Reality : 1 floor exhibition with mainly objects.

The museum is a few small rooms upstairs in a period building. Not sure if it’s actually Jugendstil. The carved stairs leading to the exhibition rooms was a high point…see attached picture and save the overpriced 120 NOK entry fee. The underground walkway which connects the Kube supposedly has more to look at but it’s basically a dingy basement with nothing of interest. The Kube has an entire room full of plexiglass dentures on metal poles. Just trash like the rest of the junk on display. This place is an absolute tourist trap. I gave my tickets to a young couple and told them to save their money.

This museum is dedicated to Art Nouveau, the corrective style that has been used since the early 20th century. ==References====External links== The focus is specifically on the Norwegian variant of the style, which was shaped by the country's landscape and history. Many decorative objects in the exhibition have influences from the Viking era, such as dragon motifs. We did not visit the Kunstmuseum KUBE, which is connected to the Art Nouveau Enteret, due to lack of interest.

In the 60 years these were unfortunately partly demolished and replaced by modern ones. Fortunately, a rethinking process has taken place. Now these are contained and restored. The neighborhood is lovely. After strolling through the neighborhood, we stopped at a restaurant on the pontoon for a soft drink. It was worth it.

We really enjoyed the Jugendstil museum. Lots of interesting pieces to look at, especially the details on the painted ceramics - pretty amazing! We also visited the art museum, which did not have as much to see - but what was there, was quite interesting. Worth a visit

We found the museum on Google and it was a fascinating discovery. A really good introduction to the Art Nouveau backstory of Alesund and the city fire that engulfed the town in 1904. The time machine feature was unique and especially enjoyed by us! Worth the small entry fee.😊

Ideal to start your visit to Ålesund with a visit to the Youth Museum. Nice background for city walks, great interiors and many beautiful objects exhibited.

This lovely little museum and gallery has lots of potential but much of it is untapped because of poor signage to deal with the difficult layout, and failure to explain exhibits well. The narrative is so small it is difficult to read, and placed so low you need good knees. Staff tell you the museum/gallery has two parts, but it seems to have three, the largest being to do with what Art Nouveau is and how it was interpreted in Ålesund and Norway, which was very good. The part about the fire is not accessible for several reasons. One is that it is a tiny, claustrophobic room with screens and a voiceover (there are no other exhibits about the fire). Another is that if you are a solo traveller who cannot understand German you are out of luck because of Jugentstilsenteret's "fairness" policy and Ålesund's constant flow of vast cruise ships and many German visitors. In theory an English or Norwegian voiceover for the fire exhibit is possible: in practice neither of those options are available. The Kube exhibition had some interesting parts.

You enter the Jugendstilsenteret through an old pharmacy which is in itself worth to see.
Lots of information about the period in Norwegian and English. A must if you like this epoch.
There is a cafe, museum shop, lockers (with a difficult code system :-O I managed to lock a locker with the door still open *ahhh*).
The two museums are linked with a tunnel at the basement so you don't have to step out into the rain.
KUBE is all modern art. I like the exhibition with dental teeth molds which "chattered" together in changing speed and volume. Really groovy.
One star deduction for failing to provide senior tickets and the complicated locker system.

This old pharmacy, now one of the main town museums, is a must see. It chronicles the great fire which destroyed the town in 1904 and its subsequent rebuilding making it one of the most influential Art Nouveau towns. It currently houses an outstanding display of enamel ware and Norwegian artists from the nouveau period. It really is a must see to get an idea of how Alesund has grew and developed it's highly decorated buildings - always look up when you walk around town!
