This was our first visit to the Ashmolean - a treasure trove of many objects from across history. We thought taking the audio highlights tour would be a good introduction. In fact it was an awful experience. To start with just accessing the wi-fi meant putting in names and details and then it forced us to sign up to newsletters we did not want. Then we bought the tour for £3.60 each, downloading an app onto our mobile phones. The commentary is good - but where are the objects, and how do you find them? The app gives no indication which room each object is in. So we asked. 'Oh, go to the information desk and they will give you a map with the item locations listed.' Really? In fact the map fails in several ways. Firstly, it does not list all the objects on the audio tour. Secondly, it includes items not on the audio tour. We felt angry, frustrated, annoyed and downright cross. It ruined our visit. If anybody is listening, I'd like an apology and ideally a refund. SORT IT OUT!! This is a world class museum with a deficient audio guide. My advice to anybody is DON'T USE THE AUDIO GUIDE. You will regret it.

The collection was really amazing and very educational... we learn so much! My family enjoyed our visit to the Ashmolean Museum of Art so much.

Fascinating old museum, well presented artefacts from all over world. Plenty of places to sit and appreciate the paintings.
Smart restaurant on top floor with views over the rooftops and busy café in the basement with cafes and coffee etc.
There are free exhibitions as well as ones those to pay to see. Thoroughly enjoyed spending a full day there.
Place to leave coats in lockers £1 retained.
Look forward to visiting again.

Great Museum with wide range of items on display. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about all the displayed items and the context that makes them important. Only annoying this is a stand that seeks people's opinion of colonialism that contained some polarising comments.

Beautiful architecture from the outset. Easy enough to navigate through. Staff are friendly and happy to assist.

Amazing exhibits particularly the ancient Egyptian displays. So much to see and admire we only managed the ground floor for about an hour. Will definitely return to visit other floors - so awesome!

One of this country's best museums. Stunning exhibits everywhere. The 'new' building is a work of art on its own. Interesting for kids as well. A very nice expensive restaurant on the roof but a much more affordable Cafe style place downstairs. Every time I go I see something new. Why is it free? If they charged £5 it would surely be acceptable to most people. It would be a huge source of income for the place.

Very extensive collection. Very interesting egyptian, greek and roman exhibits from anicnet times, and a surprising collection from my own country India. This is free to enter, so please donate to support the effort.

Fabulous inspiring visit through history. Very informative and helpful staff who helped us find the Monet we wanted to see. The traffic in Oxford was a nightmare, use park and ride!

Not absolutely sure of opening times - but the usual sort of times I think? Open all year - but one floor was closed when we were there. I'm sure that there is a website.

Just noticed your question; have you travelled to Oxford yet? If not, the Randolph Hotel opposite the museum would be the obvious place to stay and central to the rest of the city and university areas (which overlap). The hotel has some history and featured in the film 'Shadowlands.'
