes on the plants or animals, how do you sanitize them to protect your customers from infection?
Đã viết vào 1 tháng 3, 2020
You might want to put off going there for at least a few months. If you check their reviews and pictures, there are butterflies landing on people's faces, taking off, and re-landing on other people's faces, plus the employees and crowds of tourists come in direct contact with exotic birds and reptiles. Right now, this seems to be one of the worst places you could go if you or anyone you care about are elderly or have existing health issues. The city of Victoria might even be more responsible in temporarily closing the butterfly gardens to the public until the situation is better understood, especially after the deaths in neighbouring Washington state. Better safe than sorry.

Do federal bio containment laws cover seeds? If not, I took a screenshot of a forum(uploaded to my photos, check for it there) showing that seeds are produced and distributed from the Victoria Butterfly Gardens, will any more seeds of any kind be made available?

Can anyone buy or trade for any of the plants at the Victoria Butterfly Gardens from the staff? How about seeds, cuttings, or divisions?
Đã viết vào 17 tháng 10, 2019
Hi, Thank you for your message. Due to federal bio containment laws we are unable to remove anything from our gardens.
thanks!

Can you hold any of the bugs in the Insectarium?
Đã viết vào 25 tháng 3, 2019
Thank you for the inquiry. Great question! Due to Canada Food Inspection Agency laws, we are not allowed to open our display cases during operational hours in accordance to federal quarantine laws. Also, most of our insects are nocturnal and we would hate to awake them repeatedly throughout the day. Studies have shown that holding these amazing tropical creatures will shorten their longevity as our hands can have natural oils, soaps, lotions and other contaminates on them. It is actually very rare that our staff even hold the insects. All of our displays are however designed so our guests of all ages can get very close up and view these awesome animals at close distances.
Best,
Kurtis Herperger
Gardens Manager
