Absolutely brilliant, one of the highlights of our trip and a must-see during any visit to Derry. It was exceptionally powerful and moving, beautifully curated with a mix of historical artifacts and multimedia. The staff we met were warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable.

Brilliant museum that is both extremely depressing and very uplifting. Definitely make the time to visit!

Having grown up in the UK during the troubles I had little notion of what really happened in Northern Ireland. This museum opened my eyes to the brutality of what unfolded for the people of Derry and the strength and courage of the families affected The exhibits are well curated and the interactive media is powerful and moving. It is a highly emotional experience but absolutely worth it. The staff are friendly and welcoming and on hand to offer help if needed. An excellent and thought provoking experience.

Brilliant museum, very informative and they have an interactive floor for kids. The lady on the desk was lovely as was the security guard. It was quite when we were there and the security guard set up the VR experience for my kids and guided them through it. Lovely people.

We managed to squeeze in a visit to the museum yesterday prior to flying home. This was luck as we had planned to visit on the Sunday, without checking opening hours, and only made Monday because our flight was delayed.
Anyway, thanks to John and the staff. (Sorry didn’t catch their names). We had done the walking tour with John McKinney on Saturday and found this to be hugely emotional.
After this we spoke to our BnB owner Helen Kennedy about going to the museum as well but she advised that it may be too much for one day. She was spot on.
The journey that the museum takes you through is heart and gut wrenching. We live about 150 miles away from Free Derry but despite being born less than 6 months after Bloody Sunday, didn’t really appreciate the oppression suffered at the hands of the British.
The stories of Free Derry and Bloody Sunday have to continue to be told. Oppression against fellow humans anywhere in the world is just evil.
Thanks to you and many others, the story of Derry remains current and hopefully we can educate and implement peace throughout the world as a result.
Thanks again, apologies for not expressing our gratitude after spending time in the museum In person, but we were struggling to speak with the emotion of what we had just seen. The video clips, pictures and exhibits really tell the story well.

The amount of detailed information and care into displaying them shows just how much dedication has been put into making the museum an informative, moving, and inspiring experience. It is definetly worth the fee - my bookworm self was very happy to see there were books to sell, too. In at all, a must go for all of us interested (and to those who ought to be!) in justice and civil rights movements worldwide.

As a student currently studying the conflict in Northern Ireland, I just had to come to Free Derry.
Walking in the footsteps of the Civil Rights demonstrators was a moving experience.
The museum curates the history and the artefacts associated with this bloody and defining chapter of Northern Irish history.
I was expecting the experience to be highly one-sided, but the museum's portrayal of events was balanced - I was impressed by that.

Learn first hand what the people of Derry had to experience while the world watched & only after years of protests & persistence did the truth finally emerge

Hi, For those who have visited the Museum and also taken one of the local Derry walking tours, do you recommend doing the outside walk first and then the Museum, or seeing the Museum first? I was wondering if there was a preference.

I would recommend doing the museum first then walking outside. That way you would have a better understanding of the different areas etc. it’s an awesome museum. Very powerful

The Derry Museum is a touching tribute to those that struggled and died for their cause. To the reviewer that took exception with Jesse Jackson opening the museum..,first, he was born in Greenville SC so calling him a "carpetbagger" is a misunderstanding of that phrase (as. a Southerner born and raised I would know), also, he has done an enourmous amount of work on behalf of civil rights so I'm pretty sure he's qualified tod open a civil rights museum.
Thank you for giving the World an opportunity to see an unvarnished truth through your eyes, artifacts and experience.

Here's a novel idea...check out their website. There is a link on their TripAdvisor page. There is a ton of info on their ACTUAL website. It's neat how that works.

Does the newly renovated museum have a cafe and gift shop--even just a little corner or something? Does it rent out rooms for use (lectures, etc.) I can't seem to find anything from the website.
Hello, our apologies for not seeing this question sooner.
We do stock a small array of Free Derry-inspired merchandise and a wide variety of books related to the conflict and civil rights within the museum's reception.
We also have a conference/reflective space upstairs which is available to visiting groups and can be hired for events, launches, discussions, etc. Hope this helps.
Thanks so much for supporting the work of the museum - we really appreciate it.
