I wasn’t originally planning on going, but decided to check it out in the afternoon. it was only €3 entry, and there was an audio guide app you could download on your phone (bring headphones!), and i ended up spending over 3.5 hours here until my phone died! absolutely fascinating museum - as others have said, can be a little confusing to follow, but i did the guided audio option on the app and it took me through the highlights of each exhibit (follow the headphone sign with the numbers). Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Madrid and have a few hours to spare.

Come learn about the oirgin of spaniards, its inhabitntants throughout the ages, and discover magnificent ancient pieces of work that look brand new.

Unbelievable. Was more than we were expecting. Took about 2-3 hours to go through. Amazing pieces. Well put together. Very very impressive collection of world artifacts. The Egyptian exhibit was stunning along with the Greek exhibit. Entrance was 3 dollars. Place to store bags. Honestly it was a highlight of Spain.

Museo fácil de recorrer y muy bien ubicado. Lamentablemente varias salas estaban cerradas y la mayoría de los objetos que se exponen parecen ser reproducciones y no objetos verdaderos (al menos es la impresion que tengo de muchas de las piezas expuestas). Visita rapída

Este museo es una maravilla, un viaje en el tiempo que arranca con objetos y tallas prehistóricas y nos va llevando de la mano por las distintas creaciones del hombre a través de la historia. En este mes de mayo, la sala superior de arte egipcio y griego estaba cerrada lamentablemente. Pero aún así, merece la pena ser visitado. Muy recomendable.

Una de las visitas más agradables e instructivas que hice en Madrid fue visitar este hermoso Museo, que además de contar con unas modernas instalaciones, dentro de un bello edificio histórico. Las colecciones están planteadas de manera que se hace sencillo hacer un recorrido y permite a su vez decidir entre hacer una visita rápida de un par de horas al menos, hasta una visita a profundidad. Estuvimos aproximadamente tres horas, viendo las piezas con calma -usando la audioguía que se instala en el teléfono por medio de una app- y la pasamos muy bien, aprendiendo de culturas que no se ven tanto, en otros museos. Algunas partes estaban cerradas cuando fuimos, pero no fue obstáculo para disfrutar la experiencia. La tienda es pequeña, pero se encuentran bastantes cosas.

I would preface this by saying, "may not be for everyone". But I loved it.
I'm not sure how much in the exhibits was original artifacts vs. reconstructions--if they were originals, it's impressive. There is a video at the beginning that takes you from prehistory in Spain through now--this is only my second trip to Spain, so I wasn't aware of the very early human occupation of the Iberian peninsula, or the may influences on the Peninsula from various outside areas.
I found the exhibits well laid out. The Roman part of the museum was particularly good--surprising # of mosaics from Navarre, and a beautiful atrium layout of Roman sculptures and artifacts.
I had trouble using the museum's app--I tried to download it, but every time I tried to play a selection, it would act like I never told it to download, so I finally gave up. However, their were plenty of written explanations in both Spanish and English, so I went with that. I wouldn't bother with the app. there were no audioguides available when we were there.

This museum is worth a visit when you’re in Madrid. It explains how Spain evolved through the ages, from prehistoric to Roman to more recent times. Some of the objects are simply stunning. Especially the golden objects, jewellery, candle sticks and other. The second floor was closed so we couldn’t visit. But we enjoyed the other parts of the museum.

At the entrance to the security gate, there is a staff member asking do you interested in archaeology? Want kind of archaeology you are looking for? I can not answer these questions, so I was not allow to enter the museum, that is quit disappointed.

Si consideramos que conviene destacar que no es lo mismo valor que precio, debemos convenir que el valor de la entrada es grande, pues en una visita de un día podremos realizar un panorama histórico inigualable. Si hablamos del precio, en la pagina web del MAN obtendrá información sobre tarifas y posibles descuentos. Solo recordarle que sábado tarde y domingo por la mañana es, gratis. Ojalá disfrute de su valiosa visita.

The placards at each exhibit are in multiple languages, including English. We didn’t seek audio guides, so don’t know if they are available for sure. It is a terrific facility.

Hi Roy. Yes, there are lockers in the MAN usually for coats and handbags. There are no lockers to leave things there, only during your visit time. Usually they are for free and I do believe they could keep yours during your visit.

Hay menú, pero nada que no sea para comer en 20 minutos, salir del paso y seguir visitando.
Abundó en la opinión de Juan Antonio: una de las mejores opciones es el Café Gijón. La comida es buena y no es cara; el pase hasta allí agradable, si se dispone de tiempo.

Dear Mommies,
It is very easy, there is the Subway an exit COLON or take Cercanias that is another railway system and exit RECOLETOS.
Any way, if you google map it it will show you a map with directions and way to get there by foot, bus or Subway.
