4 th SOLD OUT show! Always a great place to bring my out of town friends and visitors! A great place to end the week and begin the weekend. Great local and national talent.

Having been to a long pub-to-pub round With my good friends in Our Norwegian beer Club, The Thirsty Camels, Bottle Cap was the last Place to visit this late Sunday night in October.
Another pub With superb selection of beers, even one that made me "homesick", from haandbryggeriet - a small brewery a short way from my hometown.
The atmosphere was really great in thes Nice localities, so we really enjoyed Our 45 minutes stay here as the "last stop" this pub-night!
Highly recommended pub!!

Just a word of advice for anyone wanting to visit - this bar is currently closed for refurbishment again. There's a notice up on the door saying they won't be open again until May.

Also their bottle shop which opened a couple of months ago on St Andrews Street hasn't been open for the last few weeks. When I passed it today all the stock was gone so I guess thats shut too.

Well an experience straight away. Modern open plan with lots of old worlde artifacts. Spacious and clean with the strangely amusing thing at the back! It turned out to be a dog (yes a dog) play area, featuring toysband a kennel. Strange. Its a former brew pub, the beers now being brewed in Balmedie, but who cares about that. The beers are sensational, the staff give advice if you require it. The only problem is the measures, you can either get a half pint on two thirds due to the strength. When you require food get a pizza, made to order, your speck. Overall very good and just 50 yards from the start of the beer triangle of six o north, brew spew and the Moorings (Krakatoa). Please vist, you will enjoy.

Visited here a few times as it does have a nice setting. However, every time the service has been extremely slow and not once with any kind of happiness or personality. Ordering anything other than those drinks on tap seems an enormous task to the staff, you feel like an inconvenience. If you don't want to serve cocktails then don't advertise them! Having watched for 5 mins whilst he made one, I was shocked to pay almost £8 for half a glass of liquid. The toilets were filthy and only 1 sink had a working tap. Fed up of waiting for this place to come good so won't be returning again.

I've been to Bottlecap with friends maybe half a dozen times since it opened in 2014 and have to say I have left disappointed on each and every occasion. The price of the drinks is a particular issue but I appreciate that there is a premium to be paid for craft and foreign beers. However, next door at 6 degrees north, you can get 2/3rds of a pint for £2.55 and Brewdog at the top of the street do pints for £4. Yet with even Bottlecap's own stuff selling at a minimum of £3.40 for 2/3rds, that's a minimum price of £5.10 a pint. For that price you would expect a unique selling point that warrants paying that premium with such good competition in close proximity. On the contrary, the service is woefully slow with only one or two bar staff often manning the bar, even at peak times. I've been in before where after a 20 minute wait, we have had to remind the barman to make our cocktails as he continued to serve others after taking our order. The shocking service and ludicrously priced 'cocktail' that was served to one of my colleagues for her leaving drinks last week is the sole reason I have joined tripadvisor, to leave this review. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of said cocktail but it must have been no more than 75ml of liquid, served in a tiny glass with no ice. The price? £7.95. Simply put, an absolute rip off. I kept coming back to Bottlecap once every few months in the hope that the teething problems of the new business had been sorted but I fear last week was probably my last visit. The only advantage of drinking here is you are virtually guaranteed to get a seat because anyone with more sense than money has chosen to drink elsewhere.

I had hoped to review the new refurbished Bottlecap Brewery but despite the hand modified time (in pencil) saying it would open at 7 last night we waited outside in the rain watching the uber hipster barmeister in flat cap & braces studiously ignore us. Only after 10 mins of this, some tapping on the window elicited a response resembling a semaphore signaller with St Vitus dance that we took to mean they would not be opening. Less time spent at the beard stylists and more time spent on customer communication classes would be a good idea.

Hi, Firstly I must say sorry for the lack of communication. I myself was present at the bar but was unaware that anyone was trying to get in. We were behind on where we wanted to be and unfortunately opened the doors slightly later than we planned to. We would love to see you back to give an updated review, can I ask that you email me or call and ask for me at the bar please, gordon@bottlecapbrewery.com 01224478080. Regards, Gordon

Craft beer bars! I love them!

Aberdeen has 4 excellent craft beer bars, they are all well funded, well furbished, well stocked and all have their own niche and own it!

6 Degrees North - "The Belgian Brewers of Scotland" who opened their own bar in Aberdeen and have a phenomenal bottle and rotating tap selection of imported European beers, concentrating on German/Belgian styles.

