A museum well worth visiting if you are into fossils, small but has some really impressive pieces, all local, very well preserved, some of them huge. Amazing.
The dino park for kids outside is quite small.

Ich habe meine Kindheit in der Nachbargemeinde verbracht und war seit Jahrzehnten nicht mehr hier. Es ist immer noch eine Reise wert und die Führung (jeden ersten Sonntag im Monat) war toll, weil der promovierte Biologe einfach umfassend Ahnung hatte.

bellissimo , per un paleontologo è un paradiso , pezzi unici stupefacenti per accuratezza della preparazione , ma anche per il reperto in sè come dimensioni ed unicità una troco gigantesco con crinoidi , e la ittiosaura morta di parto con i piccoli viciono , per non parlare degli altri pezzi " minori" molto bello l'ho gia vistodiverse volte ma l'emozione è sempre uguale.

The Hauff museum is smaller than a lot of Natural History museums but has a big difference. And that is that every fossil in it is an original, and comes from the local area. So the Ichthyosaurs and Plesiosaurs on display are not casts or copies from other museums. The stepped 5m deep by 16m long 'walk through' of the various stages of the Posidonia shale is fascinating, especially if you want to go to the local quarry and look for yourself.
The highlight of the museum for me, because of the detail involved and the amount of preparation it must have taken, is the 18m long by 6m wide sea-lily colony, based on a 12m long long in its centre.
If you like fossils rather than the standard 'dinosaur' type museum this is really worth a visit. I will be going back on my next fossil hunting trip around Holzmaden.

Ein tolles Museum mit beeindruckenden Fossilien. Attraktives Ausflugziel für Familien und alle, die sich für die Jurazeit vor 180. Mio. Jahren interessieren. In Kombination mit dem Schieferbruch in Ohmden ein lohnender Tagesausflug.

Spectacular exhibits. We were able to talk to the current owner who was very informative about the collection. He also showed us fossils for sale which were amazing. The size of some of the fossils was incredible.

The exhibits showed life from 180 million years ago from the lower Jurassic period. The time and effort to restore the exhibits is a credit to all involved.
A big disappointment no exhibits had information in English. This could certainly increase visitor numbers. There are some very good guides in reception for €3 in a number of languages including English. But this did not help with individual exhibits. With numbered exhibits and a cheap guide this would be a lot more interesting.

Après avoir visité le musée d'histoire naturelle de Stuttgart nous avons forcément trouvé celui de Holzmaden moins bien....Mais si vous êtes de passage dans la région et que vous aimez les fossiles, un petit arrêt s'impose!

Wir waren mit dem Enkel dort, er konnte vieles lernen aber auch wir hatten Spass, hinterher sind wir in den Steinbruch Kromer, weil uns der empfohlen wurde. Extra abgeraten wurde uns vom Steinbruch gegenüber des Museums
