We had such a lovely visit to the house last Sunday. Visiting the homes/birthplaces of writers that we like is something we like to do on a regular basis but never have we felt so welcomed and relaxed as we we were on this visit. We were able to explore the house in complete freedom taking as much time as we wanted. We visited the house assuming that Swansea (or Wales) would be proud to show off the birthplace of an internationally loved and respected son - and keen to encourage pilgrims so were amazed to discover that the property has been restored and is open to visitors largely due to the determination and commitment of one man, Remarkably he will also give you an introductory talk and, if you book in advance, serve you tea and Welsh cakes in the Thomas's very own sitting room. Amazing! The whole house is very atmospheric - but particularly the very small room where Dylan at an early age sat and wrote many of the poems that made his name. It felt like a very special experience and we drove home feeling very happy. Why are you still thinking about it - just go!

This place is currently open Wednesdays and Sundays - we prebooked a self guided tour. There are lots of options available - self guided with and introduction is also available. You can add on tea and welsh cakes at the end (prebook). No restrictions and no time limit. Very very interesting and informative. You can also book to stay here and have afternoon tea/a dinner (prebook). Lots of choice - see the website.

What an amazing experience! I stayed 3 nights at THE DYLAN THOMAS BIRTHPLACE and loved it! Thank goodness (and Geoff) that this place was saved and put back together as Young Thomas left it in circa 1934. Truly a gift to the world of literature and DMT fans. I slept in Dylan's room and the vibe and spirit there were a palpable reminder of his inspirations. I loved being able to literally walk in his footsteps and occupy the same space - brings lots of context to his work and will continue to inspire my study of DMT and his words.
Getting there was a bit of a physical challenge - I was walking and backpacking my way through Wales - and the hill there is not to be under estimated! Don't forget to visit the nearby park and the lane next to the house (we would call that an alleyway in America) - there is a small path at the end of the lane that Young Thomas must have used many, many times.

The Dylan Thomas Birthplace surpassed my expectations. The house has been lovingly restored and furnished from memories and writings from Dylan and those who knew him. Each room has information on its uses and where it has featured in Dylan’s writing. We were able to roam around for as long as we wanted and the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable.
There’s also a little gift shop which was a nice touch. If you’re interested in Dylan Thomas, his birthplace is well worth a visit.

The restoration of Dylan Thomas' birthplace captures the atmosphere of the poet's era. We parked easily, right outside, and found the house surprisingly spacious. Guests gain a sense of family life in Dylan's youth. Literature in keeping with the academic and middle class environment abounds. Practically, there is good choice of sleeping options. The kitchen is true to the era with added touches for modern day guests. Uplands area offers a choice of eateries. We enjoyed our stay enough to return if in Swansea. Thank you to Geoff for being a gracious host and tour guide. Diann and John

The whole weekend was fantastic. Such a unique place to stay with a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Nothing was too much trouble, any questions or queries were answered almost instantly. Such a privilege to stay in an iconic house.

Mind-blowing to be allowed to stay in, and experience, the same space and places that shaped the greatest poet of all time (bar none!). Simply fascinating. Would highly recommend a stay here. Geoff, who rescued and restored this location (and his associates) are genuine torchbearers in the recognition and preservation of important heritage sites for future generations world-wide to enjoy. This, I heartily applaud. Stayed for 2 nights with family and would definitely return!

Amazing place to visit. Learned so much about Dylan Thomas and his time in Swansea. Incredible to think so much of his work was written in a tiny bedroom in this house. We paid to have the introductory talk with Geoff, who is also an incredible gentleman. Geoff has dedicating 20 years to saving Dylan's birthplace and curating the museum

We were lucky to be able to explore this fascinating house on a Sunday morning recently even though we hadn’t pre-booked. The talk was really interesting and we were allowed to take our time to wander through the rooms and get a real sense of how it was when Dylan Thomas lived there. I would highly recommend it.

The prices are on our web for overnight stays. On the drop down menu go to Accommodation then the link at the bottom of the page for availability They vary depending on the number of people in the party - we only let to one party at a time so you have the run of the whole house. Included in an overnight visit is a house tour and a basic continental breakfast

A bit worried that it is cold with no hot water or heating as suggested by a recent review. We would like to stay for a night possibly this weekend but we have an elderly relative with us.

I'm not sure how the previous review said that then house was cold with no hot water. There is a central heating boiler which also provides the hot water. There are gas 'coal' fires and lots of Welsh woollen blankets. We take you back to 1914 living but with modern conveniences

Hello, we used to run set tour times but we are now predominantly open from 10:30am-4:30pm. We do however, advise people to call ahead of their visit as the house is also used for other things such as self catering stays, dining experiences and other events in these instances a visit may not be possible or a specific time could be arranged.

Hello Anne, no we don't have a tea room, we do however, offer pre-booked afternoon teas, lunches and evening meals by prior arrangement. - The house is where Dylan was born, lived for 23 years and created a near two-thirds of material that made up his published works.

No, all of our lunches and dinners are by a pre-booked arrangement. Meals are then prepared and served in house. The menu consists of ingredients that are fresh and in season in the local area.