CASC - "Coffee Ale Scotch Cigars", there is an abundance of choice for all 4. Want a Fine Cigar to accompany your schooner of Paulaner Salvawith a Blacnoch 1991 chaser, then wash it all down with a freshly ground locally sourced syphon coffee? This is the place you can do it.

Brewdog - the venue which started the bar division of Scotland's most successful craft beer producer

The Moorings - Technically not a 'craft beer' pub but with 42 draught lines including world beers, cask ale and belgian/fruit beers not to be ignored! Also one of the best music venues in Aberdeen.

So, where does this leave Bottlecap? GOOD QUESTION!

Unlike the other bars, it's apparent when you step through the door that this as been done up on a budget. Instead of rustic exposed bricks, they have brick wallpaper. The 'rustic' wood the bar top is made of has swelled in the middle and is no longer flat, and has never been fixed. The on-site brewery looks like a makeshift office from a warehouse, and given the constant empty spaces on the blackboard outnumbering the full ones they obviously can't keep their lines stocked.

There are also a few careless touches like leaving an old palette with barley sacks constantly lying around, and the DJ booth (which is open side-on to the main floor) usually full of old boxes and rubbish. It all adds up and, at least on a subconscious level you *do* notice it all.

So you think, what's their niche? Well, going by the surroundings, I presumed the idea was to fill the budget niche of people who want craft beer but don't necessarily have the pennies. But one look at the blackboard soon disspells that idea. I think this place is even more expensive than average.

Then you look at their food menu, which is more substantial than the other craft beer pubs and reckon maybe that's their take?

Ok, so we ordered a pizza and you know what, it was brilliant! Actually, definitely the best pizza I've ever had in a pub. Great! A craft beer pub that does great food!

So we go back and try the curry deal. It was boggin. I mean, far worse than I've ever had from Wetherspoon's or even from Iceland. Watery and no flavour. Apparently 'homemade' - gah!

Thinking it just a fluke, we went back for some traditional greasy pub grub. I had the chillidog and my bf had the 'pizza burger'. The hotdog was one of those 'ye olde oak' hotdogs from a tin consisting of mostly brine and the chilli had no taste (perhaps tinned chilli too?). The pizza burger was ok where there was meat present but unfortunately it was mostly dough.

So it's not a good place to grab food either.

The bar staff aren't the best either. I think if you get the owner you're good but the guy that served me was more interested in telling me about his trip to the Tennents brewery than talking about craft beer, which doesn't look good in my opinion.

Every time I've visited it has been more and more empty, and I can see why. It has no identity, no niche, no selection, poor quality and variable staff.

I've heard that it has recently been taken over and is shut down for refurb, after only 1 year. Hopefully the new management will turn this place around but they have a reputation to fix now. So I wish them the very best - I really want this to be a place I want to visit. But if this change of ownership is just a tax dodge I won't be returning!

Hi there, Thanks for your honest feedback. Wow there is a lot to go on there! Firstly I would like to comment on the surroundings, we realised that the look and feel of the bar was not the best, cold and unwelcoming and as you are aware we did close for a few days to rectify that. I can assure you that or redecoration is not a tax dodge!? I would love it if you came back to us to see for yourself. We have not only worked hard to improve the look of the bar, but have spent time on staff training and working with suppliers to maintain a greater level and variety of amazing beers. With regards to our food offerings, I am aware that our consistency and quality of service was not always 100% as a result we have decided to only offer bar snacks for the time being. We hope to work on this over the next few weeks. Pizzas however I do agree with you are excellent! At the moment we have also pulled these, but will reintroduce soon (again with improvements, so if you liked them before...!). We would love to see you back with us soon. Feel free to get in touch with me directly -gordon@bottlecapbrewery.com or call on 01224478080 Again thanks, for the feedback, we always take note of what people say and will continue to make improvements. Regards, Gordon McRae

First of all not the most welcoming venue but added to that the majority of the staff seem to be students with no knowledge of craft beer or customer service so I ask "why hire them?" I'm assuming the chap I spoke to Gordon seemed to know his stuff but was constantly interrupted by a camp rude red haired man so we finished our drinks and left. I would suggest this bar to friends but only on quiet nights when the real staff are on

Compared to the recent string of craft and international based beer bars in Aberdeen, Bottlecap is terrible. The beers on offer are never great and I'm yet to find one of the breweries own that doesn't taste like dish water. The bar also serves cocktails which are good and reasonably priced, however when it's busy this means that it can be a 30 minute wait at the bar for a drink as they make them for each order, rather than have a dedicated mixer. It's main redeeming factor is that they serve pretty good, and fairly priced bar food.
