Arrived at opening time Saturday and thought 7 hours long enough to see everything but what a fool I was. In one day we saw Warrior which is fascinating and huge, Victory that while not sure how much is original but still an awesome sight and experience. Then on to Mary Rose and it is amazing what has survived and the stories around it. We did the submarine museum with HMS Alliance which must have been an experience in itself to have served on . Looked through a boathouse but that was Saturday. Went back Sunday to get through the Victory and Royal Navy museums plus HMS M.33.
If you near or curios make the time, take your time and enjoy. It’s a must attraction to visit and you will not be disappointed.

For my birthday this year I decided to fulfil one of my bucket list items and visit Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard, firstly to visit HMS Warrior which I've not seen since 1985 and then to see Victory and the Mary Rose.
I arrived at the Dockyard to be greeted by a kind gentleman at the door before moving into the reception building to check in and activate my ticket, then it was straight in to visit the sights.
I first boarded HMS Warrior to start my adventure and chat to the fantastic staff as I looked around, it was amazing to see it again and hear all about it's history.
Then it was in to the warehouses, shops, and a stop off in the bar for a birthday drink before going on a harbour tour this not only blew the cobwebs away but was great for learning about the harbour and harbour area. Again fantastic staff and commentary along the way.
Next HMS Victory, I was at first disheartened to see it clad in scaffolding and tarp but once I picked up my audio tour device and got my tour underway I realised that all the restoration work didn't hamper the visit at all and it was such a good experience.
Again, fantastic, knowledgeable staff helping to make the experience meaningful and magical.
Next was a visit to the cafe and the Mary Rose exhibition, food was great and the exhibition hot underway.
Nothing, nothing at all could have prepared me for this.
Sooo many artifacts, weapons, clothing, personal effects and human remains, all in a mind blowing state of preservation!
Items that people used, held, and wore, real people with real stories from the past.
Then across a walkway I got my first glimpse of the remains of the Mary Rose itself, wow, something to behold for sure!
Next was a 4D film depicting the discovery, logistical moving, and preservation of the ship in it's current location, then even more artifacts before moving up a level to see the breathtaking remains of the ship again and to chat with staff about the my experience.
I'm glad I left this till last as it proved to be quite emotional and I can't exactly explain why.
I left via one of the gift shops to pick up supplies before retiring to the hotel and digest the days adventures. I can't recommend the Historic Dockyard enough, whether you go as a group, a couple, or even on your own as I did, you never feel lonely when the staff are kind, friendly and welcoming as they are here, and I can't thank them enough for making my birthday a memorable one ♥

We had a day in Portsmouth and wish we had longer to go round the dockyard .
We started off on the Victory , Nelson’s flag ship and wow what an adventure it was . With the audio headset providing narratives it was like you were there , helped by having a route around the ship with was sign posted.
All I can say is that this must be visited if you are in town as this is real experience not to missed . The only downside is that if you are 6ft tall you will be stopping all the way round but worth it .
We then ventured to the Mary Rose , cannot believe that we have managed to raise the vessel and preserve it for future generations. A superb museum to house the exhibits with a cafe and gift shop . I think the pictures will show how good it is but my advice is to have a weekend down in Portsmouth and do the Spinnaker and dockyards me max out the opening hours .

This was the best visit ever you can look at each ship and collect stamps. You can even do harbor tours and have snacks but even you can be on a mailing list or three is a cafe

A fantastic historical visit. We stayed for 3 days and bought the 3 visit ticket, we did with we had paid a few pounds more and bought the unlimited ticket. We loved the submarine, I liked the mary rose but my boys really liked hms superior. The victory had a great audio tour but was under heavy restoration. My son attended a sail making workshop for the half term holidays. I'd recommend.

We just did a submarine tour in the submarine museum with Alan Jackson he was fascinating to listen to and with his experience brought us into the world of submarines. I can highly recommend this tour and it was the best one of the whole portsmouth historic dockyard. You have to get a ferry or waterboat across from the main area. Fabulous and will come again thanks Alan.

What an incredible place! Highlights for us were HMS Victory, Warrior and the Harbour Tour. We visited February half them and there was so much going on to keep the kids entertained. The Ultimate explorer ticket was, in my opinion, excellent value keeping us entertained for 2 full days. Staff were friendly and engaging, food in boathouse cafe was good although wish I’d seen the restaurant in Boathouse 4 earlier - save that one for the return visit…

Stay on one side of the river or the other. Don’t bank on getting the boat (free) across. You have to wait 30-40 mins outside, right by the water, in the freezing cold wind for ANY boat. Once across on the Gosport side, away from your car, you are stranded. The only way to get back is for the whole family to stand in the ice cold wind (and rain, if applicable) for the next boat. Although you have to book a (free) slot to board the submarine, they won’t allow slot-booking for the boat. Which is why there are tens of people shivering for three quarters of an hour each, at the dockside, waiting for their boat, throughout the day. Considering the amount you pay for the entry ticket, this is awful organisation.

What an amazing place so much to see The Warrior was just incredible such amazing history the Boathouse restaurant was fabulous amazing cakes / food with lovely friendly staff and stunning venue - we are so pleased bought yearly pass can’t wait to go back

visited with my family yesterday (14/02), spent the whole day there! Our stand out was the stoker on HMS Warrior. We met him in the boiler room and he was very funny and he certainly knew his stuff. He was absolutely amazing with my step daughter who is football mad! Explaing how the ship and orignal builders. Tie into the history of west ham and millwall. He never once broke character, no matter how much we tried to make him! Thank you for making our visits enjoyable, educational, relatable and being a general legend. Tho my 7 year old boy, now aspires to be stoker when he's older! We can not wait to return to do the things we ran out of time for!

We used the park and ride. The bus stop is very close to the entrance to the historic dockyard.

If you go on historic dockyard website, it gives you tge price of all the tickets. They do an ultimate family ticket with two adults plus 3 children for £120. The ticket is for a year so you dont have to see it all at once. It is cheaper to get it online than at the dockyard. If you are a veteran they do other tickets too which is even cheaper. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Lucy We are going to the Porstmouth next week. Did you find it easy getting your tickets online ? We are struggling getting our returner ID and therefore can't book all the attractions. Very frustrating. Are there staff members at each attraction ? They might be able to help if we are not successful by email.
also how long did you spend at each attraction.? The time they specify online are they quite realistic ?

As the Victorian Christmas Festival is on we become a closed site and our usual annual tickets are not valid over these special event days (29th November until 1st December). You will need to purchase a Victorian Christmas Festival ticket, which lasts for 1 day and includes the attractions on site. These are available on our website.
