We had been planning to come here for over a year, after a postponed NC500 road trip last year. It was well worth the wait! From the moment we walked through the door we were welcomed by the incredibly warm and friendly staff. The little cafe is tastefully decorated and cosy. They even have a window at the back of the cafe into the clootie dumpling preparation area, so you can watch them being made - which was a really nice touch. We ordered the Clootie dumpling sharing platter which was completely scrumptious. We tried 4 different flavours of their homemade clootie dumplings and each was unique and completely delicious. Their individual flavours e.g the cherry, date, and lindores aqua vitae or the Apple, pear and cinnamon really came through for each one. Coming to the end of our NC500 trip we have made many memories but this will be one of the most memorable. Thanks again to all the staff at Clootie McToot!

As a local in the village I've always supported Clootie as that is 100% the right thing to do but it's becoming more and more difficult to do so, it's now closed one extra day a week,hot food used to be 4 days a week, then two now non at all.
We all know overheads are becoming harder for owners but in a very short space of time there has been four increases in prices for coffee and is now at a price that I'm not sure is 'fair', that coupled with a period where you were given a takeaway cup even whilst sitttng inside it makes it difficult visit and enjoy.
That said, the front of house staff,product, dog friendlyness and whole ethos of the business is great.
I'm sorry,but honestly in reviews must prevail. ☹️

We made the decision early 2022 to close on Wednesdays . Financially it was a quieter day and this enabled us to increase production and build up pallets for collection and dispatching.
Menu prices have just increase a couple of weeks ago second time this year unfortunately ( on some menu items) . As like every wee business Staffing costs, water costs, electricity costs , Ingredients costs have forced us to do so . I can only apologise for this .
You are absolutely correct regarding the takeaway cups . Rather than closing for a period of time for building works we gave people the opportunity to have their drinks in takeaway cups and sit in . We had to think outside to the box to keep our wee business running and staff employed. Thankfully we are back into our crockery again , tray bakes and scones being made everyday with our scrumptious clootie dumplings being made 5-6 days a week. We plan on a full savoury menu next year and pop restaurants later this year .
We appreciate your support, we hope you continue to visit and thank you for your feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to Clootie McToot HQ 🤗😊

Lovely little cafe where you can sample a range of authentic Scottish dumplings. Very very tasty and comforting. The coffee was also superb.

Not many seats (8) but a lovely wee place with comforting wood burning fire. The cafe area looks into the kitchen where they make the clootie dumplings.
The lady serving also looks after the shop area and was very welcoming and friendly.
Fortunately we were only after coffee and cake as there was no hot food available (we didn't arrive until after 3pm). There was a decent selection of scones and traybakes available. I had a pina colada scone abd my wife opted for a fruit scone. The scones were warmed and came with butter and blackcurrant jam, both were a decent size and tasted delicious. The pina colada scone had pineapple and coconut, first time I had this combination and I highly recommend them.
The coffees were piping hot and came in good sized mugs with some small pieces of fudge which also was delicious.
If you are in this area, definitely pay a visit.

I immediately loved that Clootie HQ is in an old traditional building and not a large soul less factory. As soon as you enter there is a warm, welcoming vibe. Everything is bright and homely. The aromas are amazing as is the viewing kitchen. Staff are so helpful and friendly. We drove the 106 mile round trip from home specifically for brunch and were not disappointed. I had already sampled the dumplings as my hubby ordered me some online. My firm favourite is still the traditional recipe. We had brunch then I had Jumbo serving of traditional dumpling. A wee bit later I had another piece of dumpling (plum and gin) with a lovely pot of tea. We then carried out dumplings to take home. We will definitely return as we regularly go to the Highlands on campervan trips so this will be a good stop off point on our travels. I love clootie dumpling and this is some of the best I've had. Would highly recommend a visit or order online! Delicious!

Absolutely delightful place! We will definitely be back!! Lovely atmosphere, super helpful staff and the food was amazing. We can certainly recommend the haggis and cheese potatoes and the butternut squash soup. We had so much choice for clootie dumplings we decided on a platter which was a taste of 4 different dumplings, incredible!! Great that you can bring a dog downstairs, lots of gluten free options and loved the gift shop! Thank you.

We visited Clootie’s today for the first time after seeing the reviews and were not disappointed! The lunch options all sounded yummy and we really enjoyed the huge bowl of homemade soup, cheese n haggis toastie and of course slice of dumpling! The cafe is lovely and cosy and all the staff super friendly and welcome! The gift shops has lovely treats and of course dumpling to take home. Looking forward to coming back soon!

Lovely cafe with great food and a very warm welcome. Too many nice things in the gift shop! I have been buying Clootie McToot Dumplings for a few years now (saves me having to make them) so it was lovely to visit the Cafe and shop.

Clootie mctoot is a lovely wee café. Gorgeous décor and a glass window kitchen which shows the magic being made. There were two servers on which seemed substantial for the amount of customers that were inside. The only negative statement for me to make about this café is the lady that served us initially. She was a short and stubby lady with no manners and an obvious lack in customer service skills. My wife and I had travelled far to try this café as we had heard so much about it from my sister-in-law, and it’s safe to say we were let down by the staff who we had heard such good things about. The other server whom I noted to be named Kyle was shy and timid but seemed to have far more customer service skills for a man so young. He is a true credit to your staff. Overall, a lovely visit, however we will not be returning to Clootie Mctoot Dumplings.
