The hill was a bit slippery getting up but the views were incredible. You can go up and walk around for free but you have to pay to go up the tower.

Het was een forse klim van de Altstadt naar het slot. Er werd overigens volop gewerkt aan restauratie van het gebouw. We werden beloond met een practig uitzicht oover de stad en de Main

Très sympathique ville découverte lors d'une croisière sur le Danube. Une matinée à pied nous a suffit pour voir l'essentiel : monter au château après être passé par la rue principale et admirés quelques maisons anciennes. Nous avons été jusqu'à la place du marché et pris le petit escalier pour aller au château . il vaut mieux le faire en montant qu'en descendant car les marches sont inclinées vers le bas .et ca peut glisser !!, belle vue puis retour par le haut ou on peut apercevoir des morceaux de remparts et les restes d'un vieux cimetière. Un petit conseil, quittez la rue commerçante Haupstrasse et amusez vous à vous perdre dans les venelles entre le Main et cette rue, c'est typique .

Another overrated attraction in Europe. Long train journey, followed by brief bus trip, then a long walk to the top, with everystep of the way covered in horse manure.
If you did not have tickets for the castle which has never been finished there is another long walk to get above the castle for a photo.
The view down into the valley is glorious. But then you have to walk all the way down again, get another bus and hope you can get a seat on the return train.
Give it a miss, have a look on youtube and enjoy a nice lunch where ever you are staying.

Visitei quando do cruzeiro fluvial pelos rios Meno, Reno e Danúbio. Praças encantadoras, prédios típicos com cores diferentes e castelos de impressionar. Passei um dia inteiro visitando essa cidade. Visitei a fábrica de cerveja artesanal Faust no centro da cidade antiga e degustei vários tipos de cerveja, todas de excelente qualidade. .

We stopped here on a river cruise. It was a lovely walk up to the castle. A little tricky finding where to start going up but just ask someone. It was less of a climb than I expected with some gorgeous views once up there. We walked down a different way thru a lovely forested area with a paved path. The front of the castle is not the nicest and looks fake or painted but it was worth going up for sure. The walk thru town and along the river was also very enjoyable.

Schöne Burg mit schönem Garten, aber die Erbauer würde sich über der sogenannten Museum schämen, totale reinfall. Ihr solltet in (Moderne Galerie ) unebenen , weil das hat mit Museum nichts zutun, und 3€ dafür verlangen ist unverschämt.

On a river cruise and thoroughly enjoy an active walk all around town and up to the castle. Beautiful place, full of good shops, great beer, wonderful cafes, and walk along the ancient walls.

We didn’t go on the castle but the walk up, the view and the forest walks around the castle area are wonderful.

We are going on a Christmas cruise next year which includes mittenberg. No idea how long we will be in port but thinking we might skip the markets and climb to the castle for the views. How long does it take up and back? Can you get a clear pic of the town and river without entering or is the view blocked by trees?? I see some great photos but not sure where they are taken from.

The walk to the castle is up a reasonably steep climb but is worth the effort if you wish to get some of those great photos for yourself. The path up to the castle can be taken via steps and pathway starting on the right hand side of the narrow road or, a bit further on, by a more scenic pathway leading off to ther left of the road.
We went up on the scenic pathway and down on the other. Depending on your pace it will take about a half hour to the castle. FYI, we didn't go into the castle as I don't think there is much to see in there, but the best views looking up and down the Main River and over the Town are from the lookout located outside the castle.
Miltemberg is a beautiful town and I would also make time to stroll through it.
