We have been several times, with our son, in Val Badia.
For us it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful valleys, where you can go hiking, sports and enjoy excellent cuisine.

We chose Corvara as a base for a trip and also enjoyed Alta Badia after many years and for the first time in summer. Beautiful Ladin valley closed between the mountains, dominated by Sassongher and those surrounding the Gardena pass that we traveled to get there. Obviously much more tourist than a few decades ago but still very pleasant.

I go skiing every year in Alta Badia, and I consider it one of the best ski resorts in Italy, indeed, in the world.
It's my childhood.
I learned to ski right there.
I became passionate about Ladin culture, and its history.

The attribution of the grade and the title must be sought in the repeated meetings with the operators of the Alta Badia ski lifts this summer.
On Monday I bought 2 tickets with the formula 3 out of 4 at the total price of 136 € specifying that there I will use on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The operator (either because he does not understand or because he does not give a damn) issues two tickets valid from Monday to Thursday. I foolishly do not notice I pay and start using them from Wednesday. Spend Thursday as requested where I used them without problems and we get to Friday. I show up at the lift but the ticket is refused as it is no longer valid. At my complaints the operator after a few phone calls tells me to buy two new rides and then send an email to ask for a refund (!).
This is only the first of the pearls encountered in Alta Badia.
Another critical situation we found on a path of Monte Alto. A father with his son, a 10-11 year old boy, were in great difficulty on this path indicated, again by the lift operators, as easy when in reality it was a path for experienced athletes with extreme slopes, roots and slippery steps and we helped them out.
For the last story of the directions received from a cashier in Corvara where he advised against the formula 3 days out of 4 at the price of 68 € as the daily at 45 € was cheaper. Maybe he didn't understand what he was talking about.
That said, dear Alta Badia, to never again.
I wanted to change valley and go from Valgardena, where I have been spending my holidays for 12 years, to Alta Badia thinking that I would be fine, but evidently I was wrong. Here it seems that the operators enjoy putting tourists in trouble.
In Valgardena seriousness is another thing

Comparing the bigger and more famous siblings Val Gardena and Val Di Fassa this center is worst from all mentioned. There's a lot of short blue ski slopes and not much more. Ski lifts seems not modernized for quite some time.

Every now and then we happen to momentarily "abandon" the wonderful Val Fiorentina, where we have spent our holidays for years, and go beyond the Campolongo Pass for some excursions in the Ladin Alta Badia, among vast, far-reaching scenarios that are impossible to forget and in which the Sella group and the Sassongher dominate. Generally we look for the less frequented paths, but this is not easy in these parts, given that many of them are quite crowded with tourists, hikers and, unfortunately, a growing number of often reckless cyclists (which is why I lowered the score).

Poor Alta Badia... after 15 years I found you... plundered, exploited, a slave to money. I no longer recognize every wonderful corner, the beautiful people remain... only richer economically. The rest is dedicated to the crazy spending of the rich Europeans who have named you the land of winter toys! Oysters and champagne....I can't imagine anything sadder 💔...only St. Moritz did worse...but at least the...wealth remains.

My wife and I returned to this valley after years. Always beautiful but I can't understand the reason for the price increase which doesn't exist in other valleys. In many restaurants the tradition of Ladin cuisine is being lost and gourmet cuisine is advancing. It is a shame that the South Tyrolean and Ladin culture and culinary tradition is being betrayed. And if you want to make gourmet cuisine you must comply with certain presentation conditions. For example... if I choose a Florentine or Chianina or other type of rib, first bring it to the table to see and say how much it weighs or if I order a glass of Lagrein or Chardonnay come to the table with the glass and the bottle of wine. Unfortunately none of this, not to mention the prices......I'll share with you only one voice.....a quarter of Lagrein wine only 9 euros and 40 cents......Apart from all this you can have fun doing some beautiful excursions.

From our base at St Vigilo (Kronplatz) it takes about 75 mins to get to the top of this ski resort. Our ski bus and ski pass covered this area. (Two gondolas from St Vigilo, a 25 min bus ride from Puculin to Sponata and then a couple of chair lifts and a gondola). It’s worth the journey because the Dolomites provide a stunning backdrop and there are numerous blue and red runs. There are plenty of charming mountain huts for refreshments. This resort is also the gateway to Sella Ronda circuit - but you will need to get the first bus Puculin to get to the start of the Sella Ronda, do the circuit and get back to Sponata in time for the last bus).
