You can explore the Rhine Valley in different ways - by boat, big steamers, tiny ferries (Fahre), trains, bikes or car. We explored by boat and took the most scenic one hour cruise (each way) - from Bacharach to St.Goar. Sat on the boat's top deck and enjoyed the parade of castles, towns, villages, boats and many vineyards. Two boat companies take travelers along this stretch of the Rhine. Boats run daily in both directions from April through October, with only one boat running off-season. Purchase ticket at the dock up to 20 minutes before departure. During the cruise you can order a meal, drinks, so if you have the earliest boat - enjoy your breakfast on the open deck.
During a cruise you will notice large black-and-white kilometer markers along the riverbank. They tell the distance from the Rhine Falls, where the Rhine leaves Switzerland and becomes navigable.
And of course, the best part of any cruise whatever you choose it will be the cascade of castles on the hills. Most Rhine castles date from the 11th, 12th,and 13th centuries. Enjoy!!

La Vallée du Rhin romantique est intimement liée à l'histoire et aux légendes. Elle a eu une influence certaine sur les écrivains, compositeurs et artistes. De superbes villages viticoles, des châteaux historiques et autres sites se succèdent sans temps mort sur cette partie de la vallée du Rhin entre Rüdesheim et Coblence. Pas étonnant que cette vallée a été inscrite au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO!

Was eager to visit Rhineland-Palatinate due to its special relationship with my home land Rwanda. Upon arriving here, the Rhine Valley was great to explore. Castles, great views and hills were great to experience

Das Rheintal ist sehr schön und daher ja auch UNESCO-Welterbe. Leider merkt man dies auch in der örtlichen Preisgestaltung. Vom Nepp bis zum Wein - alles ist hier recht hochpreisig. Aber in Zeiten von Corona ist dies ein ideales Fleckchen, wenn man nicht fliegen will.

Each trip to the Rhine Valley requires a KD cruise. Depending upon choice of locations, the trip is amazing. You can hop on and off at your discretion and enjoy the many amazing small villages. Definitely drop off in Bacharach and Rheudesheim. They are memorable stop. Others are also worth the time. You get to enjoy the scenery, history and many castles of the Rhine. And the price is right.

Travelled on my own from South Wales with Edwards Tour Coaches Company. Joined coach at Swansea, over Ferry from Dover to Calaid. Overnight stay at Belgium and joined river boat at Colgne. Fantastic scenery and relaxation on the boat for 3 days, before returning back to South Wales. Thoroughly enjoyed and would do it again.

The cruise along the Middle Rhine River was the highlight and one of the reasons why we joined our first river cruise with the Viking River Cruises. The cruise along this part of the Rhine River did not disappoint and it was all worth it. Castles, vineyards, churches and quaint villages constantly appear along this magical river cruise.

Une très belle vallée où se succèdent les châteaux et les villages pittoresques.
Nous l avons parcourus en voiture en prenant le bac juste avant la loreley ( 6 euros le passage pour 2 en voiture)
Ne pas hésiter de monter au belvédère de la loreley.
Très industriel par endroits

Sorry, don't know. We were travelling in a north-westerly direction along the River Rhine upto a little beyond Loreley & did not go up to the Rhine Valley Gorge.

hi all charges on the boat are payable on the final night you can pay by credit card but not American Express we paid by euros you also get an envelope to pop your tip money for the week we gave the maximum as we thought the staff made the holiday

I was reading about your info you posted about driving along the rhine and making stops along the way, where was your stay over place. We reserved a place in Rudesheim for 1 night in early June and wanted to drive along the Rhine and stop and get out to see the castles and landmarks on our our time. Do you think a hotel is Rudesheim is a good spot to stay or should we stay a little further up Rhine? Also what do you think about the ferry going up the Rhine as far as Castle Liebenstein? We are thinking to drive along the river and stop as we want.

Rüdesheim is a small town but perfect for one night. I cruised the Rhine gorge on a cruise ship and wished I could be driving it instead. A 3 hour cruise is not a bad idea but the villages look so quaint as you pass that you will probably wish you had driven too. If you want to stop and really see these towns, I would go by car and take your time. The views of the castles and churches will be closer and you can always shoot pictures of the opposite bank. The best views are high up looking down at the gorge. If you see a road that goes up - I would explore it!

I'm considering a Rhine Valley river cruise in Sept or Oct 2018. My only experience has been with Grand Circle. I would like an 8 to 12 day cruise. I'll be traveling with a friend so we would share a room with twin bed accommodations. I'm very interested in hearing about excursions/tours that are INCLUDED in the price of the trip.
