When we went in May, the place was full and reservation was resuired. Maybe to be on the safe side, book a timeslot. You can call them, they are very friendly.

Hi - we visited Tribaut last September, and I would say it is a bit of both. It is a small(ish) family run concern, with their champagne mostly going to local restaurants. As such there is no "tour" , but they will explain the differences between their champagnes, what grapes they use in each, etc. Personally I thought their wines were very good and very reasonably priced (for tastings and bottles). They also (weather permitting) have tables and chairs outside with fantastic views over vineyards. If you want a more technical "how is champagne made, stored, etc". then I would suggest doing the tour at Moet and Chandon and/or Mercier, down the road in Epernay - both good. Both Hautvilliers and Epernay definitely worth a visit, Hautviliers picturesque little village, Epernay a larger town with loads of champagne houses (no appointment required), and good restaurants, etc.
