Lots of horror stories on TripAdvisor about the tickets. We had no problems. The girl explained that you only need to validate tickets bought from the vending machine. If you use the chip and pin machine you don't need to validate it. The yellow validation machines are either side of the gate going through to the funicular. It was easy.
Also, we got there about 10am and it was fairly quiet. We went up to the tower then walked through the park to the monastery and then made our way back down the hill, past the castle and back to Charles bridge. Great day out.

Warning!
We bought 4 tickets to ride up I the funicular train, today, immediately before going through the ticket machines. One of our party’s ticket didn’t register, but we were told to go and get on the train as it didn’t need validating. When we got to the top, 2 guards were waiting to check everyone’s tickets carefully. We thought this odd, as we couldn’t have got through to the train without a ticket. The person in our party whose ticket hadn’t registered was told very rudely that she had to pay a 1000ckr fine! 4 others on the same journey also had to pay. When they explained that they clearly had just bought the ticket and been told to go ahead, the guard threatened them with the police.
Don’t make the same costly mistake!

Beware what a tourist trap this is! We bought our tickets were told that once you had a valid ticket you could board. When we arrived at the top we were met by 2 security guards who told me because my ticket had not been validated at the bottom I had to pay a fine of 1000 ckr. I told them that we had been told to board with the ticket but as I hadn’t put it in the machine it was not valid! They threatened to call the police so we paid the fine. Disgusting. Our friends decided to go to the tower view point. They bought tickets and were then told they needed to buy an extra ticket for the list! Lots of people were confused, conned. So a trip up the tower cost around £32 for 2. Just for a quick look round. Don’t bother!

We had bought tickets, but forgotten to register it before entering the ride. Once getting on top, security gards were waiting to give us a 1000 chcz kr fine each.

This is a great way to get up the mountain to see the Eiffel Tower replica. Not a long wait, and a fairly quick ride. Cost 60czk each way with no discount for a return ticket. We bought a return ticket and then ended up walking back down via the castle. Best to buy a one way - -and a second if you decide to return the same way. We were lucky as it was not too busy or overcrowded

Couldn't wait to ride the funicular as I've not been on one and we hadn't been to Petrin Tower, and it was good and it is a cool and quick way to be transported but you are squeezed in, so limited ability to take photos of the views you'll see and also just relax in general.
There's a strong chance you'll end up standing in the middle, with limited views above and below.

Lo mejor para subir a Petrin. Se nos olvidó una mochila y al regresar nos la estaban guardando, muy amables. Si no lo utilizas, la caminata es tremenda hacia arriba. Puedes bajar andando. Las vistas, muy bonitas.

A great way to reach the summit of Petrin is to take the Funicular Railway ,it's cool ,train is full ,journey quick ,it gives the legs a rest ,be aware that you have to validate your tickets before entering train ,you will be fined ,1000 CKZ ,no arguments ,that's the standard fine ruthlessly enforced ,I've seen so many tourists gripped over the many years I've been visiting this beautiful Bohemian city ,if you purchase a 24,48 or 72 hour pass ,once validated you can use all public transport ,even the Funicular Railway ,if you've researched that the funicular gets you up to the top of Petrin you must have read reviews about tourists being fined ,it's all there on Tripadvisor and several other tourist sites so be aware .

Funicular uses usual public transportation tickets, so if you have got or have seen that there is discount ticket or any free ticket on public transportation, then it will be the same here.

Tickets for the railway are the same as trams, so for a ticket for 30 minutes is 24czk or 32czk for 90 minutes per Adult.

You can get the furnicular up and then walk through the park to the castle. It’s a lovely walk and you get some great views along the way

But trams stop close by. Same transport ticket is used.

Hi, yes you can use the 72 hours ticket, its valid for complete public transport in Prague :-)
