Selv om Vikingmuseet nå er stengt pga. stor utvidelse- og rehabilitering, bør dette unike- og lærerike nasjonalhistoriske museet besøkes når alt står ferdig! d:o)

Not the biggest museum, and kind of pricey. It displays a very important part of Norwegian history. Crowded with bus-tourist during the summer months.

This lovely museum is full of wonder and knowledge, giving you access to life-size historical ships and models that bring Viking history to life. Well worth the time and money.

It was a big disappointment to learn that the museum is closed until at least 2025.. We will hope to return when it reopens.
If you want to see a small Viking ship, you can stop at the Maritime Museum opposite Kon Tiki.

Viking ship museum is full of history, among the best in Norway, especially in ships.

Vi reiste hit med barn på 10 år, og både store og små syntes dette var en fantastisk opplevelse. Kombinerte en tur hit med besøk på Fram og Kon Tiki museene.

Sapendo che il museo sarebbe stato chiuso nell’ottobre del 2021 per trasferirsi in una sede più ampia e trasformarsi in un museo della civiltà vichinga che sarà aperto verso il 2025, ho sfruttato una trasferta per trovare il tempo di andare a rivederlo dato che mi era piaciuto tantissimo durante la prima visita una decina di anni fa. Che dire, per gli appassionati di storia è un museo davvero unico con le sue tre navi e il resto dei corredi trovati quando sono state scoperte. Spero proprio di riuscire a rivederlo tra qualche anno nella nuova sede.

How much is the bus from City Hall to Viking Museum? Do I need exact change? Do I buy a return bus ticket at the start? People also said to take a ferry from Dock 3, and we are coming from a Holland America cruise ship----Is that a better way to go to the Museum and return to ship? Thank you.

If the weather is nice, I would recommend the ferry. A one way ticket bought on board costs 60 NOK. If you buy the ticket ahead of time or a roundtrip, you can get a discount.

Outside of Nationaltheatret stasjon, You can take the bus 30 to the Viking museum. This bus can take You to the others museuns too: Norsk Folkemuseum, Norwegian Maritime Museum, Frammuseet and Kon-Tik Museet.

The first ship was shifted there in 1926, and the final building was finished in 1956. As far as I know a new shifting, whch has been planned for many years now have been skipped for good
