This is a faithful recreation of the hut that still exists in Antarctica to this day. Very informative and great value for money. The staff are passionate and keen to share their knowledge and there is a huge wealth of information throughout the displays. If you are interested in exploration from a bygone era this attraction is a must visit.

Well worth visiting. This replica hut has a lot of interesting information about Mawson’s expeditions, as well as artefacts from the original hut. Tun by volunteers as a means of preserving the original hut, this replica is a nod to the Antarctic explorers.
Make sure you bring your reading glasses - the story is mostly told through textual passages.

The replica huts of the Australian Antarctic Expedition wonderfully recreate the living conditions of the brave adventurers who signed up . The displays were interesting and informative , although some were poignant, relating the fates of 2 members of the expedition on the ice and the sad ends of the sledge dogs. The volunteers who staff the premises were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

The visit to Mawson’s Hut completed our schedule of places to visit associated with Antarctica. The museum has a first class range of artifacts and provides a real insight into the early exploration of Antarctica!

We visited the Mawsons replica hut on Monday 23 Sept, arriving late in the day around 4:30pm. Another couple had just arrived and one of the team members was finishing up, leaving one person to look after us until closing.
This was a memorable experience, and I recommend it to anyone who visits Hobart and in particular has an interest in explorer history, the outdoors and the environment. The resources onsite are excellent, with ample information about the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, the Antarctic environment, the established hut and life at and around the hut. What impressed me most of all was the information and insight given by the assistant. She would be providing information to the other couple, who were in a different part of the hut, and while I was talking to my wife, she would jump in and add answer our questions, some before we asked them, in an almost omnipresent manner.
Once we were all in the living quarters of the hut, she then took us through the arrangements, the equipment and living conditions. There was no question she couldn’t answer. Through this combination of pictures, printed words, audio and then Q&A, I felt made this an experience not to be missed. And to think the Hobart City Council was considering knocking down this gem in 2019 (Mawson’s Huts Foundation says it remains in limbo about the future of its Hobart museum - realestate.com.au)
Keep up the amazing work! That young lady who looked after us earned a few of her stripes that day. We really appreciated the knowledge, energy and passion and I will be making a donation to the cause.

We had a great visit. Fascinating story of Mawson’s expedition. The exhibition is small but informative. Definitely worth a visit if you’ve an hour to spare.

Incredible! It’s quite a small museum but full of fantastic information. Thank you to the volunteers who are full of knowledge regarding Mawson’s Antartica expeditions. A fantastic display and lots to read and short film clips.

Reading the descriptions and watching the film and photos makes you wonder at these men. That they would undertake such journeys of exploration and survive. A small museum but packed with information.

The replica is well done but the area where you read about the expedition can get quite crowded and you feel a bit rushed trying to read everything. I certainly learned something and there are volunteers happy to provide additional information

Just wondering if the food court/cafe food sticks to theme of the museum and serves food such as stewed penguin, seal jerky, husky and other dietary dishes enjoyed by the early Antarctic colonisers? I tend to boycott museums where the food court does not match the exhibit.

No food outlet at the museum, but an excellent choice of food outlets in the streets nearby!

Ticket prices
Adult - $12, Concession $10,
Child 16yrs $4, Family $28.
The website can be found on Google but I'm unable to enter it in this app??
Time spent looking at the attraction should be dependant on on your interest in history. Upon entering I was a bit hesitant at what to look at but the trustees will put you right at ease with magnificent stories of historic and personal nature as that have been to the South Pole themselves. The enthusiasm was infectious. Personally I gave it three hours.
