Are you able to visit the Clava Cairns any time of the day or is there an opening time? We are planning to get the bus around 7.30am from Inverness and walk from Culloden Battlefield (which we will visit on the way back).

You can. There is just a gate from the parking area to the sight itself and there is no lock 😉.

My husband and I are visiting Edinburgh and Inverness in Sept. and want to visit Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns on a day trip from Inverness. I'm having trouble finding a tour available for the days we are there so public bus seems our only way to get there. I see that a bus goes to Culloden but is there any bus to Clava Cairns or between the two?

We made that trip yesterday. There is no bus from Culloden to clava Cairns. We could not find any Ubers out there either. However, if you are in reasonably good shape, it is a 1.5 walk down a country road. The view on the road was absolutely spectacular. There are tours that go to both places; however, the one that we encountered only stops at Culloden for about 50 minutes -- not really enough time. They also discouraged visiting the visitor center, which I would say is a must. They do charge a great the visitor center but it's well worth it. You can take the number 5 bus from Inverness to Culloden Battlefield. We were booked for a tour that got cancelled. The bus will cost you less than 5 pounds round trip.

How long should we expect to spend at Clava Cairns? Thinking about visiting Clava Cairns from 8am to 9am then head to Culloden Moor which opens at 9am. Would this plan work? We are going mid June.
