Nella piazza IV Novembre, troviamo un capolavoro di scultura medievale.
La fontana è stata realizzata nel 1278, collaborazione di diverse persone di cui Giovanni e Nicola Pisano.
La fontana è stata realizzata per poter far arrivare l’acqua in città, grazie all’acquedotto che l’alimentava.
Ancora oggi è possibile ammirarla, visto le buone condizioni, anche dopo tutto questo tempo.

Posta in piazza IV°Novembre, la Fontana Maggiore ha visto passare molte epoche mantenendo inalterato il proprio fascino dal 1275. Celebrativa dell'arrivo dell'acqua dall'acquedotto, è composta da bassorilievi (alcuni originali, altri in copia) in pannelli, che descrivono i mesi dell'anno con i simboli zodiacali, rappresentati insieme alle arti liberali , come la Grammatica e la dialettica, poi la retorica e l'aritmetica....super-interessante!

Bellissima fontana simbolo della città è posta al centro della piazza principale di fronte al Duomo. Ad oggi è in fase di restaurazione è abbastanza visibile ma non eroga acqua al momento. Consiglio la visita e l'approfondimento della sua storia.

Proyectada en el tercer tercio del S XIII por el fraile Bevignate da Cingoli y realizada en mármol de Asis por Nicolo y su hijo Giovanni Pisano en taller y montada en el sitio. Se hizo para celebrar la llegada del agua a la ciudad alta por el acueducto. Consta de dos cuerpos y el remate central que es una copia en bronce del original de Rosso Perugini, de donde brota el agua.

The fountain has sat in the Piazza Novembre in the heart of Perugia since around 1275 and was erected when a new aquaduct was built to provide water to the elevated town of Perugia. They managed to get water , without pumps via a forced pressure duct system to flow up hill. For those that have seen the aquaduct it was quite a feat.The fountain is impressive and sits below the cathedral and cannot be missed when walking through Perugia

E' un'altra delle immagini "iconiche" di Perugia, superbamente collocata nel mezzo della piazza principale della città.
I numerosi elementi, realizzati con pietra di Assisi dai celebri artisti medioevali della famiglia Pisano, sono stati scolpiti in bottega e poi posati in opera in questo spettacolare contesto, andando così a formare due vasche poligonali concentriche, il cui numero di lati è talmente elevato da farle apparire circolari. In cima alla fontana vi è una larga vasca in bronzo con figure femminili, da cui sgorga l'acqua che poi ricade nei due vasconi marmorei inferiori.
L'opera è collocata su un basamento circolare a gradini circondato da un muretto con inferriata perimetrale, per proteggerla dall'inevitabile contatto dei milioni di mani e dagli atti vandalici.

Al centro di piazza IV Novembre si trova questa magnifica fontana che arricchisce e rende ancora più bella l'armonia dell'intera piazza.

This monumental fountain located in Piazza IV Novembre was designed by Frà Bevignate da Cingoli and made from stone from Assisi. It was build between 1275 and 1277 to celebrate the arrival of water in the city.
The lower basin is decorated by tiles that describe the 12 months of the year. Each month is connected to scenes of daily life and the farming work that characterize it.
In the upper basin there are statues representing saints and mythological and biblical characters from the New and Old Testament.
The Fontana Maggiore is a real masterpiece of medieval sculpture.

Auf der Piazza IV.Novembre steht der Brunnen "Fontana Maggiore", einer der schönsten mittelalterlichen Brunnen Italiens aus dem Jahr 1278. Er ist sehr schön und enthält schöne Steinmetzarbeiten.
