Not been for a while, but worth a visit if you're nearby. From memory, its got egyptian things & a stuffed Panda (which i believe has now been re-coloured, the poor chap had faded over the years).

First went there 60 years ago as a schoolboy.Has not changed much and that is marvellous.

Brilliant, such lovely and very helpful staff (June and Julie) small museum but if you take your time reading about everything you can be there about 45 minutes. Great to have a look round before going onto the park and cafè situated right next to the museum.

a select but superb collection of artifacts brought home from Egypt by an early Maxonian Victorian traveller. It was fascinating to see how her interests chimed with those of other distinguished Egyptologists at the time. It was interesting too to see the paintings of a distinguished local artist of the 20th century whose work one seldom sees elsewhere.

I recall the museum from when I was a child, having been back recently not a lot has changed ( well a few things have been up dated).

Just a small review of this tiny museum...It's in a corner of lovely West Park - looks like a long way from the centre of Macclesfield but its only a short walk over the very busy Cumberland Street and after you pass the big Sainsburys it is well signposted.
Built for Marianne Brocklehurst of the famous Silk merchant family - she travelled widely in Egypt & the Middle East and brought back many artefacts - the star of the show in this one room museum! Also on display pics by Macc Art School graduate - Wildlife artist (& Ladybird book illustrator) C.F Tunnicliffe.
A couple a great un-PC exhibits - a stuffed Giant Panda & a scolds bridel - a metal gag to silence nagging wives! A bit of essential police kit pre-1830...

So have a lot of the exhibits, unlike many community museums it hasn't moved on as much as it should have. It's worth a look if you haven't been for a long while

I have been to west park so many times when i was at school i was learning about the Egyptians i learnt loads it was quite funny when i first saw the mummy i ran out and came back after a week lol although it was not real and i just wanted to hug that massive play bear
