Jolie cathédrale avec tableaux et bustes. Le cloître du 12 eme siècle est aussi à voir. La vue sur la mer depuis ce promontoire est magnifique

Visita tanto desiderata a questa cattedrale XII secolo: è una costruzione normanna, che ho apprezzato molto per l'aspetto maestoso della facciata. Della costruzione originaria si può notare ben poco perché come ho letto su una guida turistica, dovette essere rifatta nell'Ottocento dopo un terremoto. Essa è dicata a San Bartolomeo, patrono delle Eolie e della mia città natale, Benevento, dove il santo ha il suo principale santuario.
All' interno ho trovato pregevoli la statua in argento di S. Bartolomeo ed una tavola del Seicento su cui è raffigurata la Madonna del Rosario. Nelle volte a crociera della navata principale vi sono affreschi di episodi biblici;nelle navate laterali si possono ammirare busti lignei, pale d'altare e dipinti davvero incantevoli.

La cattedrale è imponente e merita di esser visitata per acceder un ampia scalinata che è affascinante. Unico neo la Cattedrale quando l'ho visitata essendo all'imbrunire merita quale luminaria in più.

The cathedral sits atop the (nearly) highest point on Lipari and was the first thing we saw as Seaborn Quest made its approach by way of the sea. The bell tower is the most prominent structure in this old walled citadel.
When visiting with our guide, we came to learn that this is a circa 1600's structure and, although temples or buildings would have stood here since the ancient Greek ages, the Arabs (first) and then the Ottomans destroyed them completely. This present iteration was safely erected when the threat of invasion was minimal.
The interior is quite beautiful: pure white columns reach up to a vaulted (barrel) ceiling painted with biblical scenes (the one with the golden calf was very interesting). Elegant crystal chandeliers line the aisles and the pulpit ceiling is a pattern of blue and pale gold/yellow which is accented by the color added at the top of the columns.
Stained glass windows would also look to be originals, given their subject matter and execution. This is truly a beauty but, for us, the story on the doors was most interesting as it reflects what happened in the 1590's and also shows the citadel as it would have looked then.
The story is, Lipari was hit very hard by famine after severe weather conditions in the 1590's devastated their crops. The excessive rain and extreme cold was unrelenting and their very poor crop yield suffered wheat rust. But, a miracle (attributed to their patron saint, Bartholomew) arrived at their shore. A ship loaded with grain delivered them from starvation.
Saint Bartholomew and angels, with sacks of grain aboard, are depicted in the doors. The inscription in Latin loosely translated reads: God and S. Bartholomew relieved the famine of the city with a miraculous miracle and another inscription reads (more or less): What gift is that which thou hast applied, oh glorious apostle.
There is a huge flight of stairs leading from in front of the church going down to the lower city. This is an imposing and important structure with a story 600 years old to be told.

Notevole la posizione, l'imponenza e, soprattutto il chiostro normanno. A fianco del Museo Archeologico, vi si può accedere da un'imponente scalinata oppure dalla piazza a fianco del Castello

Vedendola dal basso, alla fine dell'ampia scalinata, viene il dubbio se salire o no. Ma quando si arriva in cima (sono poi pochi minuti) si è ripagati dalla vista panoramica e dalla visita a tutto ciò sta sull'acropoli ed alla cattedrale, non dimenticando lo splendido chiostro.

Siamo stati in questa cattedrale a settembre. Lipari e’ davvero molto bella, e offre tante cose da vedere…siamo rimasti colpiti dagli arancini alla eoliana fatti poco più giù della cattedrale e da negozietti di artisti come “lustru i’ luna” davvero belli. Che dire la cattedrale merita una visita assolutamente. Suggestivo il posto, ma davvero mal tenuto. Magari considerando anche i turisti sarebbe opportuno dare una ripulita in più dalle erbacce che ricoprono la maggior parte dei reati storici, non consentendone una visione assoluta e completa. Chissà che non arrivi anche qui L inglese di turno che salvi le nostre bellezze italiane!!

cattedrale con vari rimaneggiamenti di stili, all' interno decorazioni tipicamente barocche, interessante la storia del patrono raccontataci dalla guida, comunque niente di eclatante

A prescindere che a Lipari tutto è mozzafiato, la lunga scalinata ripida che porta alla Cattedrale è faticosa ma ne vale la pena; sia all'interno che di fuori tutto è da ammirare, il dietro poi della chiesa è sublime, un panorama unico e tipico solo della Sicilia con quei profumi e colori che ti inondano.
