Excellent - go on open day, allow four hours

We went on the final open day of 2019 when many engines are running. Just so much to see, and as an engineer I loved the desmodromic Sunbeam engine and the paddle streamer engine as static displays, and the 15 or 20 engines that were running, and huffing puffing and banging. Cafe has drinks and snacks.

A wonderful day out

Been to the measuem a few times now but not for about 5 years or so I went today with my dad the amount that has changed was amazing they have a lot more running internal combustion engines the steam hall is now massive with around 10 running steam engines on steam days the staff/ vaulteeres were lovely kind and very very passionate and enthusiastic nothing was to much trouble very highly recommended to anyone with interest in historic machinery or for anyone wanting an interesting day out

Loved It this is an amazing place to visit if you love engines of all types

We only found this little gem by accident and it is a pleasure to spend time with such passionate and dedicated people
It is well worth a visit if you like industrial history,
The demonstrations are great and we could easily have stayed all day
A small and clean area serves drinks and confectionery etc
The only negative was we nearly missed the entrance
we will go back again

If you are interested in Engines THIS IS A MUST VISIT

The 2019 1000 engine Rally was cancelled but we decided to still head over and have a weekend visiting other items in the area. On Saturday lunchtime we arrived at The Anson Engine Museum,. It usually only opens Fridays and Sundays plus the odd special event.Its all run by volunteers and funded by donations.
The Engines on display are fantastic, some real rarities with many running, Steam Oil,Petrol Paraffin & Diesel. nice little cafe with tea and cakes.
Check opening times before visiting But if you are interested in engines and machinery the place is a MUST to visit.there is a small "Cinema" showing old film footage but Unfortunately We did not have time to visit that.
Although I missed the club Tent and stuff for sale at the 1000 engines,I actually enjoyed the museum more than looking round the field.
I cannot recommend it highly enough. All the people were friendly and the Engine guys had plenty of time to chat and answer questions

Absolutely amazing

What a fantastic find! Travelling on the Macclesfield Canal and just happened to stop. We spent over 3 hours and could have easily stayed longer. Will certainly come back when engines are in steam. The knowledge and enthusiasm of all the volunteers is impressive. There is everything from the first steam engines to the Deltic Diesel and loads more.
Hundreds of engines plus a working forge (though sadly not today!) and a Bodgers workshop complete with working pole lathes.
Can't recommend highly enough

Visited this museum today and what a wonderful surprise. For anyone in the area and particularly if you are interested in engines it is a must. Wonderful experience, my father worked for many years at mirrlees so it was extra good to see what I hAd heard so much about. There is also an amazing model landscape of Poynton, very detailed and interesting and made me realise all the pits etc and industry there was in Poynton. Well done to everyone of the wonderful volunteers.

Amazing place

If you have any interest in engines, engineering or the history of the countries development from the horse era this is the place for you. An astounding collection of steam and early oil and gas engines through diesel and petrol engines that powered machines and vehicles from the 1800's. We saw working steam and oil engines working as well as many other exhibits and a mine of information as well. My only grumble, a small one, is that although the cafe served good tea and coffee at a very reasonable price the selection of snacks was very limited.

Hidden gem - great day out

We were lucky enough to visit on a day when the museum was running its steam exhibits and craft demonstrations. We found the displays interesting, varied and well presented and the volunteers very friendly and helpful.

There is a small cafe with reasonably priced drinks and snacks and some souvenir and related gift items on sale.

Pleasantly surprised at just how good this place is, loads to look at, loads of running displays lots of info and really accommodating staff and volunteers, it says allow 2 hours but we were there more like 4 hours, very reasonable prices in the cafe.
A really nice day out.
