The outerior is stunning with a Greek style. The museum has a great collection of ancient items from Greek and Roman times. It is worth visiting.

This museum has a fantastic collection of Greco-Roman cults. Access is quite easy by metro. I recommend arriving early in the morning, when the interior space is with few people and becomes easy to move around

The problem, with many high-level museums - and this indisputably is - is always the same: very rich collections, in this case of antiquities, well commented and placed, that follow one another for rooms, halls, rooms and then more rooms, until forcing the visitor who does not have a truly manic passion - and just as much expertise - for the exposed genre to have to choose between two options: exhaust themselves and be kicked out of the janitors at closing time or start to go straight at an increasingly rapid pace to reach the exit. Again, the question arose to me: I began with the utmost attention to enjoy the rooms dedicated to the Etruscans, then the Roman period began and, little by little, the fatigue, first of all psychic, made itself felt. Just as it happened in the plan dedicated to Hellenic civilization. It would have taken 4-5 hours to repeat yesterday's exploit at the Neues Museum, but we had much more to see and settled for half. A shame? Maybe. But inevitable, as it is to make a stop here during a trip to Berlin.

Considering the destruction heaped upon the German capital during World War Two this fascinating city still processes many fine looking buildings many of which were painstakingly rebuilt post war, one building that I always look forward to visiting is Alte Museum, one of the landmark buildings of the city.
Altes Museum ( Old Museum ) was constructed between 1825-1830 and built from designs from architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel in a style of architecture known as German Neoclassical, viewed from Lustgarten you can take in the sheer beauty of this building that very impressive, very photogenic, its most definitely well worth checking out if you're walking around Museum Island.

Unreal experience seeing household items made thousands of years ago, things that I recognized and could have used myself. Plus the artistry of the statuary - it was overwhelming. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a museum for those interested in Greek, Roman and Etruscan art and history. If you’re not at all interested or open to learning about it, then skip this museum. But if you are interested or open to it, then this would be a great introduction to these ancient worlds. It’s not a large museum. Very focused and has a very simple, clear sequence/route of rooms all on two floors that circle an impressive (but mostly decorative) rotunda. The installations of artifacts and artwork are all nicely spaced out and handsomely presented. German and well-translated English texts sit equally side-by-side. I recommend stopping now and then to really read (or listen in the audio guide) to some of the stories behind or depicted in the pieces. These stories really bring things to life in entertaining and sometimes horrifying ways.
There is a small cafe with minimal food options. The audio guide is useful if you don’t want to spend a lot of time reading the room and item descriptions.
For those interested in the naughtier bits of ancient history and art, the “Garden of Delights” room offers a collection of items more overtly sexually-oriented. All of it thoughtfully presented. But let’s see you try to keep a straight face when you spot the flying phallus with feet and a tail.

This museum is fine if you're interested in Greek history and mythology but its repetitive and the atmosphere is terrible. Reception was lovely and made no mention of my attire. Once inside the first room I was approached by security and told I need to hand my jumper up which was tied around my waist to the front desk. When I asked why I was told "it's too big" (what?), and was asked why I would need that, to which I explained "in case I get cold" and was told I wouldn't get cold (I repeat, what?). They allowed me to continue forward with it but the security immediately started speaking over the radio and from that point foward I was followed the entire way through. There was almost never a point that a security staff was further than 2 metres from me. All of the small items are locked in glass cabinets so I really don't understand this approach, are they expecting people to walk out with a 100kg marble bust hidden in a pocket? Beyond that when I made use of the security what wouldn't leave me alone and asked where the bathroom was they pointed. No words. I double checked that he was directing me toward the bathroom I was yelled at "Yes! Toilet!" But later saw people attending the exhibition be told to be quiet when speaking softly to eachother and someone at the door being refused entry they handed over or threw out an unopened water bottle. Wouldn't waste your time here. This has been the worst museum I've attended in Berlin.

Great collection of Roman, Greek and Etruscan art in a beautiful building, on the island of museums. It overlooks a square where there is also the Cathedral and has very good pieces that are seen in spacious and well prepared rooms. Good cloakroom service and small museum shop in the inner circular courtyard. It’s worth it because it doesn’t take long to see, and also enter the Museum Pass Berlin. When I went there was a special exhibition about women in history, giving preponderance to female statues and raising very interesting questions about women artists (unknown those of that time) and how women are seen today, I found it a very brave and necessary collection, from museums it is also educated

We spent an afternoon here looking at the Greek and Roman exhibits and especially the Etruscan pieces on the first floor. There are definitely some highlights but otherwise a lot of repetition. I thought it wasn't great value at 12 Euros. We had some coffee and cake at the small basic cafe which was nice.

It must be believed that we did not choose the right time, during our visit all the museums were closed for work or on an exceptional basis. Altes Muséeus is huge from the outside, we hope to be able to come back and visit it.

No but they have a coat check that take them and staff only have access to this area (so it's safe).
