Scotland Street School was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903-1906. It is Charles Rennie Mackintosh stunning school building. The proportions of the building are beautiful, and the windows wonderfully illuminate the interior. Now as a museum, it tells the story of 100 years of education in Scotland, from the late 19th century to the late 20th century. Interesting to see classrooms from Victorian times. A very nice place to visit, especially for kids. The entry is free. The employees there are very knowledgeable and welcoming. If you like Charles Renee Mackintosh and are in Glasgow this is a must. Beautiful building and easy enough to get to by the metro.

For fans of Charles Rennie Mackintosh this is a must, the outside is jawbreakingly thrilling then you go inside. Its a school museum, so there will be lots of children there, but found peace and quiet whilst I walked around. There is a very high content of education as it was when the school opened until closing, lots of hand drawn plans to again wonder at. I love this building, its windows, walls, designs, gates, everything!!

Where do I start? The day was fab! The kids enjoyed the surroundings and even the museum which to me was a shock! Overall, everything was worth the travel and money! Will be returning next year. Bring on 2021

We have been to many similar places to the Scotland Street School Museum and we were disappointed following our visit to this one.

On arrival, we were not greeted by anyone despite there being a reception to the right hand side. There were no sign posts to explain where to go or what was within the site. A route through the museum could have easily been signposted to guide visitors.

We chose to do a self guided tour and there were information boards within particular rooms which were informative although it was difficult to work out which blank doors contained exhibition areas and which did not. We appeared to arrive shortly before a guided tour was beginning as many families were in the main area waiting.

For us, this lack of information and direction was all somewhat off putting and we decided to end our visit early.

Cold wet windy day!! Perfect trip to kill a couple of hours. Really took the wife and I back a few years to our childhood and primary days and the kids loved dressing up and seeing how school used to be (still should be some may say) excellent day out really good to see it still busy too!

Great visit for all from Grandparents to Schoolchildren to see how education has changed over the years. Younger people would not believe the difference from this school to the modern school

So glad to have access to a genuine Mackintosh masterpiece especially after the devastating loss of the School of Art. We need to protect what little we have left. Excellent use of the building with the highly educational museum, including dislays about Mackintosh and it is clearly used well by local community groups. Such a valuable asset that must be protected.

Quite a nostalgic visit, myself and three sisters went to Scotland street school when we stayed in shields road. That part of shields road no longer exists due to the M8 motorway. I only managed to primary two, but eldest sisters made it all the way through before it closed. One of which is in the photo that was the last one taken of the pupils. Such a beautiful building, not ashamed to say had so many emotions and memories flooding back. Took lots of pictures of the aerial shots as they showed what the area used to look like and where we stayed. Highly recommended this for a couple of hours. A great Glasgow gem, one of many in our fabulous city. Mind get your free parking ticket from the museum I'f you park in the subway zone.

Visited Scotland Street School Museum with our 6 year old daughter primarily due to her having a school topic on schools in the past. We only planned a quick visit on a very rainy day but ended up spending hours there. It’s a beautiful Mackintosh building which is an attraction in itself, but combined with the original fixtures and fittings of school classes from Victorian era through to 50s it’s a great place to explore. I was surprised how much our daughter enjoyed it and she didn’t want to leave in the end. The real teacher and classroom experience provided by the talented Miss Baxter was a real treat. Special mention also to the staff who spent loads of time showing us the various toys and games of the era. Highly recommend

Loved this museum, very easy to get around, plenty of information in each room. Staff very helpful and friendly. The museum has a lift to all the floors. Will definitely return either at the weekend
or school holidays because a couple of rooms were being used for school visit the day I went but this was not a problem will be quite happy to go again.
