It’s so refreshing to see a beautiful historical site such as this that has not been commercialised and made tacky. Apart from a few informative boards dotted around, the walls themselves are probably not much changed in the last century - even if their surroundings have !

Once you gain access to the wall, you’ll be rewarded with a nice circular walk affording vistas of the city and surrounding countryside. You can take exit routes and explore the neighborhoods, or just wander around and read the informative placards. The fortified wall is sturdy and surprisingly wide. Nice engineering job.

The walls are reputed to be one of the best preserved examples of a defensive wall fortification in Europe. It’s free to enter and easy to access at numerous points around the city. There are interesting views of the city and surrounding area and excellent information areas. I believe the circumference is about 1 mile but we spent over an hour absorbing the views and the information boards. A very enjoyable experience with the right weather.

This place doesn't require any entrance tickets, it's about walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. The historical center is pretty small, but it has really nice atmosphere. Right behind the old walls you can see the new buildings that quire disrupt the old nostalgic feeling, so I recommend to focus just on the historical center, if you go for it.
I liked that there were multiple information panels at various places that were providing some basic information about the history of the concrete place, its original purpose, and changes in that purpose by time.

We got a bus to Derry from Belfast Europa Bus Centre. It took a couple of hours and we arrived in Belfast and headed straight for the city walls. We spend an hour or so wondering around the walls and enjoying the views. Derry is really a beautiful place and the views from the city walls were a highlight.

Derry city is famous for its city walls and a visit to the city would not be complete without a walk around them. It does not take long as Derry is not a very big city. Definitely a must when you go to Derry!

Interesting facts all around these walls on little signs for you to read about the turbulent times , I didn’t go all around the walls as I did not have time , but had done previously on another occasion, if your not interested in the history which can become boring after a while , the views of the bog side will keep you interested, do dress accordingly as it can become quite windy at times and a umbrella would be a good idea too , good place to bring the dog for a walk as there is no traffic. I loved the canons that were placed over the walls facing the bog side and the remains of a large to tower that had been blow up by the IRA , yes a interesting walk on a nice day

Walking the Derry Walls is a wonderful experience and well worth a visit. We didn't choose to go on a tour but found lots of interesting information points at several places along the walls. A must do!!

You get great views around the city. The information boards are very good. There is a good amount of seating available.

Phillip was amazing! He took my husband and I on a walking tour and really made it a very informative and enjoyable trip. He was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend!

No, you can do it yourself. But it’s not expensive to do the tour and the guide provides valuable insights into the city’s history and difficult conflicts.

The walls encircle the centre of the city so there's no specific postcode. Foyleside Shopping Centre is adjacent to the walls on Orchard Street, postcode is BT48 6XY. There is parking in the Centre and this might be the easiest option if you're not familiar with the city. Safe journey, enjoy the Walls and a big welcome to Derry.
