Nicole is right, there can be some snow left in the higher parts, and depending on the spring, the ground may be very moist. If you go there for just a day, sneakers may be good enough-depending on distance - but if you plan to go outside the main paths - bring good and waterresistant footwear. Never plan for good weather in Norway. In Oslo, there may be snow in May (quite seldom,but does happen) and there may be days where shorts is the only garment you would like to use.

Hi You may take metro to Sognsvann or Frognerseteren. No bike hire. There is a place for warm meals Ullevålseter , Kikut and more.

Bring winterboots, skis or a sledge. It is wonderful right now. It may be warmer outside, but I bet the snow will be there anyway

Welcome to the Norwegian winter. It depends on where in Oslo you intend to stay. If you have the forest as a destination, it is mostly adapted for cross-country skiing. Unfortunately, it is unpopular that hikers walk in the trails. The rule is: The forest is for everyone, walking stays in the path between the trails. There are 2 pairs of trails, one for each direction, you walk between the trails. However, this is also unpopular for skating skiers. Ignore them. Frognerseteren, Holmenkollen and Tryvann can be a starting point, also for those with a wagon for children.Take the tram from Oslo city center (National Theater or Majorstuen). During clear weather there is a fantastic view over Oslo. Sognsvann and the Norwegian Sports Academy are also an alternative. Good parking facilities, or take the bus from the city center. Hi Andrea, Are you staying in Oslo, you can go to Tryvann (small downhill) for skirentel. Or you can go to Varingskollen (big/steep) downhill in Hakadal. Take the Gjøvik/Brandbu-train from Oslo central to Varingskollen 30-40 minutes, 10 min. to walk from the station to the skiing. Parking is OK too. You can do crosscontry as well at Tryvan and Varingskollen.

yes it's groomed for skate skiing as well. From the Holmenkollbakken (skijump) is the very best. Take underground nr 1 From Olso S to Holmenkollen, 45 min. then short walk. Same nice thing from Sognsvann and the Norwegian Sport Academy (NIH). Go by underground nr. 5 From Oslo S to Sognsvann, 20-25 min. Have fun

Too early for skiing in Nordmarka. No snow yet. Sorry. January and February are normalt best for skiing there. They do have snow from Desember until April.
