Parked in a disabled bay. Which I am didn't realise my disabled badge had ran out. I've got really bad memorie problems then I get a letter saying I'm going to get fined now another one saying because I didn't pay the fine I owe £500.

The Metrocentre is great in itself, me and my husband always enjoy a day out here visiting the Be More Geek shop and all the other nerd/geek stores. The reason for three stars is because there is a distinct lack of variety, it's such a shame that there are hardly any little local retailers like there used to be back in the day, it's mostly expensive clothes shops these days. It's the same with the food court, it's all just repeats of the same thing, it would be nice to see some local independent restaurants instead of all the usual chains. Also, the toilets in the upper green mall today were absolutely disgusting, this was around 4:15pm, they honestly looked like they hadn't been cleaned all day, they were scruffy dirty and stunk to the high heavens! I felt sick and dirty once I'd used them, my husband commented that the gent's toilets were just as bad. They need to be closed off for a deep clean with bleach!

Be very careful when parking at merto centre gateshead. It boasts free parking with no restrictions however my husband is now being harassed by a car parking company apparently for parking in 2018 in the 'free' car parks. Have no idea what 'rule' he has allegedly broken. My husband is disabled too. Metro centre should be ashamed of themselves!!

the metro centre is not a very great to visit these days just clothing and food brands not completely kill the feel of the metro centre back in its glory it has a theme park inside of the metro centre called metro lands the place looked amazing with lots of nature themes around it and wells to drop money but now the metro has completely died its really boring to come here now rather go to Eldon square in Newcastle

As the title suggests, where are the shops? Every other unit was empty. The centre was baron and seemed stuck in the early 80’s, some serious updating is needed here!

Maybe reduce the rates and there will be a lot more retailers wanting to be there.
And individual retailers stay open later.
Went tonight after work. Headed to The Range first as I knew that the main mall stayed open longer.
Headed into the mall just after 5pm. Visited a couple of shops and then headed towards the red and greem mall. Really disappointed to find a lot of shops closed for 6pm. I understand why online retailers will outdo physical stores.
Infact the carpark was really empty too.
The only places which seemed busy-ish was McDonalds and the slot machines.
A lot of the retailers who've either had to close or have left here in their wake have left empty premises which still aren't being filled and the amount of empty units is increasing.
To bring more retailers into here instead of it remaining empty would it not make more sense to reduce rates.
I remember years ago shopping here when Asda was still in there and next to it was a small butchers, furniture retailers, barrows were full all through the mall area, there was the small walled areas with fountains / water. There was a lot more life and hype in it then ... than what there is now. No hurry to rush back at all

The Metro Centre is possibly one of the largest shopping centres in the UK. I visited by train and there were a couple of trains an hour to Newcastle, Hexham, Carlisle and Middlesbrough.
There are also car parks and a large bus station too.
The is a HUGE variety of shops and I would challenge you not to leave without having bought something.
The centre is well laid out and the branches have different colours which helps to orientate yourself.
Highly recommended if you are in the area.

For such a huge shopping mall there's very little on the ground signposting. Unless I actively searched the signs above me it was hard to know where you were going. Not good when you're in a strange place and get anxious. Same shops you get everywhere but I like shopping centres especially when it's raining. Like many has a lot of empty shops after lockdown so will be interesting to see how/if they bounce back but you can say that about all the malls.
Good extras like the climbing section for those with families.

First visit in about six or seven years and was really quite disappointed. Many empty units, including one mall almost empty. Still clean and tidy but little oomph about the place. Shame really.

how do I get here from Sunderland by Metro? will I be able to easily connect here if I alight at Newcastle Central Station?

From Sunderland's main city station you don't need to use the metro, you can get direct to the Metro Centres own dedicated Station by Northern services any of the trains to Hexham or to Carlisle stop there, However if you are not able to get to the Main Station in the City Center, you can get the metro to Newcastle Central station and then Change to a main line rail service to the Metro Center
