When you arrive at airport catch a train in to the city. A ''Red Bus'' tour originates opposite the station. If you have luggage there is storage at the station. The tour is the best city tour I have taken in Europe and takes you past everything Duseldorf has to offer. It is only about 15 Euros and well worth it. I have written it up on Tripadvisor. This is a very contrasting city as far as architecture goes and it is worth taking this hop on hop off trip before you make plans for your 3 day stay. I am not aware of airport hotels but I am sure Tripadvisors or Hotel. com sites will help you out with location and price.

Hello Prices for Gluwein vary. They charge a deposit on the glass or mug which you can keep. It depends on the quality of the mug some are attractive but others very touristy. The average 3€ for gluwein plus €5 deposit. Beer around €5

We stayed in Hilden, Dusseldorf....took the train out there, like a sub-burb. Stayed at the Amber Hotel. It's a small chain. Very clean & reliable. Restaurant on site. I think it was 3 floors. Not sure about B & B's. Parts of Dusseldorf were kind of scary. It was very hard to find anyone who spoke English. Dusseldorf is pretty industrial not touristy, we used the city for a meeting point, to meet family who were already travelling in Germany to go to Alsace to trace our family tree. Alstadt was only a couple of blocks down from the hotel and a nice area, all the restaurants and bars opened up into a large courtyard with open air seating/tables shade very pretty, nice shops that close early compared to usa. On our way back we stayed literally across the large divided street from the Amber Hotel and it was like another world...we didn't sleep a wink! There was a hookah lounge in our lobby......

all shops are closed unless it is a special trading sunday , there is one in november but not sure of the date , some cafe and coffee shops are open but most bars and restaurants are open

Schumacher or Schüssel. Both are on the main street , Bolker strasse. not hard to miss. if arriving by u-bahn or taxi. you arrive on heinrich heine allee. bolker strasse runs onto that allee.
