We stumbled across this church while visiting the Bamberg Altstadt and decided to take a look inside. We were glad that we did. As we entered, we immediately noticed how much colder it was inside compared to outdoors. The stone construction must provide great natural insulation. Once we started looking around, we found the interior to be unexpectedly artistic and beautiful.
There are many amazing altars combining rose colored marble and golden ornamentation. These altars are all created using a similar motif and stand out beautifully within the white interior of the church.
I recommend taking a stroll from the Altstadt toward the shopping district of Bamberg and dropping in for a quick visit to this historic building!

Very beautiful and elegant in the classic style of the Jesuit churches. White hell with the dome frescoed with a sense of depth. It is also worth a visit for its location on the pedestrian and commercial street of the new city

The Catholic Church of St. Martin is a beautiful and worth seeing baroque church in the city center of Bamberg on the Green Market. Admission is free and it is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

I saw this church from the street from the ObstMarkt several years ago on my first visit to Bamberg. I read up on the church in the intervening time and decided to visit the interior on this "art and architecture" tour of Germany, Belgium, and Austria. Very pleased that I did so. The interior isn't overwhelming, but is tastefully beautiful with lots of pink/rose colored marble in the structure. This is an excellent "add-on" during any visit to the Altstadt.

Just when you contemplating a shopping moment in Galeria Karstadt at the Grüner Markt, your eye is caught by a church facade a short distance away. This turns out to be the St. Martin's Church, a 17th century Catholic church, which turns out to have an impressive, richly decorated interior, worth visiting. Not so stunning and mysterious as Bamberg Cathedral, but surely a robust four point rating.

The Bamberg Jesuit church is a nice temple in baroque style located in the core of the city. It was built under the Dietzenhofer brothers' design on the same site where a Carmelite monastery stood. The construction process took place in the last quarter of the seventeenth century, after demolition of the former Carmelite monastery, wrecking which could, in principle, be deemed rather regretful. The church is dedicated to St. Martin and, as a matter of fact, it's the only one built in baroque style in Bamberg.
The main façade is quite interesting though not too spectacular. It's divided into two clearly differentiated main bodies. In that of the lower part, the semicircular arch main entrance is flanked by four white statues, two on each side, located one above the other in their corresponding niches, respectively representing Christ, the Virgin, St. Ignacio and St. Francis Xavier. The same scheme is reproduced in the upper part, the statues in that case representing St. Anne, St. Sebastian, St. Ottilia and St. Lorenz. The niches are framed by pilasters topped by their respective capitals, those in the lower part being in doric order while those in the upper part are in ionic order. There are two side entrances, one on each side of the main one, and over those entrances there are four balconies, two on each side one above the other at the lower and the upper parts, respectively. The church has two plain tympana, one on the top of each of its parts, that on the lower part being semicircular shaped while the other is triangular. A balustrade finds itself between the saints statues on the upper part, and above that balustrade there is an eye catching clock with a black face and gilded hands and figures. That façade constitutes therefore a harmonious whole on account of the proportions, arrangement and unity of style. It's worth contemplating it for a while.
The temple was originally intended as the university church and the church of the Jesuit College. It's a single nave church whose inside is an example of fantastic baroque style. It's pervaded with a cheerful atmosphere particularly owing to the brightness and the light colours with which the walls are painted. The high altar is marvellous. It contrasts with the largely white walls. It's the typical baroque altar consisting of pink marble pilasters and columns with gilded capitals, supporting a very elaborate and profusely ornamented structure with decorative motifs, in the middle of which there is a white circle showing on its center the emblem of the Jesuit Order. On both sides of the chancel beautiful white plaster statues of saints though with gilded elements are by the walls, what makes a good impression. Besides there are several side altars. Those located on the chancel corners are very beautiful. One is consecrated to Christ, representing his crucifixion, and the other to the Virgin. Both altars and particularly the latter are very attractive. In them, the respective images are located in the middle of the altar, in a niche. The trompe l'oeil dome interior is by Giovanni Francesco Marchini. It's a stunning pictorial work which is worth seeing as well as the fourteenth century Pietà.
The church concerned is therefore a rather interesting building in Bamberg which should be visited by all sensible people going to the said city. Besides, it offers the possibility to get some relaxation thanks to the peaceful atmosphere reigning inside.

I don't think so, as my tour was in German by the priest who runs the church, but if you come here, they may have something for those who don't understand German.

I would like to know if we can expect what I am reading on these reviews! Dirty walls, no Wi-Fi, no phone, water being turned off without warning, inadequate pots and pans to cook in, and rock-hard beds?
How do I request a refurbished unit if you have not refurbished all of them by now? We are staying mid-April.

This is either a joke or someone has hacked in as we did not write the above review/question.
