This series of buildings was a functioning hospital for the poor and then for all area residents for hundreds of years until late in the 1900s. The buildings are beautiful and worth a visit just for the architecture. The rooms have been well preserved to give an idea of the conditions and the work of the nuns who staffed the hospital. A tour with a knowledgeable guide makes the tour much more meaningful given the long and important history of this institution.

Très intéressant à faire. L’architecture du bâtiment est belle à contempler. La visite est très sympathique grâce à l’appareil audio qui nous est fourni. Cela nous permet une véritable immersion dans l’histoire du lieu.

You need time to take this visit. My wife and I found it fascinating to think it had been operating for something like 500 years and actually ended its operational activities as late as 1988, I think it was.
I cannot do it justice in a review so I will simply say that it is well worth a visit if you like history and have an interest in social affairs and the French way of life.
You can get a leaflet about the hospice but most of the descriptions of exhibits are in French.

There are good reasons why this ancient former hospital is Beaune's top visitor attraction. The large building complex is well preserved and the exhibits convey the sense not only of medical care (two-tiered, by the way) in the old times but also educate the visitor about the development of medicine.

Visite guidé réservée et payée (site sécurisé) par Internet.
La réservation est indispensable.
Guide très professionnelle, visite très intéressante : on peut refaire un tour après pour compléter les informations.
Beaucoup de visiteurs, même en septembre.

Au cœur de Beaune, reconnaissable à ces magnifiques toits en mosaïques de tuiles vernissées, les hospices sont un incontournables pour qui aime l’architecture.
Seul bémol : c’est une usine à touristes ce qui gâche un peu le plaisir de la visite
In the heart of Beaune, easily identified by its magnificent glazed tile mosaic roofs, the hospices are a must-see for anyone who loves architecture.
The only downside: it's a tourist factory, which spoils the pleasure of the visit a little.

We spent a very enjoyable couple of hours exploring this former hospital which was dedicated to the people of Beaune.
As a retired nurse I found the exhibits and history of the buildings fascinating.
Although the last hospital patient was discharged in the eighties I found myself gazing into the grounds of what looked like a very much occupied and peaceful residential/nursing home - separated from the Hospices herb/medicinal garden by a beautiful wrought iron - very poignant.

No lo sé con seguridad, pero se trata de un museo y por lo tanto no creo que los acepten, salvo condiciones especiales.
Puedes preguntar directamente al lugar.
Merece la pena la visita.

Bonjour. On vous fourni un audioguide à l'entrée et il y a une trentaine de points d'écoute avec un commentaire et un option facultative. je pense qu'il faut compter 1h30 pour une visite "normale" et 2h00 si on approfondit avec les explications supplémentaires.

Hi, is it possible to see the outside building without paying a ticket? I have no time for visiting, but the pictures are so beautiful, so I would like to view the beautiful decorate roofs.

Yes, this is possible by walking through the City. But this shows you nothing extraordinary or spectacular thing: only a Long wall with someone simple gothic windows. You can see all this although on Google Earth Streetview. The Rolfs are inside at a courtyard, which are only to Visite with a ticket.

We would like to visit on a Monday morning in July. Is it possible to turn up without a ticket? We would prefer to not have to queue, so is it better to buy tickets in advance and where do you buy the tickets please?

Hi, you can buy the tickets on the official tourism website of the city Beaune.
Additionally you can also walk in the tourism office downtown in person and buy the tickets from there.
You will still have to show your ticket for scanning purposes at the entrance.
