Visited with family recently for the xmas trail.
Thought the trail was fab, lots of amazing displays along the route.
It could be slightly longer but that's a minor gripe.

We visited a few weeks back and decided we’d revisit to see the Christmas lights.
Ticket availability is very limited, understandably. But found a slot which suited with availability. Except there wasn’t. When I clicked to add 2 tickets suddenly there weren’t any. Finally found a slot which had tickets available but when I went to check out, got a message saying access denied.
I sent in a query with the ticket agent but this hasn’t been answered.
We’ll go elsewhere but it’s a shame as we were looking forward to visiting.

We’ve been going to the Christmas light display for 5/6 years. It’s been a highlight of Christmas for us and in previous years the show has been fabulous, however, this year was not a patch on usual.
This show is usually £22/24pp so very expensive for a family however we’ve always been happy to pay this in the past for such a great show. Unfortunately this year, the show wasn’t worth half of that.
Stourhead used to have the trail beginning at the house and ending at the lake where there was usually a lovely finale to the lights. Last year they switched it around and I was hoping they’d realise it was a mistake and switch back this year, however once again it began at the lake where the most impressive of the light displays start the trail. It promised a great start to it but things then just went downhill.
The second display was lacklustre, this was the usually impressive display over the lake. It was mediocre at best. What followed was just a half hearted attempt at lighting displays (bar one or maybe two interesting ones). Last year we had an amazing fairy style white decoration by some trees that was truly spectacular. This year it was replaced with (I kid you not) some fairy lights wrapped around tree trunks. So unimaginative and whereas in previous years we’d stop to take it all in, we just walked straight past.
To be honest the remainder of the displays looked like someone had halved the budget. It all lacked the usual imagination and grandeur. In previous years we’ve seen amazing fire light displays by the house which were expansive. This year the display was about a quarter of the usual lighting and not impressive at all.
I see that Stourhead are not close to sold out and last night we almost had the place to ourselves there were so few visitors. I’ve not seen the place like that since Covid. I think after last years poorer than usual performance and this years very poor one, along with the price of tickets they’ll struggle next year. We certainly won’t be going again and I’m so disappointed (the whole family felt the same way).
I’m sure that there will be people who enjoyed it but when you’ve come to expect a fabulous show and then see this years effort, you can’t fail to notice the big drop in quality.
I did feed back to a member of staff at the end of the show but got a very patronising response and so gave up.

It was our first time at the Stourhead Christmas Lights this week, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There were plenty of people in hi-viz jackets guiding everyone in the car park. Short walk to the food and drink area where we had a hog roast roll. It was absolutely delicious but very expensive (£10 each). Walking round the trail looking at the amazing lights was great. I was suffering with Sciatica and a gentleman / staff member asked me if I would like to use their mobility scooter to help me up the steep hill...which I did. What a great help this was and thank you to that gentleman! Lovely marshmallows to toast at the top of the hill, very happy and welcoming man who served us. The lights were spectacular and what a lovely touch to have staff offering to take a photograph of us both in front of the lights! We stopped in the food area on the way out and bought two hot chocolates and one cone of churros which came to just over £19.00!!!!!!
All in all, an excellent and very well organised event. But the food area was very expensive.

My cousin highly recommended this beautiful Country House and Gardens - they look fantastic I would imagine all year but the staff and volunteers have made it extra special at Christmas- I’ve never seen decorations like them .. every room is different and the library most of all . The pub on site does super food too! Try to make time to go now for this extra special Christmas experience.

Went to the Christmas lights. We went two years ago for first time and lights were amazing. The route around was good to.This year they took us around opposite direction which was not so good;We are used to walking uphill but others struggled. Some of the lights were spectacular but some areas weren’t that great.I would say that this year lights not so good.We had a hog roll at start which was yummy but abit expensive and a hot chocolate enroute.

Beautiful festive lightshow, will be back in summer to explore the grounds! Staff wonderful and friendly.
Do wear walking shoes, this is a steep path, with uphiill sections the drains aren't marked or lit in the dark so stay away from the edges.
Plenty of food places to suit most tastes, big shout out to the Greek street food, and the Bar selling o so welcoming hot mulled cider.
Glad, I don't have kids, I'm happy to pay the £15 a head for a quieter time slot, I think when you start adding up the prices for peak, carpark fees, food, drink with kids the sweet things on top...it starts to become expensive.
Stourhead/NT: please drop the carpark charges.

Whilst the trail is beautiful it really is not accessible to people in manual wheelchairs. They do have power chairs to rent i believe but my son doesn't have the mental capacity to operate one of these unfortunately so i had to push him around which wasn't easy to say the least.
The Drainage gulley dips were also hard to push the chair over on an already steep hill. Plus add to that people stood in the middle of the path taking pictures, we had to keep stopping and getting going again on an incline is really hard. We did say excuse me so we could get passed but were ignored on a few occasions.
My son who is 9 did enjoy the lights and the music along the trail but unfortunately I will not be able to bring him back, its far too hard to push him up the hill and when you have to stop where its busy with people on the path its actually quite scary/dangerous when the weight of the wheelchair fights to slip back down the hill.

Having been for the last few years, I felt a bit disappointed by this year's lights. There were large sections that are normally smothered with lights that had nothing on them. I think it also works better to end up at the lake rather than start there.

Cost £24 a ticket (each transaction carries a £2.50 handling charge also!) booked 5 tickets....
Walked round within half an hour or so, hardly any lights, literally about 12 displays in total, complete rip off for almost £25pp.

Has anyone who doesn’t have a car visited recently? How can we get there from Bath? There is no tours available oddly.

You could get a bus to Frome from Bath and hire a taxi. If you drive then hire a car.

I am trying to organise a coach trip to the gardens in June 2020 for about 36 people and am trying to budget. Do we have prices yet for 2020?
Đã viết vào 28 tháng 11, 2019
Their website is showing all 2020 opening times. Prices are listed so you will be able to budget - maybe add a couple of percent just in case there is an increase.
