Truly awe inspiring! So many beautiful birds! Peaceful and beautiful surroundings. The slide show could have been shorter but was very informative.

My wife and two sisters-in-law saw this place in November, 2021, because we saw it on Google Maps and got curious to book a reservation. What a treat! We had an exceptional day with the Ferguson couple learning about hummingbirds as HUNDREDS of the birds darted, tucked, rolled, swirled, and hovered around us with some 20 to 25 feeders all seeing non-stop action. There were 15 species present and accounted for and it was a riot of iridescent color, all in a manicured yard overlooking Mount Maracas to the north. The full lunch (all homemade) was delightful and we're so glad we went all-in for this three-hour, unforgettable experience.

Yerettê - The Home of the Hummingbird, is encapsulated in an aura of tranquility, peace, joy and healing.
Upon entering the humble abode of Mr. & Mrs. Ferguson. We were greeted with the melodious humming and chirping of the Hummingbirds emanating from the couple's dainty flower garden. The sight was one to marvel at. Never had we seen so many Hummingbirds in the same place at the same time. The astonishing birds proudly displayed themselves in all their glory. They hovered gracefully around us, showing off their agility and speed as the flew past our faces and came close to stare from time to time. We certainly were in much more awe of them than they were of us.
As Dr. Ferguson engaged us, he humbly imparted his vast knowledge about the humming birds and their undeniable importance to the Amerindian people of Trinidad. While my brain soaked in the new knowledge, my eyes were mesmerized by the sight of these exuberant birds.
After a scenic stroll in the enchanting garden, and a light indulgence in a delicious layout of evening tea prepared by Mrs. Ferguson, our evening concluded with a presentation put together by Dr. Ferguson featuring phenomenal photos taken by himself.
It was an enriching experience being at Yerettê. As a Trinidadian residing here, it is awe-inspiring to know that a place like this exists where knowledge can be passed down to us about our own country, that will continue to cultivate our sense of national pride.

You will be far better off visiting Asa Wright Nature Centre. Instead of being able to see and experience being so close to the humming birds you will be subjected to a rambling, long winded lecture littered with dubious facts on the Amerindians. When I visited this lasted for nearly 90 minuted with less than 5 minutes spent on information on humming birds. The cost of the tour was eye watering.

We spent hours with Theo learning not only about the magnificent display of hummingbirds, but of the deep history of Trinidad. Both were an incredible experience. His photography and slide show is icing on the top as was a delightful lunch.

Visited today and left with a feeling of gratefulness and respect for Theo and Gloria. What a way to introduce their visitors to the history of the country and to the magical hummingbird, and the close connexion between the two!
Photographs for sale are a bit too expensive though.

I decided to start my visit to Trinidad & Tobago at Yerette, a sanctuary of sorts hosted by Theo and Gloria Ferguson. Yerette is the name of their personal home and they have decided to share a bit of nature with the public. I attended the mid-day lunch visit and I had 3 other people also on my tour. We had rain showers but were well protected on the covered patio and the hummingbirds just seemed to frolic more in the downpour. Lunch (the light version) consisted of a delicious soup and a small salad, prepared by Gloria, and possibly some helpers. Theo gives a brief intro to the history of the islands and shares some of the indigenous names. He also gives a slide show at the end identifying the hummingbird you may have seen on the visit. I am not sure if it would have been more helpful at the beginning, but I enjoyed it, and his photographs are stunning. Be sure to follow Theo's directions carefully. Also be sure to give the giant Silk Cotton or Kapok Tree a big hug on the way down the hill.

I do not review anywhere whatsoever with the exception if such a place deserves nothing short but excellent and visiting Yerette fits such. From start to finish of your experience at Yerette is extremely fulfilling. Theo has a bottomless pit of knowledge when coming to the hummingbirds and after he is through with you, your overall outlook towards these unique birds will be fulfilling. Apart from listening to Theo sharing his knowledge whilst admiring the birds hovering all around you, he has a lovely slideshow displaying the different varieties of these birds in Trinidad and Tobago. His wife Gloria oversees a lovely assortment of hors d’ouvres and soft beverages that compliments the occasion. Truly the place to experience whilst in Trinidad.

Many hummingbird species
are all on display at this home garden. Including one of the tiniest of an already tiny bird. The photos on display are spectacular. The slide show is amazing. The talk by Dr. Theo and how he laces together the history of Trinidad, the Caribbean, the culture and everything else, with the hummingbirds was amazing.
It may not be something for small children who would get restless during the talk. Highly recommended for a morning or afternoon out. It’s a bit of a hilly winding drive and ending with narrow roads to get there. But the views are worth it.

How steps the route. I am unaccustomed to driving on steep roads as the other members of the party. What would you recommend. can I park at the bottom of the hill and walk up.

If you aren't accustomed to steep driving, I would suggest you don't take your car as it is very steep and even good drivers would find going up a little difficult. Parking down and walk is a good idea if you have good stamina as it is not very fast. Also note that there is very limited parking in the place

what is the best way to get to Yerette from the cruise ship terminal?
Wendell G
Tacarigua, Saint George, Trinidad and Tobago14 đóng góp
At the Cruise Ship complex, there are taxis there you can hire who know where to go. But if the Ship offers the tour, take it. The thing is, you have to book at least 24hrs. before.. Therefore, when booking tours on ship, if not offered, ask to book it. It can be booked through the agent in Trinidad.
